The book of Joshua presents the sensitive reader with a problem; the slaughter of the indigenous Canaanite population in order for Israel to occupy their land. How are we to understand this today, and what lessons can we learn from it in general, and particularly regarding how we understand God and the paranormal? This is a legitimate issue that deserves a reply--but I will only be able to touch on some basics--for fuller reflection one will need to see more in-depth articles. Any similar actions today would rightly be condemned by Christians, but there are special features to Israel's actions which are unique, which means their actions are not to be imitated today. This command to Israel is one reason that the Pentateuch goes into so much detail regarding the singular divine calling of Moses. The commands given and written by Moses originate in God's own mind (Deuteronomy 18:15-20). Without this certainty of Moses as God's spokesman, Israel would have had no right to the land.In fact, in Deuteronomy 18:9-14 God tells us how much He hates occult sins (e.g.psychics/mediums, and attempts to speak to the dead) and this is intentionally juxtaposed to Moses call...showing that the prohibition is trans-cultural and trans-generational in authority. It was these very sins which called forth God's wrath, using Israel as His vessel of judgement.
A second preliminary point is that He sets out laws of warfare which distinguish between battles fought against cities outside the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 20:16-18) and those fought against cities in the Promised Land. Only the latter were required to be devoted to complete destruction (Deuteronomy 20:1-20). With these clarifications, let us now (in mere outline form) show why this command is not an unsovable problem.
1. It is crucial to understand that Yahweh is the Creator and owner of all people and lands. Hence, He has the right to distribute lands according to His good and holy will (Exodus 19:5; Psalm 24:1) He is also (and this is so very important in the ghost debate) the universal Judge, to whom all people everywhere are accountable. This can be seen in the Flood account in Genesis 6-8; the judgement on the Tower of Babel, and all throughout both the Old and New Testament. Thus, God alone has the ultimate rights over the land of Canaan, and bring them into judgement for cosmic treason against His holy character and will.
In addition, as the Creator of life, the Lord has the right to end one's life..or an entire nation.. In fact, God is sovereign over your death, and that moment is in His hands (Psalm 139) God has the right to "kill" anyone at anytime....which we call 'death'.. We are not God, so abortion is not our prerogative. Behold, your God!
2. Since all people are sinners (Romans 3:23), they are subject to God's judgement (6:23). The bible gives a moral rationale for the destruction of the Canaanites. (Deuteronomy 7:1-5) If the Jews did not kill all the Canaaanites, then they would lure them into idolatry. We are told in the New Testament that believers will participate in the final judgement (1 Corinthians 6:2). Likewise, Israel was God's instrument of judgement, expressing to the watching world the holy character of God, and foreshadowing the Day of Judgement (hell) and our participation in the carrying out of the final judgement. To the extent that Israel mirrored God's holiness and justice, the surrounding nations outside the Promised Land were blessed by this holy war. In nations which were drowning in occult darkness, being exposed to the light of truth regarding the True God, was very much a blessing, to those who received it.Behold, your God!
The Amorites and other Canaanites were not "innocent people"....they hated Israel and they were unspeakably depraved.... They were given 400 years to repent, but unlike Ninevah, most did not repent.
Some people have wrongly called this "ethnic cleansing", but there was no double standard. Israel herself experienced God's wrath multiple times--they were blessed if they obeyed but they were cursed by God if they committed spiritual adultery. Ethnic cleansing is occurring today and Christians should be the first to oppose it.
3. The Sinai covenant set up a unique entity--a theocracy--in which church and state were combined.Hence, the distinction between sin and crime was not as it is today (since we are not a theocracy).Sin would pollute God's covenant community. Over and over and over again, the Lord warned the Israelites that they HAD to destroy the Canaanites or they would most certainly be dragged down by them. Sadly, that is precisely what happened. We could call it "the Canaanization of the Jews". The first city they destroyed was Jericho (one of the oldest cities on earth..perhaps the oldest), which was symbolic of the whole land. The city's name has reference to the moon, so they likely were worshippers of the moon...a moon idol behind which were demons.Canaan was teeming with idolatry and ritualistic murder, and as a result it was a stronghold of Satan...teeming with demons.Idolatry, injustice, and evil were everywhere, and this triad is what Yahweh wanted to protect His elect people from, the apple of His eye. As we are told, the Canaanites sin had reached "fullness', making them ripe for judgement. The people had become so corrupt the very land is said to have vomited them out. Behold, your God!
4. The apparent implacability of total slaughter with no exceptions was just that, an appearance. The verbiage is strong, but provision was made for any who were converted to Yahweh (e.g. Rahab) It was not ethnic cleansing that occurred, but rather it was spiritual cleansing.Ethnicity had nothing to do with the Canaanites destruction because, from day one, the Jews were a mixed bunch. They were supposed to be a light to the nations, according to the Abrahamic covenant.
In summary, God's ownership of all land and the One who judges the world with perfect justice, the need to protect the purity of the Israelite theocracy, the depravity of the Canaanites had reached a critical mass, and provisions for even the Canaanites to be saved--all illustrate the justice behind this holy war of annihilation. That was a unique part of Israels mission, and nobody today can follow in their footsteps. Again, it was not ethnic cleansing (Christians should strongly oppose any such actions) but it was spiritual cleansing.
