Eye on the Paranormal – Issue 8: The Truth From the Inside

Copyright 2008-2011 By Kirby Robinson

This is a repost of the article that was the beginning of the end for the credibility of  Paranormal State and the  para-celebrities that took part in the deceptions perpetrated by the show and its producers.

I’ve had my say, I have presented you with my analysis and research into the conduct of the Paranormal Research Society, Paranormal State, Chip Coffey, Ryan Buell and numerous other para-celebrities who have engaged in acts of deception, distortion, and out and out lies. Now it’s time that you hear it and read it from the mouths of those who have been on the receiving end of those acts.

Kelli states: “[Name removed] referred me to you. My husband and I are not under any legal restraint from telling the truth about what Ryan Buell and Chip Coffey did and what was edited and aired on our episode of A&E's Paranormal State.

Chip Coffey play acted at being psychic. He was given every bit of information regarding our case and the identity of the ghost of the past-previous owner of our home who died 28 years before we bought our Gold Beach, Oregon home.

I am a medical hypnotherapist and respected medium and psychic with many satisfied clients. We contacted PRS after our ghost, Bill Wells, began asking us for help.

The PRS team represented themselves as being part of Penn State University, which was only the beginning of their deceptions. We initially asked for help because there was some sort of entity in our downstairs hall and adjacent rooms which my own spirit guide warned me from dealing with on my own.”

Kelli and Riley Ryan are a very loving couple who purchased their dream home in Gold Beach, Oregon. Kelli who is a gifted psychic/medium, had established the Hypnotist Center in Merced, California in 1989. She is very accurate within her readings, very comfortable with spiritual communication, and has always embraced her gifts to be of help to others.

After moving in, the couple, along with Kelli’s personal spirit guide, encountered a very pleasant ghost by the name of Bill. Bill was the former owner of the home whose death was tragic, to say the least, that caused much pain for his family, friends, and the entire community of Gold Beach.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only entity that had taken up residence in her home. In addition, a very dark and sinister spirit had staked claim to their kitchen and hallway, moving objects at will, turning appliances off and on, frightening their ghost, Bill. The dark entity physically attacked both Kelli and her husband. Her personal spirit guide wisely informed her not to attempt to deal with the dark entity on her own but to get professional help which they did when they contacted PRS seeking such help.

Kelli states: “We made first contact with PRS by email Saturday June 21, 2008. We described all phenomenon and asked if they could help us or refer us to someone who could. We put our trust in PRS because they mention Penn State University so prominently at the beginning of their program. We felt an esteemed university would not want to expose themselves to liability so we thought PRS must be acting responsibly.

We received a phone call from Eric Leven of A&E 10:30AM Pacific Time on Monday, June 23, 2008. He told us that he was making our case a top priority because it was such a compelling story (seeing a headless ghost, all kitchen appliances turning on by themselves, kitchen canister sliding across kitchen counter and falling on the floor, an evil entity in the hallway, being locked in the bathroom, being touched, scratched, bruised, squeezed until I couldn’t breath and a kindly ghost asking for help). Eric Leven asked if we could send documentation that Bill Wells lived in our home and died in an accident. We sent the news article detailing Bill’s accident and funeral along with deeds to show the list of former owners. At Eric Leven’s request we sent photographs of all the areas of our home where the phenomenon occurred regularly with detailed descriptions.”

So the wheels of deception begin to turn.

Kelli states: “On Tuesday, July 1, 2008 Sumit David, Paranormal State Producer, arrived at our home to scout the location, interview us on camera and film all the haunted areas of our home. He toured our haunted house, property, and surrounding forest. He was actually quite frightened by the trees surrounding our home. He indicated they could start filming as early as July 10, 2008.

A&E was very pushy about urging us to contact Jim Gardner, the driver in Bill Wells’ fatal accident. We told them we would try again, but we didn’t want to harass the man. We contacted him shortly after discovering Bill’s identity. The point of us contacting PRS was to get Bill the help he was pleading for. Bill wanted people in the town to know there was no wrongdoing on anyone’s part and, indeed, it was only an accident. He also wanted Jim to know he was happy in heaven and he wanted his friend to be happy and live his life without guilt or sadness. A&E said Ryan Buell was very good at convincing people to take part in their investigations and how his participation would help the healing process.

Sumit David promised us nothing on the show would be done which would be injurious to Bill Wells’ loved ones. Nothing would prove to be farther from the truth than this most heinous lie.”

At this point we will use the episode, The Messenger, which was originally entitled The Headless Haunting. Each scene will be broken down exposing the deception that was occurring. Prior to the beginning of the opening credits, the lies and deception already start.

The Messenger, Part 1

The shot of Kelli observing a figure dashing past the window was staged. The person doing the dashing is a crewmember.

The photo of the tragic accident that killed Bill was never meant for public viewing. More on that later.

Chip and Ryan seeing something in the hallway and bedroom staged and fake—more on that later.

The case briefing takes place at the Gold Beach Rare Book Room what is interesting here is how secretive PRS is.

Kelli states: “The townspeople called me to tell me they were filming at the bookstore. The filming took place in the Gold Beach Books Rare Book Room. When I chatted with them casually about it they seemed uncomfortable, like they had been caught. They explained these things are secret to keep us from inventing things about our haunting and trying to embellish the story.”

Notice during the briefing that a bored looking Katrina is not taking notes and is simply playing with her small notebook. Why? It’s because she had spent two hours on the phone with Kelli discussing their case. Secondly, notice her at the point that Ryan himself was beginning to merge Bill the ghost and the dark entity into one. They never had any interest in helping the family; they simply sought to develop another sensational storyline. Kelli and her husband had never used the phrase shadow man. That’s of Ryan’s doing.

Kelli states: “Ryan took great pride in coming up with “This shadow man that you see in your home...” He practiced saying “shadow man” in a deeper register than he usually uses and was quite pleased with himself. He requires everyone on his team to worship him and show and express their admiration of him to everyone. Behind his back they express their disdain, but they all want to keep their job. Ben Wolf and Sumit David (director and producer at A&E) kind of laugh about Ryan’s attitude. These A&E and PRS crews were all very chilled here in Gold Beach’s 60-degree weather in July. I offered everyone coffee and hot tea which they loved and kept a sort of comfort canteen which they enjoyed immensely. We keep delicious coffee and 40 varieties of tea and chai, herbal and black. The crews were so grateful and comfortable they confided a great deal about their work experiences with Ryan. They are very young and Riley and I are grandparents who are “cool.” They were too comfy and confided too many secrets about Chip, Ryan and Michelle.”

The walk through is uneventful outside of one very telling scene. Watch Ryan pausing longer than normal to observe himself in the bathroom mirror.

We go to the client interviews with Kelli in the house, and Riley outside the house. Are they factual? And do they show a true photograph of what they were saying? No, not at all.

Kelli states: “They chop-edited everything. KOBI (NBC Station in Medford, OR) is doing a story about Bill writing a book. Bill Kelly, KOBI News Director, and Bob Wise, KOBI Station Manager, saw the episode and showed us all the voice-overs and chop-editing. They could see more editing than the average person and could hear the pieced together dialogue and that it didn’t match the action depicted.

That interview is in our upstairs master suite where we are storing many pieces of extra furniture as we work on our house. I am talking about 2 distinctly different spirits. Bill our kindly ghost asking for help to get a message to his friend, Jim, and the townspeople who misunderstood the reporting of his fatal accident. Bill wanted to set the record straight. The scary, fearful references are regarding an unidentified entity which was causing harm. This is the reason we needed help. We love Bill. Bill protects me from the other entity. Bill saved my life in an identical car crash I survived two weeks after moving in this house. We will email you a copy or you can purchase the tabloid article in the National Examiner 092908 issue in your grocery store tabloid check out display. Ironically, L.A. Justice wrote an accurate account without exaggerating or altering Bill’s story!”

You see in the first cut between Kelli and Riley, Kelli is talking about Bill the ghost, Riley about the dark entity.

Second cut between the two, she’s talking about Bill again, and Riley is talking about Kelli’s psychic abilities. Notice that Ryan is trying to downplay her talents.

Third cut, Kelli is talking about the dark entity, and so is her husband, neither is talking about Bill the kindly ghost.

Last cut, Kelli is talking about the dark entity, and not Bill. But if you just watch it on the surface the producers and Ryan want you to think of only one thing a dark and evil headless entity which is not really happening at all.

We next see that Michelle Belanger is brought into the case. Two years prior to the investigation, Kelli’s spirit guide had her begin to crochet a sweater that was for Michelle. Michelle also received readings from Kelli that were so accurate to Michelle it proved Kelli’s talents beyond any doubt. And she even refers to Kelli “as the best psychic I ever encountered.”

Michelle explains that she is there to “manifest” energy with the help of PRS occult specialist Eilfie to encourage the spirit to appear.

We now move to Dead Time. They state Dead Time is taking place at 3 AM. Well, let’s look at the facts. 1) Just going off of the meter we see the times 1:33, 1:35, 1:37, and 1:38 AM. 2) Now let’s get it from someone who was part of the filming.

Kelli states: “It didn't [begin at 3 AM] on either night. The first night is was from around 11:30PM to 1:30AM.”

We run through Dead Time, and the next scene to pay attention to is when Ryan interviews Heather about what happened during the supposed Dead Time. Notice that while Heather is sharing her experience, Ryan doesn’t look at her but at himself in the mirror throughout the entire scene.