When I watched the Dead Files last Friday, I was alarmed that, once again, Amy put the blame on evil dead kids who were out to kill the living adults. This trio of alleged earthbound children supposedly pushed a woman down the steps (according to this medium), and she is blessed she wasn't killed. Last week she recommended a curandero (sorta like a shaman), and this week (not sure if it was a re-run) she said, "I was going to recommend an exorcism, but you need a chaos magickian." Even many occultists are fearful or least wary of these people. I mention all this as an application of what we have learned. 2 Corinthians 10 tells us that we are to destroy (not the Canaanites) but arguments or ideas contrary to God's holy word. We are in a holy war, not jihad as Muslims practice, but a holy war nevertheless. How can one believe in children being trapped here (and killing people)? It is madness. The cure for such monstrous beliefs is a fresh vision or understanding of God's absolute holiness. Wrestling with the destruction of the Canaanites should make it abundantly clear how holy God is, and how contradictory to God's holiness are the foundational beliefs of the paranormal community.Christians, behold your God!

The Common Thread that Runs through All Paranormal Activity
By Reverend Mark Hunnemann
He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:1-5)
That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. (Mark 1:32-34)
Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. 2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, 3 and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that she might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while. (Revelation 20:1-3)
And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads. 2 And the beast that I saw was like a leopard; its feet were like a bear's, and its mouth was like a lion's mouth. And to it the dragon gave his power and his throne and great authority. 3 One of its heads seemed to have a mortal wound, but its mortal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled as they followed the beast. 4 And they worshiped the dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?”….
11 Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon. 12 It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence,3 and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed. 13 It performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, 14 and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of the beast it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. 15 And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain. 16 Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, 17 so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. 18 This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666. (Revelation 13)
This is a bit repetitious of last week, but some issues are worthy of an extra look. Is there a common thread that runs through all paranormal activity? Or is this activity disjointed, for lack of a better word? I am convinced by Scripture, evident reason, and personal experience that there is a common thread.
The verses above trace the flow of redemptive history, especially as it relates to periods of heightened paranormal (demonic) activity. They reveal the amazing unity and consistency of divine revelation from Genesis to Revelation!
The first recorded paranormal activity is a beast of the field that talked to Adam and Eve. As the narrative progresses the identity and purpose of this entity and its actions become clear very quickly.
I’m not sure what this beast looked like prior to God cursing it, but I’m pretty confident that God had not made any talking critters. Everything is beautiful and perfect, until we come to 3:1 where an ominous or nefarious note is sounded…a crafty critter is speaking to Eve. Certainly this is the first paranormal activity recorded, and it changed the course of cosmic history. (see Romans 8) We know that this talking beast was Satan (identity) and his purpose was the destruction of mankind. Notice how Satan does this by throwing doubt on the veracity of God’s Word…he finally and flatly contradicts God. Suddenly, the fruit on this one tree took on an obsessive nature to Eve. By mimicking (or possessing) part of God’s creation-the beast of the field, the devil brought destruction of cosmic proportions.
From Genesis to Revelation a continuity of identity and purpose of paranormal activity is expressed.
From the first family up until Genesis 12 there is much of human history that is not recorded. However, we know in Genesis 6 there came a heightened paranormal activity—sexual encounters initiated by the demonic.
We know that magick has been on the scene since the dawn of time. Hence, much paranormal activity took place in various depraved cultures lost in the mists of pre-history. However, archaeology has unearthed much evidence of occult activity that goes back many thousands of years.
With Abraham (2,000 BC)….through Moses—who was educated in Egypt, and was aware of all its occultic beliefs/practices….. in all the cultures around, we have records of paranormal activity. Many of these ancient cultures were profoundly aware of the danger of the spirit realm.
When Jesus appeared, there was an unprecedented explosion of paranormal activity. Why? First, the devil wanted to try to destroy Jesus. Second, there is extra-biblical evidence that superstitious beliefs and practices were very widespread at this time. Why were so many people possessed during Jesus time? A careful reading of the gospels reveals that the disciples themselves were gripped by superstition, before Pentecost. Prior to both comings of Jesus there was/will be an explosion of doctrines of demons…beliefs which give legal rights of the demonic to attach, attack, oppress and possess.
I had known that the reason for the violent upsurge in paranormal activity/possession during Jesus earthly ministry was Satan’s frustrated anger in trying to kill Him who would eventually cast the devil into Hell. However, it occurred to me recently that some ‘legal rights’ must have been given demons to possess people in such unprecedented numbers. Read the gospels and you’ll see that a large percentage of the population was possessed. Jesus incarnation occurred at a time when even God’s people were gripped by widespread occultic superstition—the same sort of thing predicted will happen prior to Jesus Second Coming…widespread occultic superstition. That is why I have said on many occasions that we must be very careful how we interpret the words of the disciples prior to Pentecost (e.g. their comments re ghosts, Mark 6) They lived in a culture that was opening doors to the demonic left and right!
In the verse quoted above from Mark’s gospel, demonic possession became so common it was a daily and crucial part of Jesus ministry, exorcism. The gospels speak of this heightened demonic activity in a dignified, understated, and non-sensational fashion. One can assume rightly, I think, that if demonic possession had become commonplace, then other forms of paranormal activity must have been occurring as well. Where there is true possession, then other ‘weirdness’ is always also present.
At the coming of Christ, it makes sense that Satan would ramp up activity. In his frustrated anger, the devil was attacking his Creator and Judge.
If you look at this activity, the identity and purpose is front and center…no guess work at all. Satan/demons were pulling out all the stops to destroy people and Jesus…the second/final Adam.