Next up is Chip Coffey’s arrival on the scene. He does his normal walk through shtick and informs Ryan that a person with M letters then later changes it to W W.

This is one of those things that what you think you saw you really didn’t. Let’s focus on all the deception that took place here.

~1 Chip Coffey’s arrival. Remember, we are on Day 2 of filming. Is this when Chip gets into town? Not at all. He had been in town for over 48 hours prior to his “first arrival” on the scene.

~2 When Chip is asked by Ryan “Have I told you anything about the case?” Chip says: “You tell me nothing.” That’s actually the first truthful statement that they have made on camera at this point in the episode. Ryan didn’t have to tell anything. Chip knew the whole story of Bill’s death and the haunting prior to stepping foot on the property.

Kelli states: “Eric Leven asked if we could send documentation that Bill Wells lived in our home and died in an accident. We sent the news article detailing Bill’s accident and funeral along with deeds to show the list of former owners. At Eric Leven’s request we sent photographs of all the areas of our home where the phenomenon occurred regularly with detailed descriptions.

Eric Leven interviewed me by phone twice. He consulted Chip Coffey with all the details about our case before they decided to do the show.

We had to leave so we would not affect ‘so sensitive’ Chip’s psychic abilities. Chip had been given all those captioned photographs we sent Eric Leven explaining all locations in and around our home where the phenomenon occurred. As a result, Chip very accurately picked up on all the phenomenon including Bill Well’s initials, WW (William Wells).

Eric Leven from A&E told me on the phone, ‘I consulted Chip Coffey about your case and he was really excited. I forwarded all your info to him...’

On July 1st Sumit David, A&E Producer of Paranormal State came to our home, interviewed us on video and did the walk through on video so Chip Coffey could see everything in our home prior to his coming here. We showed him every place in and around our home where we have phenomenon and those are the exact places he picked up his psychic perceptions. They asked us to leave to do their walk through filming with Chip Coffey on the first day. We were told it was so he would not pick up anything from us regarding the dangerous entity in our hallway. We already knew he had all the information about Bill Wells, our ghost. We had to go away so we wouldn't see that they were doing nothing about the entity we were asking help getting rid of. All the ‘proof’ about Bill Wells was sent to them to prove we had a haunting to add credence to our claim about the entity in our hall.”

So we now see that everything concerning Chip Coffey’s readings and alleged accurate psychic abilities are nothing but a sham and a fraud. But it really starts to pile up from this point on. And I would advise wading boots if you decide to keep on reading, because the stuff is going to get very deep.

The Messenger, part 2

We now witness an outright scripted staged deception by Heather, Eilfie, and Michelle. They do a deed search and surprise, surprise they come up with the name William Wells. A voiceover then tells the viewer that Bill died a tragic death. They visit the local newspaper office The Curry County Reporter, and uncovered the tragic story of the death of William Wells. What is the deception, you ask? They knew the name of William Wells was already on the deed of property. They knew that William Wells died a tragic death. They already had the newspaper article concerning the accident.

Kelli states: “Eric Leven asked if we could send documentation that Bill Wells lived in our home and died in an accident. We sent the news article detailing Bill’s accident and funeral along with deeds to show the list of former owners. At Eric Leven’s request we sent photographs of all the areas of our home where the phenomenon occurred regularly with detailed descriptions.”

Kelli states: “Sumit David promised us nothing on the show would be done which would be injurious to Bill Wells’ loved ones. Nothing would prove to be farther from the truth than this most heinous lie.

We shared with PRS and A&E a sad history of Bill’s death. Bill’s death hurt the entire city of Gold Beach. He was the beloved pharmacist in this small coastal fishing village and touched virtually everyone in the county. His death at the age of 32 shocked and saddened an entire county and the strange circumstances surrounding the accident (one person dying, the other walking away without a scratch) caused a controversy, which divided the town, making lifetime enemies of formerly dear friends. People could sense there was some kind of cover-up. The feud was so detrimental to people’s business and personal lives, the townspeople agreed never to mention it again, never to speak Bill’s name again and never to speculate about what happened that first day of October 1978. The town never wavered from their agreement not to speak of Bill Wells or his accident ever again.”

Ryan interviews the first EMT man on the scene of the accident, which is spliced with photos from the police report and a voiceover of Heather and Michelle talking about Bill’s injuries.

This is just another example of acts of deception on Paranormal State’s part. They knew all of the horrendous details about Bill’s physical injuries and the photos were from the police report. But what they don’t bother to inform the viewer is that out of respect for Bill and his family, friends and entire community, they had kept that part a secret. Until Paranormal State decided to expose it to the world with no thought of the pain and suffering that such an act would do.

Kelli states: “A&E promised us they would not show these accident photos. No one in Gold Beach, including Bill’s wife, knew the extent of his injuries, other than head trauma. That his head was crushed and severed was kept secret. This was devastating to those who loved Bill. Bill isn’t a 200-year-old ghost. He would only be 63 this December 8th. His friends, widow, children, and friend who drove the vehicle and survived the accident are all still alive and most still live in Gold Beach. These photos have been a secret for 30 years. The ‘cover-up’ the town argued about, the secret they sensed, was the heart-breaking truth of the bloody death of a beloved citizen. The responding officers, doctors and survivor of the crash kept this secret to protect all of Bill Well’s loved ones from an ugly image so that they could remember the smiling man as he was in life, not the broken body who was buried.”

We then see the second interview with Kelli. Again, there’s more dishonesty.

Kelli states: “I was asked to pretend I didn’t know any of the information for effect so that viewers could have the sense of the story unfolding, the way it had to us. ‘There would be no harm in presenting it again as though they made the discoveries on their own as they were the ones who ordered the accident report.’ It was genuine when I asked about the head injury. They didn’t tell me about Bill’s decapitation and they never let us see the report, so I don’t know it is actually true.”

The Messenger, Part 3

We now come to the second Dead Time and the chaos and deception that raged throughout that entire event.

Point 1 - According to Kelli, Dead Time didn’t take place at 3 AM, but began at 11:30 and ended around 1:30.
Point 2 – When Michelle asked Kelli ‘did she hear that?’ Kelli goes ‘Uh Huh.’ But the scene is spliced to make it look as though she uttered that.
Point 3 – Notice how hyper Chip is getting about the movement in the kitchen. Yet neither he nor Ryan check it out. WHY? Observe their physical mannerisms – these men are both frightened.
Point 4 – The table moving is made into a big deal. According to Kelli, this is not uncommon at all. It really doesn’t move, it just vibrates.
Point 5 – The lesson that Paranormal State learned in the Hell’s Gate episode, is that if you fake things long enough you will eventually run into the real deal.
Point 6 – Chip and Ryan go down the hall and go into the guest bedroom. Ryan picks up a cold spot 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the area. They flip on the light and an outline of a person is seen by only Chip and Ryan.

Concerning point 6, this would be amazing if true but it’s not. The cold spot, which is alleged to be a ghost? Or a demon? Or maybe a vortex to the other side? No, none of those things. It’s a cold can of beer placed there by PRS.

Kelli states: “This entity frightened the PRS team and terrified Chip Coffey who refused to deal with it. Chip had me deal with it and hid in a chair in my living room. You can see me in the hallway in the show, but they pieced together dialogue to make it appear I was evicting our ghost, Bill Wells. The PRS crew ‘faked’ cold spots in our home. They explained to us that they were using a six-pack of beer to attract Bill and draw him out so they could photograph him. I thought it seemed ridiculous and said as much to the producer, Sumit David, who explained to us, ‘I really just think it's about young college kids getting a hold of a six pack...’

After the episode was aired, I realized the ‘Cold Spot’ Ryan and Chip were ‘discovering’ in our guest room was one of the Budweiser cans! If you are forewarned you can actually see that it is a can of beer on the monitor which appears to be a glowing red orb. I did save these beer cans with their fingerprints in the event they wish to deny their actions.

I confronted Sumit David on the phone asking why they aired such a deception. He responded by explaining that ‘Ryan thought he was really onto something and he appeared so sincere that they left it in because Ryan's fans really enjoy his innocent on-air persona of sincerity and devotion to his quest...’ I didn't understand why my spirit guide directed me to save the beer cans as evidence. She is never wrong and when she told me I would need them I didn't question it.”

Kelli states: “I told Sumit how angry Bill was becoming and that he was capable of doing harm. And what were they discovering about the angry entity in the hallway? What were they going to do about it? Every time I asked, I was told only that, ‘They have a few ideas about what to do. They’re still deciding what approach to take with it.’ Again I asked Sumit why they needed beer to draw Bill out when he was happy to show himself if they would just let him give his message. Sumit said he simply thought the beer was more about a bunch of college kids getting their hands on a six-pack. I was so tired of getting non-answers I quit asking questions. That night at dead time Riley was asked to stay outside with the support crew. I was asked to help set up the sitting room and was told Riley would be coming in after we were through setting up. You need to know these details because what is on film is so pieced together and voiced over and edited so deceptively, it was difficult for us to recognize which parts were which. We could recognize the video, but the audio didn’t match.”

Kelli states: “I don't know about any of their noises in the kitchen or elsewhere during Dead Time or any other time. I did not experience any of the noise phenomena they were picking up in the two years we have lived here. Our noises are different and nothing has changed. The table moving is real. That phenomenon is a common one in our home. The table does not actually move, it undulates like waves making a boat rock. Our house is in a place where the other side and our world have very little separation. That veil, like an ozone is not very defined on our property. We live in a type of portal between us and the other side. Our house sits on top of an underground stream which connects to Hunter Creek. Where Taylor Creek and Hunter Creek meet forms a kind of meridian and that is where our house sits. Put in a channeling medium and you have paranormal Disneyland when you are inside the house. This scared Chip Coffey so much he would not deal with the entity in the hallway after Bill, our ghost, was so angry over what Chip did. He rushed out and lunged at Chip scaring him badly. You can see this on the second Dead Time when Chip has his hand in front of his mouth and is hiding in a leather chair looking at me in the hallway. Michelle Belanger had an argument with Chip during that Dead Time explaining I was the real deal unlike him. Michelle knows this as I spent only a small time with her and discussed with her a secret she says no psychic she has ever been with has ever picked up. I called Chip a fraud. Michelle stood up and told Chip I was the read deal, a real medium, not like him who was faking it. The camera rolled the entire time. Look at Michelle’s face. At one point she simply looks disgusted and quit participating.”

Kelli states: “The second night Dead Time was about 11:30 to 1:30 AM with the break for the huge fiasco that did not appear on tape. Chip Coffey was so afraid after Bill rushed out to defend me against Chip's terrible attack directed at me and my family. In our interview with Katrina before they arrived Katrina asked me to list the names, relationships and birth and death dates of all my deceased family members who have died in the last 10 years. Chip was claiming the evil entity in the hallway was my dead grandfather and that he had sexually abused me as a child. This is utterly ridiculous and untrue. That was when I called Chip Coffey a fraud and Chip responded with such abusive, intimidating and belittling language and demeanor in his attempt show me he was right about the abuse that I probably sublimated and that was why I couldn't remember. I told him I don't intimidate that easily and his incompetent bullying tactics would not work on me. I am a medical hypnotherapist of some repute and my biography is in the Marquis Who's Who. You can go to any public library or newspaper and log onto the Marquis Who's Who on the Web. I am listed Kelli Lorraine Ryan, DOB 062657. This is the most authoritative biographical data in the world and each fact is verified. He still wouldn't back down and Michelle Belanger came to my defense and started having a yelling match with him. Ryan stepped in and finally pulled everyone to a neutral corner and took me outside to calm everybody down. Ryan and I were the only ones who did not lose their cool. Ryan never raised his voice, but he was so filled with anxiety he was almost shaking. He had a very hard time keeping Chip under control. They have a very enmeshed and unhealthy relationship. They need each other and cover for each other and conspire together and yet just under the surface you can see how much they are threatened by each other and how much jealousy and contempt they have for each other. It would take very little pushing to get them to turn on each other. They would easily blame the other for all the deception.”

Let’s go back to the cold spot for a second. Did PRS or PS or even Ryan come out and admit it publicly, that they faked a cold spot, which would be the honorable thing for them to do. No. Ryan Buell, Director/Founder of Penn State PRS, who cites the motto: "To Trust, Honor, and Always Seek the Truth." On his forum can’t even tell the truth about the cold spot on the bed. First he claims that he hasn’t viewed the episode. Then he claims that the cold spot is an object that has been refrigerated. He later says he’ll get back to the questioner about the subject—but never does. Did Chip say anything? No. Did anyone from PRS or A&E say anything? No.

Clearly notice that both Chip and Ryan have frightened looks on their faces and everyone has fled from the living room. As much out of fear of the entity in the hallway and the anger and disrespect that Chip was showing towards Kelli.

The viewer is given the impression that Kelli is asking Bill to leave – which is not true. She’s trying to get the dark entity to leave and no one comes to her aid. Not Chip, Ryan, or the occult specialist, Eilfie. Nor do they offer to call in a expert in this field, not even a local priest or minister. Because it’s all about them looking good and everybody else be damned.

Kelli states: “PRS say they are PARANORMAL RESEARCHERS and expressed no interest in many of the real phenomenon they recorded [on our property]. Ryan picked up the spirits in the forest on his IFR and didn't bother to put that in. Does that indicate interest in the paranormal?”

I wish I could say that the deception ended there. But there are even more lies yet to be revealed. The first is the EVP from the last Dead Time. What it is from is a ham radio operator that is located nearby. So there was no “paranormal event” recorded at all. The second lie is that Bill did have a message to deliver to not only Jim, his beloved friend who survived the accident, but to the entire community of Gold Beach. That was one of the purposes, supposedly, of Ryan and Paranormal State showing up, was to assist Kelli in getting The Message out. But did it? No, it ended up on the cutting room floor.

The next deception is the supposed final interview between Kelli, Riley, and Ryan. Is that the way it really happened? And is she really thanking Ryan for all his efforts of the past few days?

Kelli states: “You see me thanking Ryan gratefully and tearfully for his help right after I was able to deliver Bill's message to his friend and town about what really happened in his accident. My relief moved me to tears because Riley finally felt relief after three nights of AM bedtimes and three hours of sleep per night not one meal sitting down mostly orange juice and bananas I was sleep deprived and exhausted and so grateful for the experience to be over it showed on camera. Bill's message wound up on the cutting room floor.

More deceptions occurred even after they left surrounding the letter writing. During filming they made me recreate many things they said they would put in the beginning montage. During these recreations they were always trying to get me to scream or do something dramatic to show how terrifying the experiences were. They were disappointed when I told them I usually just froze when these things happened. They wanted me to do dramatic things to help the audience understand how horrifying the experiences were for their benefit. I told them it wouldn't be accurate and I didn't want to deceive viewers because it wasn't right. Each time Ben Wolf, the director, would respond by saying, ‘That's really good. You're right. A lot of our subjects aren't as talented as you are and we can't ask them to do this so we felt comfortable asking you...’ Ben Wolf was working from a list of every phenomenon we gave A&E and PRS.”

After the team left, what happened? Did Kelli’s dark entity leave? No. And actually, in some ways, things got worse. That very day that PRS packed up their equipment and left Kelli and Riley’s home, the stirred up dark entity returned to its terrorizing ways. Even with the team still in town, they would not return to their home to offer assistance. Weeks later, when Kelli contacted PRS and PS for follow-up help, what did she get? Sumit David the producer is quoted: "But you did get some help didn't you? So then everything's ok. I'm sure everything will work out." Again, we see the client has value only when the cameras are rolling, but when it’s over, the help is gone.

It wasn’t until Kelli and Riley, with assistance of those outside of the PRS team, discovered who and what the entity was. It was a displaced spirit that when the mountainside had been carved out spirits that were native to the area had been disrupted. This particular spirit had ended up in what is now Kelli and Riley’s home, terrorizing all the people who had owned it, including Bill Wells himself, when he was alive. Eventually, help was obtained and the spirit was effectively dealt with and finally, weeks later, Kelli and Riley had their house back.

But was the deception only limited to things going on in front of the camera? To be honest, a more sinister act of deception was taking off the site of the filming. Throughout the stay within the small town, members of PRS did their best to dig up dirt on both Kelli and Riley. To no avail.

Kelli states: “The A&E producer arrived in town the beginning of the week of filming and all other A&E and PRS crew arrived shortly after with Chip Coffey and Michelle Belanger arriving Tuesday, July 8, 2008. They made their presence conspicuous and certainly raised eyebrows and suspicions amongst the townspeople who began to call me on the phone immediately. They arrived several days before they indicated to us, trying to uncover anything about us they could, hoping to find something unsavory or at least a provocative secret. I can only surmise they were a little disappointed to find out we are pillars of the community and beloved in the town as the newcomers who were so quickly and fondly embraced by the natives of Gold Beach. They discovered people who were also from a small farm town and accustomed to hard work, volunteerism and generously donating time and money.

The director, Ben Wolf, shared in an unguarded moment how no matter how many people in town were asked, ‘and they asked everywhere’ they couldn’t find anyone who said anything other than we were the ‘nicest, kindest people they ever met...’ Why were they trying so hard to look for dirt? I will never really know beyond the persistent feeling that untrustworthy people generally judge others as untrustworthy.”

In addition, the former owners of the property were contacted to be on the show and again, it’s best to read what happens in their own words via email.

Rachelle Schaaf and Mike DeRoest: “Well, as those of you who tuned in to A&E’s Paranormal State last night and watched the “Headless Haunting/The Messenger” YOU DIDN’T SEE US! We were left, I’m afraid, on the cutting room floor – edited out. Bummer! Had to fit those commercial breaks in!

Actually, that’s ok because our experiences were far more tame than what the Ryan’s endured – thank heavens! Paranormal State was looking for the juicy stuff that they could handily craft a story around. I guess stoves, heaters, lights that go on by themselves were not sexy enough for “Reality TV.”

When the producer called us. We did agree to make the trip over to Gold Beach to be interviewed on camera. We spent a few hours hanging around town while the crew tended to some dramatic new development; and then we spent a couple of hours wandering around the house having our conversations recorded with the new home owners and the ghostbusters. And then it didn’t even make it to TV! Mike and I need a better agent.

The story that came out on TV was only a portion of the history of the home and that which lent itself most readily to sensationalism. There were some other wild things that the paranormal experts were tossing around that were way over the top too, I’m glad the public was spared that stuff.

Do I believe in paranormal energies, perhaps ghosts? Yes, I do.
Do I believe in Reality TV? Uh, no.”