Jesus close earthly friend, John, wrote The Revelation…yet he fell at His feet as if dead. In the texts quoted from John above, we note that paranormal activity is going to explode prior to the Second Coming. All kinds of incredible signs and wonders will abound and lead people astray, as people become mesmerized and undiscerning while exposed to paranormal activity….false signs and wonders.
To get to the point, we see from the Word, that there is a common thread that runs through all paranormal activity, from Genesis to Revelation: the identity behind the vast diversity of paranormal activity is Satan/demons, and the purpose is deception and destruction of humans.
Using a military analogy, most know that deception is part and parcel of human warfare. Sometimes there is the all-out frontal assault, but often even then, there is always the attempt to throw the enemy off balance via deception. George Washington was a master of deception and espionage!
The bible states that we are engaged in vicious spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6) Hence, the ‘father of lies’ has deception in his blood. Starting with the deception via the beast in the garden, up until the last days, the devil uses deception. In this war the identity of our enemy is clear, as is his purpose: a common thread.
I mention the warfare because this deepens and clarifies/explains the common thread that runs through all paranormal activity. We must see paranormal activity for what it is: in the context of spiritual war. Every paranormal entity…all paranormal activity, are not just disjointed events. As a brilliant general, Satan ensures that there is a common thread that runs through all paranormal activity…it is ALL part of his attack on God and His creation, especially humans. He is not perfect—he makes mistakes—but you can bet that every scrap of paranormal activity (otherwise known as overt demonic activity) is an attempt to dishonor God, and deceive and destroy us. It is war!
BUT, God will make that thread unravel. Indeed, at the cross it has already begun unraveling. Amen!
With the awareness of this common thread comes the ability to see all paranormal activity through God’s eyes. All paranormal activity is demonic activity! You don’t investigate demonic activity, you attack it in the name of Jesus of Nazareth!

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.

Why Is GOD So Cruel When It Comes to Paranormal Activity?
Time and time again I get asked if GOD is all powerful why then does GOD not stop all of this paranormal activity (attacks) which is taking place in the homes of the afflicted. The answer to this question is a two-fold. First of all, we as humans have sinned, as our flesh is of sin right from our birth, for all have sinned. Secondly, this is also done in a manner to mock GOD by the Fallen Angels.
Yes, GOD can and will stop all the Demonic attacks (known as paranormal activity) when GOD is ready to do so. Here is where people fail to grasp the true key of ending this activity in their lives. GOD will stop all this activity when YOU are ready to succumb to his will and become a righteous person. Let me repeat this, GOD will stop this when YOU decide to live life proper according to the Bible and not live in a manner that displeases GOD. SIN is SIN bottom line. Time and time again the clients I help struggle with this plain and simple fact. You must turn from your ways of old and become new. 1 Peter 5:8 KJV is how all of us are to operate.
Example of this situation described above regarding activity in a home or upon a person would be anger. Men and women both suffer from this terrible situation time and time again. However, when the anger sets in because one feels they have a right to feel angry with someone but this is a SIN. Anger leads to other avenues if not dealt with in the proper manner, such as hate, vengeance, murder, etc…
A recent exorcism engaged with a woman who traveled over 2000 miles to have me help her, had a multitude of demonic forces attacking her and residing within (Shiva known as the Destroyer and Beelzebub the Boss). Shiva indicated to that it was set forth by Beelzebub in the kingdom of Evil to destroy this woman and all women. That is the mission of those in the kingdom of evil per the words of Jesus himself John 10:10 KJV.
GOD commands that keep our body pure and holy. The body is a made in the image of GOD and thus we are to meditate upon his word to remain pure and righteous with GOD. Proverbs 19:19 KJV commands us to not have anger or rage otherwise we as humans will suffer many penalties from GOD. However, as humans we feel we have the innate ability to be all and know all, which is a false sense of security and that is what the Fallen Angels desire. Any action that we as humans do that lead us further away from GOD thus gives the Fallen Angels more reason to pursue us.
Some of the clients I worked with still have issues dealing with anger, thus they are still having paranormal activity taking place. They get frustrated and upset because life does throw curve balls at us. However, when this continues to occur we know diabolical influences are at work behind the scene. These people expect GOD to rush in and fix “their” issues. Only to have GOD do that and thus go right back to the way they live their lives, in SIN. Whether it be living together as a couple but not married, drug abuse, stealing, adultery, etc…you cannot go back to the ways you once held.
GOD is not to be mocked Galatians 6:7 KJV that is taking place in their lives. As the activity continues to ramp up against them the anger continues to grow even against GOD. Time and time again I always get told “this is not fair, GOD needs fix this and why will GOD not listen to me?” Now, not all clients do this, but you cannot tell GOD what to do. By creating this division upon a person and thus the Fallen Angels search for this division. Per the words spoken by Christ, a kingdom divided cannot stand Matthew 12:25 KJV.
Many clients still struggle after the engagements are made against those within to set these people free. A false sense of security and safeness is what many clients struggle with after the demonic are engaged. Time and time again the number one question I ask the person about their Bible studies and shockingly enough over 85% of these people say I’m still working on that as I have a lot going on right now. These things are still attacking me as I am told and I sit as well as listen to their stories filled with frustration and anger.
Then the very next question posed to me is “Why is GOD so cruel”? I sit and I am flabbergasted as these people say this to me. I understand why they feel this way, but what many people fail to understand and comprehend is that YOU cannot go back to the way you once lived. A man must become a Kingdom man and a woman must become a Proverbs 31 woman. Prior to the engagements we discuss how they are to live after everything is done and over with time and time again. Yes, the demonic want what they once had, but you cannot give the Devil a foot hold either by living in the manners in which you once did. Ephesians 4:27 KJV describes exactly what we are to do.
The issue as Jesus Christ stated, the true believer is the one who denies himself and picks up his cross daily Matthew 16:24 KJV. Many people struggle with this because they don’t like the road of righteousness because it is “lack luster” and non-appealing to the many. The life you once lived was much more appealing and a strong desire to go back to surfaces. Many people feel they can blend their old ways and new ways together. 1 Corinthians 6:15 KJV indicates this is not the case. This is where the anger starts because that life once walked had SIN and also had the demons upon them as well.
Decisions are difficult, frustration becomes apparent in those that suffered in the past due to the actions of the Fallen Angels wanting back what they once held. Thus anger sets in due to the fact these people want this nightmare over, which they have that right to have. However, you do NOT have the right to be angry at GOD when you chose not to live righteously for GOD.
A person must now walk in righteousness in the name of Christ. This is the whole plan to cast deceit by the Fallen Angels against the person so that they have access back into this person by using confusion upon them. So the real question is not if GOD is cruel or not, the real question to be stated is “Will you accept the invitation to know and follow his will”? God is waiting for your answer!
God’s Blessings.

The Destruction of the Canaanites & Paranormal Activity/Beliefs
By Reverend Mark Hunnemann

Is All Paranormal Activity Demonic? Yes...and No!
By Reverend Mark Hunnemann
"Are they (angels) not all ministering spirits sent out
to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?" (Hebrews
1:14)
"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for
thereby some have entertained angels unawares." (Hebrews 13:2)
What do I mean (and NOT mean) when I say virtually all
paranormal activity is demonic? I remind you that this is a blog and not a
technical philosophy paper in which I meticulously clarify every comment I make. After writing nearly 200 blogs on the bible and the paranormal, the body of my
writing makes this distinction clear, but I want to do so in a concise fashion.
Until the last century or so, when theology went berserk, the
classical position of historical Christianity from the church fathers onwards,
has been what some have dubbed the "simplistic" view....all
paranormal activity is demonic.
However, there are good reasons for clarification--angelic
activity and broader parapsychology issues--force us to use more precision. If
we wish to communicate effectively, then we need to stop periodically and
clarify the terms we use and assumptions we hold. Frankly, there are many who
find my position to be simplistic or even harmful, so I want to make very clear
what I mean.
Ideally, it would be helpful to distinguish between
paranormal activity and supernatural activity--the former referring to psychic
phenomena that is not easily explainable (e.g. Dream analysis, NDE, deja vu,
and so on) and "supernatural" referring to activity caused by God,
angles, or demons. However, I wrestled with this when writing my book--most
folks would not know what I meant if I said, "Virtually all supernatural
phenomena is demonic." I am using 'paranormal', not as parapsychologists
would define it, but as the millions of folks in the street understand it, and
as it is presented in so many TV shows. To confuse things further, what some
may say is simply unexplainable, I MAY differ and call it demonic--it all
depends upon the situation and the phenomenon.
I write as one who has been in the trenches on several dozen
demonic cases and have emotional scars, and not as a detached theologian or
academic parapsychologist.. I will come back to this, but it is the (and this
is crucial) weirdness and evil encountered in/with innumerable people,
homes, businesses, and properties that I am referring to when I speak of
"paranormal activity as being demonic." That is a partial
clarification, but let me clarify further. What of angels? Don't they act in
supernatural/paranormal way, so how can you call it demonic"?
1. Angels.
How do you fit angelic activity in this summary statement, since they are
capable of interacting with our world every bit as much as fallen angels? Let
me explain. From the first text quoted above (Hebrews 1:14), we have a general
job description for angels. They are referred to as "ministering
spirits" whose calling it is to serve Christians (those who will inherit
salvation). To say that angels are "ministering spirits" (leitourgika
pneumata) who have been sent here to SERVE US (diakonian...same root we get
"deacon' from) is both astonishing and comforting. This is important to
remind ourselves of. They minister to us...they serve us....that is why they
are here! How? The text does not spell it out, and that is probably intentional
because there are so many ways that this ministry of theirs can be expressed.
My guess is that most of their protection of us goes unnoticed by us, but there
is also a plethora of anecdotal evidence of angelic intervention in times of
crisis. I am confident some you reading this have had experiences in which you
scratched your head afterwards and wondered if you had had an angelic
encounter.. So, when there is real angelic activity, the recipients are invariably
some human/s who are being served or ministered to in some way; they are helping
us. Serving and ministering are generally, by their nature, non-extraordinary
or sensationalistic. They do not like to bring attention to themselves....and
all the glory goes clearly to the Lord. Fallen angels are polar opposites....
Remember what I said above re the popular understanding of
paranormal activity--it centers around some odd, bizarre or even frightening
activity, that usually does not contain the element of helping us. To put it
another way, ANGELS DO NOT DO HOME WEIRDNESS....(though they may make their
presence known) Make sense? Almost by definition, the kind of cases that
necessitate assistance, and find their way to TV, are usually not going to be
angels quietly assisting us in some way. TV gravitates to the sensational,
which angels tend to avoid. Though I hasten to add that some of their serving
interventions can be extraordinary.