And as the final credits roll, listen to the deceptive words that Ryan utters as he strolls along the beach. All those words are empty words, for he knows as well as anyone, that the needs of a client were sacrificed for the personal needs of fame and fortune that both him and Chip Coffey so desperately seek. In closing, Kelli says it best, and I will let her have the final words on this subject.

“On the one hand, people say these shows are just entertainment, it's no big deal. And they are right. But real people's lives are used as the kindling and are used up just as easily. They could simply interview people about their problem and portray it as a dramatized account of the ghosts/demons etc. in these peoples' lives. What they do is offer help to people who are at their most vulnerable and not equipped to handle it. If they had an infestation of rats or bugs they could call a reputable exterminator and hold them accountable for their services rendered. PRS offers themselves up as help with experts and clergy and after they dramatize, fictionalize, and sensationalize some household's problem they walk away and leave these people with whatever haunting, demonic presence or troubling spirit and, in some cases, worsen the problem. After PRS gets what they want the family is left on their own. If a reputable exterminator came to the home, looked at the situation, invited in a few more rats and cockroaches to move in and then walked away that would be illegal. When anyone is on national TV offering themselves as experts the FCC requires truth in advertising. These people are saying they are researchers, helpers, and warriors offering to battle evil paranormal forces. They cannot mix their metaphors. First by saying we're here to help you and follow up, and then, at the end of filming drive off and say you're on your own. After all, this is only entertainment.”

UPDATE: "The Messenger" is no longer available on the Paranormal State DVD of season 2.

OPEN CHALLENGE TO CHIP & RYAN:
Ryan Buell and Chip Coffey are attacking me and my credibility. They are attacking my claim that my readings have never been wrong. I don't claim my readings can never be wrong. I am stating correctly they have never been wrong, past-tense. They have all proven to be correct to this date.

The most telling part of this attack is that they attack me. Two bullies ganging up on a 5' tall, 51 year old grandmother -- that's easy. What is not so easy is attacking the truth. They don't seem to be attacking the truthful evidence. The truth is never that easy to corrupt or fight, it stands on its own. It's much easier for a coward to attack the messenger.

Why haven't they confronted me directly? They have my address, phone number and email. They have been in my home. They used my home to lie to their entire audience and no matter how many times they re-edit the episode to remove their lies, more lies show up on tape until there is nothing left to air. How naive can they be? They aired it once in its entirety. Haven't they heard of DVR? Too many people have saved this show, it won't go away and neither will the memory of their deception. They are only compounding it by attacking me on the Internet and all behind my back.

They used my home to stage their fakery and my crime is that I spoke the truth about it. Chip Coffey has threatened to sue. I pray he does. I would love to show my episode to a judge and the beer cans with their fingerprints and the emails between A&E and me. Let a judge decide who is telling the truth. A judge would also deem their attack of me and my sanity on the Internet LIBEL and award me damages. I am a private citizen who offered their home to these people who abused my trust and attacked me when I told the truth about it TWO CELEBRITIES ATTACKING A PRIVATE CITIZEN. Does the truth threaten them that much? If I were lying they would have a lawyer send me a letter demanding I cease and desist in my lies. No officer of the court would do this after examining the evidence because they would not bully a person who will beat them in court. Please look at my biographical data at your public library. Who's Who on the Web is the original Who's Who started in 1899. It is not a vanity Who's Who imitator. My listing is Kelli Lorraine Ryan, DOB 062657. See what I have accomplished in my life. This data is verified and considered the most authoritative biographical data in the world. What have Chip and Ryan done in their life? You can sample Who's Who free for a week if you don't want to go to the library or newspaper office.

One last lesson on accurate readings: My readings are accurate because I do not embellish the information my guide gives me. I am not afraid to say "I don't know, my guide is not answering." Many psychics are afraid to disappoint so they use their intuition to fill in the blanks. Some psychics get a real high by impressing their client with all their talent so they give a reading to impress and use excuses to say they night have to be patient for it to come to pass. Some psychics want to comfort their client and use logical intuition and pray they give a good reading. Clients don't complain because the psychic cares. My clients come to me for the TRUTH. I have the courage to give exactly what comes through. If very little came through, I would not charge my client. My readings generally take 1 hour and I have volumes of inform nation valuable to my client and answer even more than they come in for. I have my client prepare ahead by writing down their questions and thinking about them before they come to me or call me on the phone for phone readings. I am not afraid to give the information coming from my guide. I know the difference between my guide's message, my thoughts and the clients's hopes. My client wants the TRUTH, not wishful thinking -- they can get that for free. I have never refused to give a reading based on a client's inability to pay. I give that reading as all readings with love in my heart. They generally show their gratitude by sending in referral clients. I am not afraid of giving bad news. The client does not ask a question without being ready to hear the answer, good or bad. I've never had to disappoint a client. I simply am not afraid to admit something is not coming through. So far, I haven't had to. That is the main stumbling block of all psychic readings -- their fear of something not coming through which actually acts like interference. I give classes on improving your psychic abilities and much of the tutorial is on this very aspect of the reading.

Even psychics have questions. I do wonder. Why are two celebrities so unnerved by one little grandmother telling the truth? They can't be afraid of a little grandma, they must be afraid of the truth.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

~ On November 8th I will be analyzing the “I am Six” episode of Paranormal State.

~ Beginning on November 15 I will begin an in-depth analysis of the first season of Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal.

In closing, for all those who have been contacting me and talking off the record, I hope you now can see that you’re not alone and that there are others who have been used as well by the hands of other people’s quests for fame and fortune.

THE PARANORMAL MOMENT OF TRUTH CHALLENGE

Dear Ryan Buell, Chip Coffey, Lorraine Warren, Sandra & Keith Johnson, Dr. Ron Milione, Tony Spera, Shannon & Jeff Sylvia, C.J. Sellers, Chris Moon, Michelle Belanger, Chad Calek, Michael & Marti Parry, Mark & Debby Constantino, Kim Russo, and David Schrader:

I have expressed concerns about how you conduct your investigations and the validity of those investigations, where anyone with a clear and discerning eye can see that they are not authentic. I have also witnessed heavy-handed tactics being used against people who question your alleged authority within the paranormal community and dared to raise questions concerning the validity of appearing on the A&E shows, Paranormal State, and Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal. I can no longer sit by in silence. That is why I came up with The Paranormal Moment of Truth Challenge, which will benefit you, your organization, the paranormal field, and a charity that would be assisted from the donation of the prize money.

1 ~ It would silence your critics if you are determined to be telling the truth about all your claims and how they are presented. There can be no one left to challenge your honesty and integrity.

2 ~ It would not only benefit your organization, but it would also help the entire paranormal field. Because if such evidence is true, it will be brought to a much wider audience, which hopefully would fuel additional legitimate investigations. So it’s a win-win situation for everyone.

3 ~ The charity of your choice would have the prize money donated to them. If the truth is being told, that prize money could reach $500,000.

So, what is The Paranormal Moment of Truth Challenge? I am sure you’ve heard of the Fox Network program entitled The Moment of Truth. This is where a contestant is hooked up to a lie detector test and asked 50 questions, of which 21 of them are used on the actual show. As long as you tell the truth, you keep on winning money -- up to $500,000. The production company, Lighthearted Entertainment Inc., would jump at an opportunity of doing a show with the two of you. And I will put my personal credibility on the line and appear, as well. For if you visit my Free All Spirits page (www.myspace.com/freeallspirits), you’ll notice that I personally make what some would call outlandish claims concerning my work as a Demonologist/Exorcist/Paranormal Investigator/Caring Spiritual Adviser.

If you would like to be "one step closer to the truth" then this is a way to achieve your goal. If interested, please contact me at this email address and I will get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

Your friend in spirit,
Kirby

To date, this is the response that I’ve received from them.

Why not do the show? Only you, the paranormal field, and a charity of your choice would benefit.

INFORMATION REQUEST: If anyone wants to share any information with their experiences involving the PRS, Ryan Buell, Chip Coffey, and any other para-celebrity that has made an appearance on Paranormal State, whether it is good or bad, I would like to read it. Your confidentiality is 100% guaranteed.

NOTE: Please feel free to copy and paste this and place it all over the web. And, unlike any of my other blogs, you can even repost this under your own name!

Eye on the Paranormal – Issue 7

Eye on the Paranormal

Welcome to our latest edition of Eye on the Paranormal. If you’re a fan of Paranormal State and are completely and truly convinced that everything you see on it is real, then be warned that you’ll read only facts here.

EDITORIAL COMMENT:

This week we will do all of Season 2 in preparation for Issue 8 where a PRS insider tells their story.

It had been my original plan to close the Eye after next week. But due to an overwhelming demand I’ve put off closing it for a while, now.

On Saturday, November 8, I will take an up close look at Paranormal State’s latest episode entitled “I Am Six” which focuses on an exorcism performed on a young lady. A reader sent me part of the episode, which I have viewed, and there are things that concern me.

After that, I will spotlight the first season of “Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal.” I, along with numerous others, have had concerns about how things were presented, along with the endangerment of the children who appeared on the show. The entire series deserves a thorough analysis, which should take a couple of weeks. So that should ensure at least four more editions of the Eye on the Paranormal after this week.

Please read the entire blog, as there are two major announcements at the very end.

ASK PRS

Each week we post questions that we would love PRS (Paranormal Research Society) to answer. But we know they never will.

You, my reading audience, are invited to send in questions and we will gladly post them in the following week’s issue. Please send them to my MySpace page email. And please don’t hold your breath waiting for an answer.

Here are the questions so far.

~ As a team, how many cases did PRS investigate off-campus prior to the start of the series?
~ How many cases does PRS investigate on a yearly basis, not including those for the TV series?
~ If you do investigate without the cameras rolling, how often do you invite para-celebrities to take part in such investigations? Or are they only there to make an appearance on the show?
~ What kind of training did Ryan Buell receive in demonology, and how was it that he became active with the local archdiocese?
~ What happened to the people who were part of PRS in the pilot episode but mysteriously disappeared from the series?
~ Why doesn’t PRS feature any of the new kids from the campus club on their current season?
~ Why doesn’t Chip Coffey or PRS do any events that we don’t have to pay to see?
~ Everyone knows that the Frank Box is a fake—why did Ryan Buell use it on the show and continue to stand behind the validity of the device?
~ What happened to the “Lady Vampire” episode? Why did A&E pull it from the broadcast schedule?
~ I noticed that Chip Coffey is doing reading via phone and ask that you send in question before speaking with him...very odd. Shouldn't this be a spontaneous reading?
~ Why are Dead Times routinely filmed before midnight?
~ Why did they change the name of the Requiem episode to Boy and the Barn?

THE MIND OF A “PARANORMAL STATE” ZOMBIE:

Throughout the past week we have kept an “eye” on a particular thread on Paranormal State’s Forum, located in the General Discussion topic area, entitled “The Next Round of Controversy” where there’s a dialogue over the ongoing effort of you know who.

It’s simply amazing to read some of the arguments that the zombie faithful presented over there to anyone that might express support for our efforts or dare question Chip and Ryan. Here are eight varied answers to the question, “Aren’t you concerned that Paranormal State is fake?”

~1 No. Because sometimes TV is fake and sometimes it’s real. And sometimes it’s real, and sometimes it’s fake and if I enjoy it then it doesn’t really matter.
~2 What’s the matter? We all get lied to sometimes!
~3 Hey it’s Dead Time someplace in the world. Every hour the clock strikes 3 AM somewhere.
~4 The clocks are all wrong in the people’s houses. They don’t know how to set them.
~5 Those clocks aren’t real they’re all an optical illusion and they don’t exist.
~6 Chip and Ryan just can’t lie -- they’re Chip and Ryan.
~7 The cases are real but the shows are fake so you can’t get mad at what PRS does.
~8 It’s not PRS’s or Ryan’s fault they turn the episodes over to A&E. A&E re-edits them and messes everything up.

So folks, as you can see, zombies just aren’t found on the big screen, they’re found looking over at the Paranormal State forums, too!

ANALYSIS OF PARANORMAL STATE SEASON 2, EPISODES 21 - 32

We now do an episode-by-episode overview of season 2. As we do, the numerous para-celebrities that make an appearance on the show will be added to the Paranormal Moment of Truth Challenge each week. In this issue, several more names have been added.

GOOD VS. EVIL – Episode 21

This case concerns a couple by the name of Henry and Sandy who reside in Washington, Pennsylvania. They claim that over the past several months, weird and mysterious activity has been taking place. Lights and electrical equipment turn on and off at free will. All religious items are thrown around the house uncontrollably. Someone tapped into their bank account. Someone’s been leaving frozen cats and rats in the yard. And Henry hit his head on the headboard of the bed.

Now it’s interesting to note that while the PRS team is in the house, that none of these things ever happen.

It’s also intriguing that while Ryan is first interviewing the family, it’s clearly nighttime outside, there’s a quick outside shot prior to Dead Time, and the sun is just starting to set. We’re back on the Time Machine again, in Season 2.

A new para-celebrity is added to our list – Chad Calek. Chad, a tech expert, who according to Ryan, has some quite interesting techniques for ghost investigating. But throughout the episode all he can do is sit around and yell at the ghosts.

Dead Time arrives at 3 AM, right? Wrong! Look at the clock behind Ryan and it reads 12:34. Which in actuality is a good thing because they’re able to do a second Dead Time in the same night.

Ryan hears voices but no one else does. Noises in the woods at nighttime, shadows dark at nighttime, gotta be proof of paranormal activity, right?

When Psychic/Medium Chip Coffey arrives on the scene he is wearing a leather jacket. He steps through the door and, voila, the leather jacket is gone!

Notice the first scene in the basement, Chip is taking a look at his script prior to talking. And if Chip is so frightened while in the basement that he wants to get out, why he would say, “Let’s return at night I bet you some interesting things are going to happen.” Was that in the script?

Chip then has to throw around the term Santeria which is never proven in the entire episode, only voodoo activity. Santeria is much different than voodoo.

Now that wouldn’t be production notes that Chip is going over in the living room, would it?

Then Ryan is interviewing the couple again, no wait, it’s from the day before, and he is asking about things that 24 hours later Chip was bringing up. In addition, note that when Ryan and Chip are talking in the living room the lead in shot is down a long hallway. As the camera draws near suddenly day turns to night.

The voodoo doll just happens to be lying in an area where Ryan has to reach in and unerringly finds it.

Another para-celebrity is added when Michelle Belanger is called on for advice concerning the voodoo doll. Now why didn’t they ask Eilfie, their ever-trusty occult specialist about voodoo dolls? They are not deep, dark secrets, and information about them is readily accessible to anyone.

The second Dead Time is an active time for Chip, Chad, and Ryan. Many things in the basement move! Off camera. Things are seen! Off camera. There’s even a growl. Or is it someone’s stomach? They try to manipulate our emotions by shooting in an eerie style but wait a minute, folks, does the second dead time happen to take place at 3 AM? According to their own computer screens it’s happening between one and two, which means, more than likely they filmed both Dead Times in one night.

If there were actually a demon in the house, which there wasn’t, the house blessing that was performed would have done little more than piss it off. And isn’t it interesting that in the final hours of Investigation - Day 3, Ryan is wearing the same shirt that he wore in the beginning of Investigation - Day 1.

Two side notes concerning Season 2: Our man Chip Coffey seems to want more of a center stage role than what he played in the first season.

We are still in the process of verifying this, our phone calls have yet to be returned, but Henry and Sandy are now experiencing so–called demonic activity at an even more intense level than what they initially reported.

FAMILY TIES – Episode 22

This case concerns a family located in Petersburg, Virginia. Parker and Ginny are the parents, and Jimmy is their grown son. Jimmy also happens to be a ghost hunter, although we’re never informed of that during the episode. The claims of the family are that images are seen in the upper floors of a home that is being remodeled.

This episode really doesn’t belong in the paranormal field, but under the field of family counseling. It’s clear that there are emotional issues here that are possibly the root cause of the family members seeing what they have seen. Of course this is never suggested because it’s not as tantalizing as events being paranormal.

Things to be watching for are: 1) Ryan’s jacket appearing and disappearing. 2) Ryan’s dark shirt suddenly turning into a t-shirt, and back to a dark shirt once again.

Psychic/Medium C.J. Sellers shows up and as she wanders through the house we receive such insightful readings from her as: “I see a little girl!” “I see photos!” and, “somebody in this house could have been shot, killed or committed suicide.” Being in a house that’s well over 100 years old you stand a great chance of any of those three types of deaths happening within the law of averages.

Notice on Investigation – Day 2 that both Parker and Ryan are wearing the same clothing from the day before.

The infamous Dead Time was not done on the night of the second day, but the evening of the first day – look at all the clothing that is being worn.

HAUNTED RANCH – Episode 23

This case certainly reminded viewers of the “Shape Shifter” episode from Season 1 and if you watch the two episodes back to back you’ll see very similar elements. A retired military couple, Roger and Janet, down in Hunt, Texas, claim that something mysterious is coming out of the woods and attacking and killing their livestock.

It’s interesting to watch Ryan’s sunglasses appear and reappear on his head

Why does Janet bring up Indian spirits and something has been disturbed when the PRS team first arrives and this information doesn’t come out until more than 24 hours later?

Chip Coffey arrives and as he walks through the house, which, don’t forget, is down in Texas, and he picks up on Native American spirits. Don’t forget, Chip, you are in Texas.

Notice as Chip and Ryan summon their courage and decide to enter the woods on their own. Seems like they’re walking towards a camera, which means that a camera crew had to go in the same area before they did. It was not a spontaneous act but a planned act.

And Chip’s sixth sense is really on overdrive this evening because he says there’s something in the woods!

Eilfie and Katrina go to the library and later when asked what they learned, Eilfie informs the team that Roger had been cutting down cedar trees on the property. I am very familiar with libraries; I spend as much time in them as I can. Unfortunately, I’ve never come across the reference book that lists who cut down what trees on what property! How on earth could anyone learn this at the library?

Watch on Investigation – Day 2 as suddenly Ryan’s clothes change back into those he was wearing on Day 1.

Dead Time produces little in the way of activity other than a couple of verbal warnings to look for moving objects. But after all the forewarnings, a chair moves! Or as Chip phrases it, “nudging.” A chair does not nudge, but a person nudges a chair. Was it a Freudian slip by Chip? And our dedicated team of investigators re-enacted the scene for us to prove the “paranormal activity.” But the camera is oddly out of focus. It would have been extremely easy for Chip to nudge the chair with his foot.

SMOKE & SHADOWS – Episode 24

Dennis and Sarah share a home in Parkville, Maryland. They claim that there is wild poltergeist activity within the home; they even produce photographic evidence of such.