One last comment here, just because a spirit seems to be
helping a person, does not automatically discount demonic deception. For them,
the end does justify the means, and if they can gain a families trust via a
"good" deed, then they are not beneath using this to destroy them at
a later time. "Angels of light" remember? That is why we must always
be discerning (1 John 4:1ff)
The second text from Hebrews is a fascinating comment re how
common angelic encounters are! Obviously from this text, the writer is speaking
of angels when they take on human form, and were visiting people. It makes
sense..we know fallen angels can/do mimic people (usually deceased but not
always), but their intent is always God-dishonoring and deception meant to harm
us. Angles do not visit us to bring attention to themselves, but to serve us,
IN SOME WAY.....which can be as diverse as the stars in the universe! But they
are expert mimickers of human appearance....without the element of dark
deception.
Angels delight in serving us; that is their primary job
description. However, they do not bring attention to themselves. Back to what I
said earlier--when I refer to "paranormal activity", I am referring
to it in its generally understood usage, and not its technical definition.
More specifically, when most people think of paranormal activity, they have in mind
the weirdness or evil they have encountered in their home or business...or the
same they have seen on TV or movie theatre. So, when I say that virtually all
paranormal activity is demonic, it is demonic home invasion I am usually
referring to. Again,, ANGELS DO NOT DO HOME INVASIONS OR HOME WEIRDNESS....or
any activity that might instill fear or confusion (footsteps, bangs, and so on)
In addition, I find it unnecessary and harmful to attribute
to deceased human beings, assistance or citings doing that what angels are
supposed to do.
Suppose there is a family travelling on a remote stretch of
mountain road.. Their car swerves and careens over the guard rail. Everyone is
injured to some extent, but only the father dies. However, trapped out of
sight, is the wreckage in which mom and two children are unable to extricate
themselves. Suppose,a Highway Patrol man, who has been alerted to the missing
family, sees what appears to be the dad waving his hands for the officer to
stop..The officer stops....but the "dad" is not on the
road--vanished! The officer looks over the guard rail, and discovers the
wreckage. Was it dad, or an angel, appearing as dad? Or perhaps a demon,
with an ulterior motive...?
Do we not see that this is EXACTLY the type activity that
falls within the job description of angels?! It is not a peripheral activity in
assisting that family--it is the primary reason they have been sent here.
"ministering spirits sent to serve..." And that family certainly fits
the bill.
Granted that is an extreme case, but I am concerned about
ways that we are allowing demons (in the guise of deceased humans) in the back
door, by finding exceptional circumstances which allegedly allow for deceased
human visitation. The dad has entered his rest in heaven, and is not going to come
here--that is the perogative of the angelic, not humans. "But that is
deceptive Mark!" Really? Unless we are prepared to call the angelic
activity mentioned in Hebrews 13:2 as ungodly deception--which we may not
do--then angels mimicking humans (even deceased family members) in emergencies
is GOOD. If you think about it, mimicking the "dad" was a wise
angelic strategy--especially if the family has been missing, and the High Way
Patrol (which has prior knowledge of the mans appearance) will know to be looking
for him and the entire family.
Put another way, if demons take on the appearance of
deceased humans to cause harm, then it only makes sense that angels will do the
same to serve or help us--it is at the core of their job
description....certainly consistent with it--to minister to us through serving.
2. Parapsychology--did
Adam and Eve have some psychic powers in the Garden, that were lost, dimished,
or even outlawed after the Fall? I do not know....and nobody knows for sure.
However, I am inclined to say yes. However you answer that question, it is an
area fraught with peril. Regardless, there is simply too much evidence to
dismiss some of what is "paranormal" in the more technical sense.
Some of the NDE's experience is real. Yes, some seems to be demonic...but not
all. We must be careful to not demonize a phenomenon that is sometimes vitiated
by the demonic. What of the psychic "connection" between twins? Some
of you have had vivid dreams of the future....visions even. I know that visions
of Jesus have been instrumental in the conversion of many Muslims. This dream
phenomenon illustrates the need for discernment, as some are clearly
supernatural, while others are simply inexplicable.
Parapsychology is a broad field, which often overlaps that
which originates from God or the demonic. Studying parapsychology from
professional parapsychologists can be dangerous because they routinely immerse
themselves in study of things God abominates.
I am not attributing all which is inexplicable to the
demonic. I am not attributing all which is paranormal (narrowly defined) as
demonic. Space prohibits me from discussing in greater detail the various
phenomena that is "paranormal" (above normal), but not supernatural.
On numerous occasions I have mentioned the amazing sensitivity many folks have
to the supernatural realm--a lot of these folks are earnest Christians. It
baffles me, but I don't condemn it. We must not demonize everything we do not
understand. I know that some folks think I do that, including not a few believers.
Be that as it may, here is an instance where I am trying to walk a tight-rope.
What I am convinced is clearly demonic is any/all paranormal
activity as it is popularly defined and understood. While I have a passion for
academic parapsychology, I have a greater passion to communicate effectively in
warning folks of supernatural evil.
Examples of demonic "paranormal activity" would
include--shadow figures, apparitions, apportation/deportation of car
keys, indoor rain, footsteps and bangs which have no natural explanation (again,
angels do NOT do home weirdness), scratches....ANY POLTERGEIST ACTIVITY, as it
is popularly defined, (stuff moving) is demonic. Hope that helps...or clear as
mud!
"Seeing Ghosts through God's Eyes" (also in a Kindle edition)...please consider purchasing my book which uses science, logic, and the bible to analyze the true source of power behind paranormal activity.