Within the entire time the PRS team was in the house we see nothing that matches any of the alleged activity.

Somebody better contact the Penn State Department of Engineering and enroll the PRS tech crew there. Incredibly, they make the statement that copper can’t conduct electricity, which is totally untrue.

When Chip is doing his initial walk-through it sounds as if Chip is reading a list and not speaking fluidly.

Notice during Dead Time that nothing happens outside of where both Chip and Ryan are located and what they alleged to happen are nothing but parlor tricks that were conducted at spiritualist séances back in the early 1900s.

LADY VAMPIRE – Episode 25 [unaired]

This is probably one of the most controversial episodes and yet most secretive episodes that has been filmed to date. Out of respect for the five-year-old girl, I’m not going to analyze this episode. But I do have two questions.

~1 Why did A&E pull the episode two times from its scheduled Monday night airing?
~2 Why is the PRS forum silent about this episode?

HELL’S GATE – Episode 26

In York, Pennsylvania Wes and Jen and their three kids are being terrorized by dark forces.

During the first series of interviews Ryan’s shirts change.

When Chip Coffey arrives it’s daytime and while he walks around the house you clearly see it’s night. Then when Chip rushes out of the home it’s daylight again.

We are introduced to a new device called the Ovilus, which is clearly just one more overpriced [$199.00] gimmick to talk to spirits. Like the phone to the dead. Supposedly, they induce the demon to say “sorry.” Demons don’t have that word within their vocabulary because they can’t conceive of such a concept. In addition, a demon does not need any type of device to talk to someone. If you are in the presence of a demon you will clearly be able to hear its voice.

Out of respect for Wes and his family and the trauma that he has gone through, and is still going through, due to the possession, I am not going to over analyze this episode. But suffice it to say, that if you pretend to deal with such things, eventually you will stumble onto the real thing and luckily there was a priest on hand.

THE LADDER – Episode 27

We go to Shrewsbury, Massachusetts to meet Sandy, who’s the caretaker of her family’s home, which has a long history of ghostly activity. The family is preparing to sell the home and Sandy is concerned about what will happen to the ghost.

Sandy clearly comes across as an emotionally troubled individual. Watch her body language as the PRS team drives up. Also, she repeatedly says, “Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God!” That is often the sign of a troubled person. Additionally, she has an emotional bond with the ghost because the ghost is her man.

3:15 PM they are doing family interviews yet it’s dark in some scenes and light in others.

Some of the family members have had frightening encounters with the entity, it’s apparent that there’s more than one entity, but the team never follow up on that.

We are led to believe that the family had been in the home since 1965, which is 43 years, and nobody once has ever asked about the property’s history.

Sandy’s stories seem to change when it comes to the number and how often she has dreamed of Edwards the ghost.

We add to our growing list of para-celebrities who’ve appeared on Paranormal State, Psychic/Mediums Michael and Marti Parry. Listen to what Michael says as he is in Sandy’s childhood bedroom: “When I got to the top of the stairs they told me to go to the first room on the left.” Is he referring to the off camera presence at the top of the stairs? He notes “bangs, knocking, man here…” he must’ve really been under Chip‘s tutelage as his gifts are working full blast. But even more amazing is when he’s talking to Ryan and Sandy. Michael first holds a small notebook in his hands and then suddenly it changes into note cards! From the producers, maybe? Talking points, probably. Which is why he says about Edwards, “he fell off the roof.”

When Eilfie goes off to the library to do her investigation she is wearing one outfit but when she arrives to tell Ryan her finding of how Edwards died, she is wearing a different outfit and Ryan is wearing the same outfit from the first day. They knew who Edwards was and how he died on Day 1. They told the Parrys the whole story on the first day. The Parrys just repeated the story on the evening of the first day. This is what is called a Gotcha moment! It gets even worse for the show. You see the interview with Sandy when Ryan asks her how Edwards died from Day 1 and Sandy then tries to act surprised when the Parrys bring it up on the evening of Day 1.

When Sandy has the portrait drawn, notice her body language; the portrait and the ghost have become the man that she is in love with in her mind. No attempt by the team is ever shown of verifying who is this Edwards?

Dead Time doesn’t take place on Day 3 but probably on the evening of Day 1. Of course there is little that happens that we see directly, notice Heather’s reaction to the noise in the basement and one would have to wonder how does Sandy know where the noise was taking place that Heather heard?

THE MESSENGER – Episode 28

In Oregon, Kelli and Riley purchased a home and since they have moved in they have noticed ghosts running around, including one with no head. It tosses things around the kitchen, which is never followed up on.

Why does Ryan stop and look at himself in the bathroom mirror? Not just a short passing glance, but a gazing, loving look at his image?

When Ryan interviews the couple separately, day changes into night, night into day, and his clothing also changes.

Michelle Belanger arrives to supposedly create a vortex of energy, but after many viewings I don’t understand what the heck she is talking about or even doing there.

Dead Time #1 doesn’t take place at 3 AM they get an early jump and it goes from 1 AM to 2 AM, not sure when Dead Time #2 takes place but the only thing that comes from that is that Chip and Ryan claim they see an image on the bed. Of course we never do.

HIDE & SEEK – Episode 29

Again, in respect to the fact that a child is involved in this case, I will refrain from a thorough analysis. But there are three points that I will note here:

~1 Psychic Kim Russo develops a story concerning an adult male who not only sexually molested a little girl by the name of Abigail, but killed her. There is even an implication that he did this more than once. This was all said and done with no factual basis whatsoever outside of her feeling that people played hide and seek within the house.
~2 EVP experts Mark & Debby Constantino really produced no measurable results in their extensive EVP session.
~3 Ryan’s growing obsession with using the term shadow man or dark man as in reference to the Season 1’s Dark man episode, the Messenger in Season 2, and of course in this episode.

THE GLOVE – Episode 30

We meet a young couple, Eric and Lisa, and their three children who live in Daisytown, Pennsylvania. The case concerns the appearance of a male figure within the house that seems threatening to the females there. Joining the cast of intrepid investigators are Chad Calek and Michelle Belanger.

Michelle proves that she attended the Chip Coffey School of Obvious Psychic Readings. It’s extremely easy to understand how she came up with what she comes up with, because she’s in the heart of coalmining country. She talks of a strict disciplinarian, alcoholic male figure, which is not a stretch of the imagination.

We are quickly introduced to our first piece of fake evidence of a gloved handprint on the wall. Notice how Michelle sells this, as to the way in which she stands against the wall. This is a very uncomfortable, as well as unnatural, stance. She emphasizes that her hands are planted firmly against the wall far lower than the gloved handprint. So you have Michelle playing her part in the con. Chad plays his role as the enthusiastic expert by emphasizing how large the handprint is and how Michelle couldn’t have possibly been responsible for its appearance.

So, our intrepid team of inquisitive researchers reenacted the event. If a person places their hand in an oversized glove and grasps something that is cold, such as a can or bottle of beer, soda, or water, holds it for an extended period of time, then presses it firmly against the wall, allowing that area to absorb the cold, then quickly videotape it, you’ll produce the same result.

The second piece of fake evidence is a series of broken lights during Dead Time, or so we are told they break. We don’t actually see them. Closely observe Michelle’s head when the glass begins to break -- it’s a reaction of a person who is anticipating the event. Actually it’s only one glass breaking, they replay the same sound twice and just shoot the glass from a different angle.

THE FIRE – Episode 31

After repeatedly watching this episode our team decided the best thing to say about this is to say nothing. Because northing happens. It’s simply a repeat of the Vegas episode of Season 1 where you had a murder victim coming to you and nobody even bothers to ask the victim directly three simple words: who killed you? Enough said.

FIRST CONTACT – Episode 32

PRS visits the famous Gilliland Ranch in Trout Lake, Washington known for UFO and possible alien as well Sasquatch contact points. Yes, you too can pay several hundred bucks to sit in the dark on plastic chairs out in the middle of the woods and watch things fly around the sky that may or may not be UFO’s at all.

Ryan Buell keeps using the term “Paranormal Central.” Do they have angels, demons, poltergeists, and leprechauns floating around?

We are told by the owner, James Gilliland, that some high ranking government officials and folks that not only have one, not only two, but three PhD’s have visited the ranch and said that everything there defied explanation. Now of course we couldn’t get any names, not three, two, one, just zero.

David Schrader, ghost hunter and Internet radio talk show host on Darkness Radio, claims that things have happened to him at the Gilliland Ranch. Of course there’s no evidence like photos or proof of sightings of aliens or Sasquatch.

We keep hearing the phrase “I am not the only one” repeated time after time in this episode. Could this be an upcoming paranormal song in the making?

Chad Calek tags along so he can try to intimidate the spacecraft into responding to his commands.

Next, we learn that if the unidentified object in the sky is not on the NASA web site then it’s proof that it’s an alien spacecraft. Can anyone say top-secret government satellites?

Of course there has to be something sighted in the woods, and as always, nothing is found.

A dazed and confused Psychic/Medium Chip Coffey drives up in a car where he is the sole occupant and he has “NO IDEA” where he is at. So how did he get there?

Now why not do Dead Time at 3 AM? No wait, they’re more used to doing it at ten or eleven.