True Spirituality--a Three Legged Stool
By Reverend Mark Hunnemann
"During most of
the history of Christianity, doctrine, piety, and ethics have gone hand in
hand." (Harold OJ Brown, 'Heresies', pg. 433)
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of
His might." (Ephesians 6:10)
I have said on numerous occasions that "virtually all
paranormal activity is demonic in nature".
Next time I want to explore this in-depth--clarifying what I mean and do
NOT mean by this assessment. What about angels? And what kind of paranormal
activity am I referring to? Next week...
This week, I want to discuss what true spirituality is.
Francis Schaeffer wrote a marvelous book entitled True Spirituality, but
this will not be a re-hash of the contents of his book, as superb as it is.
Rather, I was convicted by how much modern evangelicalism has embraced a
deficient, one-dimensional view of what it means to be a balanced Christian. Dr
Brown's monumental analysis of heresies helped to clarify the basic issues.
True spirituality is defined, not by us, but by the bible.
And the bible likens a healthy or balanced faith to a three-legged stool. It
actually does not use that analogy, but the three-fold nature of biblical
Christianity is found from Genesis to Revelation. With a three-legged stool, if
any of the legs are missing or are weak, then it will be unsteady at best, and
a disaster waiting to happen, at worst. The three "legs" of true
spirituality are: biblical truth or doctrine, existential (moment-by-moment)
piety--abiding in Christ or personal communion with Him, and ethics.(individual
and social). In the last 2,000 years of church history, various
"legs" have been emphasized at times, often to the neglect of one or
both of the other "legs". Nevertheless, as Brown points out,"During
most of the history of Christianity, doctrine, piety, and ethics have gone hand
in hand." (Brown, Heresies) So, he spells out the three legs of
true spirituality.
What does all this have to do with a biblical worldview
analysis of the occullt and necromancy? A lot actually. Think about it--if
being a faithful Christian only (or mainly) entails concern about me as an
individual...MY salvation...MY sanctification...MY experience with Jesus, then
concern for culture and society is lost. Indeed, there are Christian leaders
today who think precisely that--they liken concern for issues like abortion,
racism, and the occult as re-arranging the lounge chairs on the Titanic!
"The world belongs to Satan and is going to hell anyway, so why worry
about it? Just preach the simple gospel, and be simple Christians." It may
not be stated so explicitly, but most evangelicals ascribe to this pietistic
mentality of radical individualism, and the results are disastrous...leaving us
with a one-legged stool.
1.
The first leg of true spirituality is that of doctrine.
Due to a confluence of issues in addition to pietism, there has never been a
time in the history of the church where concern for solid orthodoxy has been
weaker than it is today. Let me try to be more positive in how I state this--if
you wish to make your life count maximally for the Lord, then you need to place
a premium on theological/biblical truth. My dear friends, have we not been
commanded to "contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the
saints. (Jude 3)? Then biblical truth should be like fire in our bones!
Theologians, Protestant and Catholic, have fallen prey to
the notion of "progress", instead of faithfulness to a body of truth
that has been delivered to us. Preachers (with some notable exceptions) have
lost a passion for rich expository preaching.
On an old bulletin from the church I used to pastor--dated
1990,-there is the following quote at the top, "To worship is to quicken
the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God,
to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of
God.." (William Temple) Do you see how all of those are directly related
to our understanding of the whole counsel of God?
If you were to ask me what I thought the greatest need of
the church is today, I would not hesitate to say that our most urgent need is a
deeper understanding of the holiness of God the Father. That would have a
domino effect, including a deeper spirituality.
Spiritual warfare is first a truth encounter, and then it is
a power encounter, not vice versa..It has been said that American Christianity
today is 3,000 miles wide and a half an inch deep....many millions profess
Christ, but their doctrinal leg is weak or missing altogether.. Let us recover
a passion for truth. Indeed, Jesus is the Truth.
People were burned and drowned for heresy in the past, and
that is utterly reprehensible. However, they did understand something vital,
which we have largely forgotten--heresy (serious doctrinal error) has a
corrupting effect on culture, as well as on individuals.
2.
Personal piety is the second leg. This aspect gets most
attention today. It is fruitless to argue which leg is most important, but
certainly a personal, moment-by-moment walk with Christ is the essence of eternal
life (which begins the instant one is saved..see John 17:1ff) The bible is
emphatic that at the heart of true spirituality is a deep love for the Lord.
Indeed, that is our purpose in life--the greatest commandment--to love God with
all of our being. When it comes to our basic purpose in life, there is no
variation from person to person--ALL of us are called to a love relationship
with the Lord, which takes primacy over all other loves.
Few things are uglier, both to God and a watching world,
than a dead orthodoxy. The Reformation of the 1,500's was a recovery of the
centrality of the God of grace, and the grace of God.....the gospel. Oddly,
perhaps the greatest hindrance to deep devotion FOR God is ministry/service TO
God. But how can pastors--or how can we--expect to have victory over Satan if
we are not strong in Him? John 15 reminds us that we can do nothing apart from
our existential communion with Jesus. Let us resolve to awaken each day with a
holy passion of relishing and delighting in our love for the Lord, and His love
for us.
3.
Ethics is the third leg. Harold OJ Brown points out in
some detail how early Pietism (1,700's) devolved from a concern for individual
and society, to just the concerns of the individual. Wherever the devil is
attacking our culture, the church is supposed to be the first and last bastion
of defense...as salt and light. The last leg in our three-legged stool of true
spirituality is a passion for applying the gospel to the needs of our
generation. But when preachers, as taught in seminary, see their primary
calling as making the gospel relevant to the felt needs of the individual, then
the ethical leg is severed.
In his last book The Great Evangelical Disaster,
published in 1984, Francis Schaeffer pleads with Christians (especially
leaders) to confront evil and error. He lamented that, as a whole (with notable
exceptions), we were not confronting "the spirit of the age", and by
default, we were accommodating the growth of evil and error. Hence, our culture
was unraveling right before our eyes. Sadly, what Schaeffer said back in 1984
(selfish, individualistic pietism), has become even more ensconced in our
culture in 2014. True spirituality, one that is biblically balanced and
pleasing to the Lord, will confront the issues facing our generation. It
saddens me that the historic stance of Christianity towards necromancy, has
changed so radically in such a short time. So, where are the sermons on the
paradigm shift to occultism? Abortion? When I took homiletics (preaching) in
seminary, we were taught to do two things--work hard to be faithful to the true
meaning of the text, and to work equally hard on sensitively applying the
unchanging truth to the changing needs of our generation...wherever the devil
is attacking, we are to attack!
Please search your own heart to see which leg of the 3
legged stool which you need to attend to. The Lord bless you and keep you. Mark
"Seeing Ghosts through God's Eyes" (also in a Kindle edition)...please consider purchasing my book which uses science, logic, and the bible to analyze the true source of power behind paranormal activity.

Trapped Spirits and the Loss of Hope
By Reverend Mark Hunnemann
“Sir, your blood oxygen level is 74 %, which is very dangerously low…we have to get you to the hospital ASAP!” This was said to me two weeks ago when I visited my doctors office. I was struggling to breathe, and for good reason—I had pneumonia. It was the sickest I have ever been in my entire life, and I could easily have died, especially with my heart problems. I spent several miserable days in the hospital as they fought to control the infection and get oxygen in my system. I was scared, because it was so difficult to breathe and I felt like any second my heart would go into cardiac arrest (I have a pace/defib in my chest).
It was impossible to get comfortable, and as I said, I wrestled with fear—not of death, but the dying process...as well as I did not want to leave my children yet. The potential of death was thrust in my face, like never before. I have a strong assurance of my salvation—not based on my faith, but on the OBJECT of my faith—the Person and work of Jesus Christ. Hence, I do have hope, and it was deeper than any fear that I experienced.
It is impossible to exaggerate how crucial hope is to the biblical message of salvation. Faith, hope, and love…Hope is not to be understood as the word is commonly used today, as wishful thinking. No, biblical hope is certain faith applied to the future. Remember the spiritual “Swing low, sweet chariot, coming for to carry me home...”? Certainty! That is hope. We die in Christ, and then we immediately join Him in heaven. We are to be certain of that, because hope is soaked in the blood of the finished work of Christ.
The question I have is this: how is it possible to live with a solid, soul-comforting hope, if the prospect (no matter how remote) of being trapped here after death is hanging over your head? The notion of trapped spirits vitiates or destroys hope. You can’t have your hope-cake and eat it too. You cannot believe in trapped spirits and (if you are consistent), experience deep hope.
I have stated elsewhere that the notion of trapped spirits is hostile to every major biblical doctrine. If you are a Christian, how can you live with such a monstrosity? This notion is a hope-robber, and that should raise a red flag. It kills, steals, and destroys hope.
Due to this close run in with death, I have lost patience with those who espouse trapped spirits but do not have the courage to acknowledge what is manifestly clear—we all should live in fear… if we are consistent with basic ghost formation theory. Unless you are excited or turned on about the prospect of being trapped in a paranormal gutter world, then the only logical position is fear, or hope-lessness. Hope—biblical hope—is impossible to enjoy if ghosts are real. It is as simple and profound as that.
One thing I admire about the atheistic, existentialists Camus and Sartre is that they had guts to be consistent. If God is not there, then life is utterly meaningless. Where is the same guts in the paranormal community? When is someone going to say,”Ya know, what we believe undercuts all hope.”? The notion of trapped spirits gets folks all jazzed because it allegedly proves an afterlife. Well, what about that after-life? If there is any element of violence (or whatever) in one’s death, then their entry into heaven will potentially be derailed into an indeterminate amount of time trapped here. That is a high price to pay for allegedly proving the after-life (which it doesn’t).
There is not one scrap of evidence that ghosts exist. NONE. There is a ton of real paranormal activity happening which is being mis-identified as ghostly, but it is demonic. If you will simply take the time to test the spirits you will see that this is factual. Which of you is messing with the spirit world and NOT having problems (like paranormal activity of your own)?
It has been said that one cannot live well until they are certain that they will die well. That is, hope is needed in order to live with fullness of joy in the present. You may live in happy inconsistency with your beliefs. But if you become consistent, then you should become miserably insecure. Your hope is empty and groundless. If the only way you can live with your beliefs is by “side-stepping” it, then perhaps you should re-consider that belief…seems logical to me. But logic is a rare commodity in the paranormal community, when it comes to examining its core beliefs.
What of the eight year old child who was murdered in Boston? I have nothing but contempt for the notion of trapped spirits, because HE IS A PRIME PROSPECT (according to ghost theory). You say you believe in trapped spirits…you assert with confidence that a violent death is the cause of entrapment…congratulations, you just stripped the child’s parents of hope. Have the damn guts to apply your beliefs consistently. If this were done, then think of the millions of Americans who have died violent deaths through the centuries. The consequences would be unspeakably horrific.