We learn that alien spacecraft love hearing drums. Or do they assume the occupants of the alien spacecraft respond to drumming noises? Then shouldn’t they be hanging out at parade routes, football games, rock & roll concerts, and strip clubs? If they’re so attracted to the positive activity that was taking place, why didn’t any of them come closer to the participants?

So readers, we have come to the end of our journey. Season 1 and 2 are done. OK, now it’s time for the big announcements that I’ve promised.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

~ I’ve promised you a Paranormal State insider that was going to tell the truth. Many have said I can’t produce such a person[s] and even PRS has said on their forum that I have been lying. Well, the whole world can hear the insider for themselves this coming Wednesday, October 29 at 10 PM Central time on the Ghost Divas Para-X radio show online. Both the insider and myself will be on the show exposing the whole sad story.

~ Chip Coffey and Ryan Buell will be receiving personal invitations to appear on the show, so they might be able to explain their conduct and the conduct of PRS.

Eye on the Paranormal – Issue 6

Eye on the Paranormal

Welcome to our latest edition of Eye on the Paranormal. We are reaching the final issues of this series. If you’re a fan of Paranormal State and are completely and truly convinced that everything you see on it is real, then be warned that you’ll read only facts here.

Dear Readers,
It has come to my attention through various sources and personal emails that many of you are upset with this series of blogs. Why? It seems that the subject matter, my tone, and accusations that I am simply jealous of other people’s success.

I’m deeply sorry if these blogs have upset anyone. That is not my intent or reason behind them. That being said, just because I write Eye on the Paranormal doesn’t mean that you have to read it. If it upsets you or offends you then skip it and come back for my Monday and Thursday teachings. Or feel free to pray or receive prayers in my Weekly World Wide Prayer Circle each Wednesday. If none of the above interests you, then walk away from my blogs altogether. I’m not here to placate others. I’ve never lived that way, nor would I want to.

I don’t dislike Ryan Buell, Chip Coffey, PRS, or Paranormal State. What I dislike is deception, distortion, and people who think they are getting helped but end up getting used. As to fame and fortune of others both of those are brief and fleeting. And when we die and go where we each personally feel that we go, our level of fame and fortune in this life will not help us at all. What will help us is did we love? Did we show compassion? Did we pursue the truth? Did we protect others? And did we fight the good fight of faith?

What I’m doing in this series is what any good lawyer should attempt to do in a case -- establish a clear consistent pattern of behavior. If you’ve read my previous blogs, you’ll notice an absence of name-calling and false accusations. I’m here solely to present the truth.

There will be one more blog that will cover season 2 and the final edition is when the words will come from the horse’s mouth themselves. And this series of blogs will come to a completion.

Your friend in spirit,
Kirby

P.S. Some have said that I’m devoting far too much of my time and effort to this series. All the investigation was done by others who diligently spent their time analyzing DVD’s, making phone calls, and doing the footwork. They feed me the information and I put the narratives together. This would be far too big of a project for one person to tackle alone.

ASK PRS

Each week we will post questions that we would love PRS (Paranormal Research Society) to answer. But we know they never will.

You, my reading audience, are invited to send in questions and we will gladly post them in the following week’s issue. Please send them to my MySpace page email. And please don’t hold your breath waiting for an answer.

Secondly, as we move through both seasons of “Paranormal State,” we will be adding additional names of so-called para-celebrities who have made an appearance on either season of the show to our “Paranormal Moment of Truth Challenge.”

New questions:

~ Why are Dead Times routinely filmed before midnight?
~ What happened to the demon episode that took place in Illinois?
~ Why did they change the name of the Requiem episode to Boy and the barn?

THE MAILBAG:

This is a comment from Issue 5 – “If you scroll up a little, one of your responses says, "And a demonic haunting is not that common." But, now you are saying that you "have encounters with demons on a daily basis." Not bashing you, but this seems contradictory and I would like you to elaborate. Are these demons just wondering the earth aimlessly and not haunting anyone? If so, how do you come across them?
Be well, David”

Dear David,
Thank you for bringing this up. In my work both in my private cases and the cases I come into contact with through various religious denominations I’m a part of, I encounter demonic activity daily.

A demonic haunting is uncommon. Ask your average ghost hunter and see how many haunting cases happen to fall into the demonic category. They will tell you in their lifetime they encounter few, if any.

A demon seeks to possess souls of humans: their bodies, minds, and spirits. If not human, then animal. A demon is rewarded for this especially if the living sentient being they are possessing dies while possessed. But they get no reward for haunting the physical area -- that only brings them unwanted attention. Demons are smart and cunning entities and they do not invite unwanted attention.

If a demonic spirit is in a physical area it’s not interested in haunting but it is interested in pursing a person in that area. A demonic haunting is vastly different from a ghostly one. When you encounter a demonic haunting you will know it. Large objects fly through the room, time is altered, it may be night outside, but it’ll feel like day inside, and vice versa. There is a terrible pervasive stench, loud disembodied voices can be heard, wind comes from nowhere, etc. You don’t need any kind of meters, monitors, records, mediums, or cameras to pick up this activity – it is clearly visible to the naked eye.

In no episode of Season 1 of Paranormal State did they encounter such a case.

Yes, demons do roam the earth as they are always looking for fair game, an invitation, and entrance into a person’s life. Also, there are demons assigned to municipalities, states, and nations, even families seeking to manipulate situations to their advantage.

Demons are attracted to people who work in the field of deliverance and exorcism and even those who call themselves demonologists. If they can cause us harm or force us out of the field, there are big rewards assured to them.

P.S. It’s just not the reward the demon is seeking, if the demon doesn’t bring in fresh souls they face swift and certain punishment.

Your friend in spirit,
Kirby

PARANORMAL STATE BLOOPERS!

Folks, please share with us any bloopers you find in any episode, any season! At the end of this blog series we’ll have a look and see which episode will be receiving the Big Blooper Award for the largest number of bloopers.

ANALYSIS OF PARANORMAL STATE SEASON 1, EPISODES 14-20

We now continue to do an episode-by-episode overview of season 1. As we do, the numerous para-celebrities that make an appearance on the show will be added to the Paranormal Moment of Truth Challenge each week. In this issue, two more names have been added.

THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW – Episode 14

This case concerns an investigation of a home in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area that was used at one time on the Underground Railroad. A Caucasian family, Peter and Kim Sokolowski, and their daughter Ally now inhabit it. Ally has an African-American boyfriend, Larry Jones, who claims to have seen an African-American woman in the window. The PRS team arrives at 7:16 PM. Ryan has on a blue t-shirt under a black zip-front sweatshirt while in the living room. The next scene in the kitchen he is now wearing a heavier jacket. And then in one shot the jacket disappears and is replaced by a black t-shirt.

We are next shown an outside shot of the house and it’s 8:29 PM, but the problem is it’s lighter at this time than it was at 7:16 PM.

We’re then told that it’s 9:15 PM when they begin to investigate the attic. Yet there is sunlight shining through the windows and then there’s a shot of twilight time. This could get wild, folks!

Next, it’s 10:16 PM and Ryan has showered and has new clothes on and is ready to climb into the tunnels, which no one has been in for years. But somehow the tunnels are layered in plastic and lights have been set up inside. So it’s clear to anyone that the tunnels had been investigated prior to Ryan going in. And a few feet into the tunnel Ryan discovers a hidden treasure that would make Indiana Jones envious. It’s a pile of historic artifacts, we are told. Just waiting for PRS to discover them.

When they show Larry the photo lineup, which is done better than they have in the past, does he say, “Yes, that’s her”? Or, “It’s her, it’s her”? as Ryan wants us to think? No, he simply says this one looks more like her, not 100% identification.

Psychic C.J. Sellers arrives in the middle of the day so we must assume that we are in Investigation - Day 3, right? Not according to Paranormal State, it’s only Investigation – Day 2.

Dead Time is 3 AM, but on the wall over the PC monitor the clock reads 12:23 AM. There are continuing errors, but due to covering many episodes, let’s not give us too much of a headache yet.

THE BOY AND THE BARN [A/K/A REQUIEM]– Episode 15

A farming family in rural Pennsylvania Glenn and Susan Warren and their daughter, Kristy, is being haunted in their home. There is also strange activity taking place in the barn.

The first really interesting thing after a very lifeless Dead Time that allegedly ends at 4:07 AM, is when Chip Coffey arrives at 4:47 AM. As soon as he enters the home sunlight is streaming through the window in one of the shots. The rest of the shots are at night. Why is this?

Also, this is the first episode of many to come where Chip starts offering complete stories with little or no proof. He also begins to swear. If you notice when Chip and Ryan are talking in the barnyard Ryan is working hard to keep his grin in control as he anticipates Chip’s verbal zinger that is to come.

Dead Time #2, which doesn’t take place at 3 AM, as we’ll see later, but we’re told of opening and closing doors, etc. Yet we never see any paranormal activity. If you watch closely you’ll see a clock over Ryan’s shoulder that reads 6:55. If you believe the show’s storyline they make the poor family sit up until 4:18 AM for a conference? Did the meeting really take place at 4:18? No, not likely, it must’ve been much earlier than that.

This episode also marks a new direction for the show, with both Ryan and Chip selling a story that they pulled together from the alpha waves about the spirits in the house. We will see later on in our series of investigations of both seasons, how this has dire consequences.

THE SENSITIVE – Episode 16

A note to the reader—this episode is clearly a forerunner to Chip’s own series, Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal, which was produced by the same production company. Also reflect on a particular episode entitled ‘The Demon House’ and how much Alexa from that episode reminds you of Liana in this episode.