Having almost died myself, I know how crucial hope is. My stay in the hospital would have been unbearably dark if I had harbored the smallest doubt about my soul getting stuck here. I have no patience for the miserable waffling in the paranormal community. Do you believe in ghosts? Then have the courage of your convictions and lament the death of hope. Better yet, repent of your rationalistic/autonomous thinking, and bow before the God of the bible—who will give you true hope.

Issue 122 – Paula Deen Meltdown & "A Haunted House"
By Kirby Robinson
Tonight, the radio show is about Communion with the Devil.
The program starts at 7 PST. Here's the
info:
The Paula Deen Meltdown -- Sometimes You Should Settle Out of Court
Paula Deen may not be a name within the paranormal
unless she's cooking ghost cake and disappearing pie. But her case is one that
should teach us that we as a society happen to be messed up.
It goes back to the Oprah years--if you're on TV you
should be looked up to and almost worshipped. If you have some sort of talent
and are seen on TV, you're automatically an expert and people need to hang onto your words.
Paula Deen was a person who could cook, had a friendly
on-air personality and the "it" factor in front of the camera. She
also had one heck of a marketing team behind her.
She became obsessed with the almighty dollar. Enough was
never enough. When it came time to inform the public about her diabetes, did
she just come out and share it at a press conference? No, she waited for three
years to tell the world. When she did, it was on the Today Show and it was
linked to a business deal that would allow her to profit off her illness. The
most troubling line from the program is when she said, "We spent the past
3 years trying to figure how to best handle it." How does it take three
long years? And during that time her recipes remained high in fat, butter and sugar.
I found it humorous when her team claimed that her
food wasn't meant to be eaten everyday but as a treat now and then. If you read
any of her more than one dozen cookbooks, you won't find such a statement.
Whether the events in the discrimination suite took
place or not no one knows unless they happened to be there. When the use of the
N word came up in her deposition, her lawyer should have advised her to settle
it privately and seal the deposition. It's better to lose one million dollars
of a 20 million empire, then it is to lose a 20 million empire---along with her
reputation.
The story would've died there and she would've
recouped the lost money within a year or two.
Additionally, the I AM SORRY debacle would've been
avoided and the most damning video wouldn't be seen:
Notice when she talks about her great-grandfather, a
plantation and slave owner, she says that he was sad over the loss of his son
and the war. Translation: he was sad that he could no longer own slaves and
profit off them. Yes, sad about the loss of his son is understandable. And sad
that in one year he went from 30 workers [slaves] down to zero. Unable to cope
with running the plantation, because he was either too cheap or too broke to
pay the slaves who were required by law to be paid, great-grandfather killed
himself.
Notice she says that we're all prejudiced against
something. We all, according to her, dislike something like say, broccoli, is
one thing. Disliking a person due to gender, race, or religion is something altogether
different.
She should read up on the Jim Crow laws to grasp the
amount of suffering that African- Americans went through up until the 1960s.
She states, "That black people feel the same
prejudice that white people feel."
Her bringing out Hollis, the young black man, reminds
me of the story of the German businessman who visited the town hall in his hometown
in the early 1940s. He said, "I need my Jew back he is unlike any of the
other Jews."
But this isn't the end of Paula, far from it. The Food
Network is known for being cheap when it comes to on air talent. In a few weeks
she'll sign a new contract with a new network and in our minds, which jumps
from scandal to scandal, it'll soon be forgotten.
"A HAUNTED HOUSE" IS ABSOLUTELY SHAMEFUL!
"A HAUNTED HOUSE producers need to offer the
paranormal field an apology. Please know that not everyone is like that.
I try to avoid movies about the paranormal these days.
Movies like Paranormal Activity 1 through
whatever or The Last Exorcist 2 are
often based on fake paranormal reality shows like Ghost Hunters or the former Paranormal
State. I wasn't really interested to hear that I was going to watch A Haunted House at a friend's [unhaunted]
home along with dinner. After sitting through this very uneven movie, I noticed
the characters portraying paranormal professionals act in a way you'd never see
from real professionals in the field.
1 Paranormal team leader [Dan the Security Man]
It saddens me and it should sadden you, that this
movie implies this about all the talented paranormal investigators out there
- Paranormal teams run around in matching jackets, t-shirts
and golf shirts and even have logos on the side of the vans and SUVs
- They aren't trained to handle any situation
- That they care about having a TV show
- If they get a TV show, they'd never have such a cheesy
title like GHOST GUYS
2 The exorcist [Father Williams]
All of our talented and caring people who are hard
working demonologists are portrayed as:
- Being fake
- Having a prison record
- Wearing the collar of a priest, father or reverend
and not being ordained [and not being ordained].
- Having a drinking/drug issue
- Talking about sex in front of a client
- Performing something other than a proper exorcism
3 Finally, they did no justice to the truly gifted and
dedicated psychics that we have in the paranormal field. In "A Haunted House"
they actually have a character call Chip the Psychic. This individual presents
none of the good qualities our true psychics do.
Our psychics are not:
- Fake
- Actively pursuing their client[s]
- Asking the client[s] personal questions or questions
about sexual orientation
- More interested in self-gratification
- None of our psychic workers would ever run around a
client's home naked, wearing only argyle socks
We ask all true paranormal professionals to stand up
and don't rent this movie, or support the filmmakers in any further adventures.
Thank you.