Janice and Joe Altieri of Allentown, Pennsylvania are concerned about paranormal activity taking place in their house but we never really understand what the activity is. Of course, after Ryan first meets the teenage daughter Liana, a Paris Hilton look-alike, he begins tossing the word possession around when there’s clearly no activity to justify that.

EMF spikes are noted but aren’t ever followed up on later at any point in this episode.

Dead Time is at 3 AM to 4 AM, right? Well according to Heather’s meter it’s 11 PM or so. They go to the craft room Katrina says she doesn’t like the room. Ryan asks why? She says “that door.” Points to the closet door. Now Ryan goes over, opens it, and Good Golly Miss Molly, a cameraman is stationed inside meaning the shot was scripted, planned, and therefore not real.

Chip Coffey is called in. Chip has to toss into the mix mediumship which makes you think he’s prepping for Psychic Kids, his six part summer series. Then he comes up with a dead African-American girl involved in the occult, of which they never produce any proof. The walk through happens around 7:55 PM according to a clock on the wall. Will our trusty PRS team hold out till Dead Time? Nah, they just pushed Dead Time up to the pre-midnight hour as evidenced by a digital clock that reads 11:31. It’s next to a suddenly messed up bed, something that is not caught on camera, which somehow Chip and Ryan think is proof of paranormal activity.

But if you still need more proof that the Dead Time didn’t take place from 3-4, watch closely as they study the activity of Dead Time -- one of the events is marked at 12:40 AM. And we’re led to believe that Ryan has been wearing the same t-shirt for up to 24 hours.

Another error that’s more procedural than anything--could someone please tell Chip that young spirits do not have to talk in sing song voices?

We are told that it’s 8:41 AM Investigation Day 4, yet if you look closely, when Chip, Ryan and Liana are in the dining room, it’s night time outside as evidenced by the darkened windows.

It’s also interesting to note that the family doesn’t change clothing until after 6 PM. Liana and her mother stay in the same outfit for one entire alleged 24-hour day.

MOTHMAN – Episode 17

This case focuses on PRS’s and Chip Coffey’s two-day investigation into the Mothman phenomenon. I happen to believe in the Mothman due to his continual appearances being associated with tragic events that happen simultaneously or shortly after his appearance, and that he is a Messenger of Doom.

It’s 1:33 PM when a t-shirt wearing Ryan rolls into Point Pleasant, West Virginia, according to the caption.

But when Ryan walks into the Mothman Musuem he’s wearing a suit jacket and a button down shirt. What is even more amazing, is that according to a clock on the wall it’s 12:08. Talk about time warp, baby! But buckle up, it gets even better.

Now I’m not sure which timeline to believe in, because if I buy Paranormal State’s one, then Ryan is Superman. Because only Superman could roll into town, change clothes, dash to the Mothman Museum, take the grand tour, studying the props and memorabilia from the movie ‘The Mothman Prophecies,’ look into the history of the Mothman phenomenon, and watch documentaries about the subject in the visual media room. Ryan then dashes off to an interview that takes place at 1:47, not even showing a sign of sweat. Supernatural, to say the least.

Now I can’t say if Dead Time was at 3 AM or not. But assuming that the team would have rested prior to filming Dead Time at it’s supposed time, why would Ryan be wearing a suit jacket and tie to perform the investigation?

Chip Coffey’s again ready to make outlandish comments and statements offering no visible proof whatsoever to back them up. He says things that any normal person would feel at the site of the Silver Bridge collapse.

One wonders why Chip feels a need to wear lipstick, and Chip must know something that I don’t know because he states, “IF I die.”

Chip does a big flip flop as he states early in the interview that everyone was at peace and accepted their fates and that death was swift for those killed on the bridge. Then he walked just a few feet down the river bank and states that he feels a lot of confusion, dread, fear, terror. You can’t have it both ways, folks.

Now we jump to Investigation - Day 2, and it’s many hours after Dead Time. Ryan’s still wearing the same shirt and tie and he stays in this outfit until the end of the day – supposedly.

Although the team only learns about the TNT plant after their arrival we’re shown a scene of Ryan interviewing the museum owner about it. How can that be if they didn’t know the whole story prior to their arrival?

Now we come to a Chip “Place My Foot Into Thy Mouth” Coffey scene. We are told that the merry band of PRS investigators, is drawn by who knows what, into a deep, dark formerly secret base operated by the U.S. Navy. Of course Chip has to say something sinister happened there and doesn’t tell us what. But there’s still more to come. Their batteries suddenly begin to run low and Chip states, “the guy who shot out here during the day said that there are areas that suck your batteries dry.” Now a few moments earlier we were told they didn’t know for sure where they were headed down the dark paths. And if you notice, Ryan is wearing the outfit that he had on the first day of the investigation.

Chip then makes a bold statement that the Mothman had nothing to do with the bridge collapse but the surprises aren’t over yet. Suddenly Chip and Ryan are back at the riverside from the night before wearing the same outfits that they had on the night before, talking about information that they supposedly did not know the night before. This time warp stuff is just amazing. Chip and Ryan need to package it and sell it. They had to have had a script that told them where the story/ plotline was headed.

The next scene we have Eilfie discussing the case and subtitles are shown. Ryan, in his previous day’s outfit, says that there would never be a conclusion to this case.

FRESHMAN FEAR – Episode 18

This episode is merely an excuse to sell the series to its demographic audience of 12-25 year olds. It’s merely about a young lady seeing ghosts in her dorm room.

One interesting thing to note is that Katrina plays a reporter who’s interviewing Ryan over the phone. Don’t believe me; match it up for yourself with her voice from previous episodes. Or talk to her over the phone yourself. It’s her.

This episode is also used to establish the idea in people’s minds that PRS is tied to Penn State University in some official capacity – which it’s not.

THE KNICKERBOCKER – Episode 19

The Knickerbocker Hotel in Linesville, Pennsylvania is owned by Pat & Mryle Knickerbocker, who claim paranormal activity and strange things happened to people who attended séances there. The usual Paranormal State tricks are evident throughout this episode, but I’m starting to feel like I’m beating a dead horse, so I’ll just cover them superficially.

One thing to note during the first Dead Time that where tech headquarters is located in a room with a window that is letting in daylight, and one of Heather’s gadgets reads 11 pm. These two shots do not match Dead Time being between the alleged 3 AM to 4 AM hour.

C.J. Sellers, psychic/medium comes up with such unique names for a woman as Kate or Katherine, and that the woman is wearing a white dress or gown. This is hardly an uncommon outfit for a woman or a very uncommon name to pull out of the air.

THE ASYLUM – Episode 20

Out of respect for the people who were housed, tortured, and died at Willard Mental Institution, I’m not going to spend a lot of time describing the situation. But there are a few things that I must point out.

We are introduced to the Frank’s box or the phone to the dead. This is an updated version of the ouija board. If you want to read about it there are numerous places online to do so. It does trouble me when I hear there are less than 50 people on the face of the earth that can operate them, and Chip Coffey happens to be one of them. Better than that, the spirit of Thomas Edison supposedly helped set up the spirit communication.

In reality, you:

~ 1 Hear what you want to hear.
~ 2 The operator is skilled at selling his shtick.
~ 3 You face the possibility of bringing demon entities into the situation.

Here are some examples of Mr. Chris Moon’s deceptive practices within this episode.

Question: How many spirits do we have here?
Answer: “There were seven.”
Seven spirits total out of the thousands of people that were housed at Willard -- there would be only seven spirits communicating? Even Chip Coffey picked up on many spirits at once.
Question: What are the names of the spirits?
Answer: Lucy. [Or is it ‘you see’?]
We get no other names.
Question: Is there anything else here?
Answer: According to Chris Moon there’s a demon. Not only demon, but a strong demon. Listen closely and you’ll hear nothing but static.
Question: Is that what is holding you here?
Answer: According to Chris Moon, Lucy says yes and she is speaking for all the other spirits. But listen folks, that’s not what you hear. And supposedly Lucy is begging for them to come to the basement. Why? I guess they need a change in scenery.

Chris Moon informs us that something bad is down there and shadows are moving. Of course we don’t see anything. Chip Coffey dashes madly around the basement but we never glimpse what he’s pursuing.

Chris Moon reports that a demon is now blocking Lucy and that they might as well leave.

In a later scene Ryan stumbles over his facts when he’s interviewing a gentleman about Lucy. Ryan says: “A psychic picked up on Lucy and this box picked up on Lucy.” Go back and look at that scene as only Chris Moon picked up on Lucy. And it keeps getting worse for Ryan. We cut to an interview with a former nurse, the only issue is that the interview took place the day before and Ryan is asking her about information that they learned after the interview occurred.

We then come to Dead Time. Note how they set up the infamous slap by Lorraine Warren. Chip has removed his glasses so as not to interfere with it. Also, one needs to ask, why tech needs to set up? They’d been in the building for a few days already. Observe that Heather is in one shot next to Ryan, and then she is gone.

Finally, we have Ryan walking on a dark and rainy night carrying an umbrella and a lantern, but suddenly the lantern disappears. Lights out?

We now come to the end of our first stage of our journey.

What have we learned about the acts of deception that PRS and Paranormal State have engaged in?

~1 Dead Time is not performed between 3 and 4 AM. They have repeatedly deceived us, so what else are they deceiving us about?
~2 The program is shot in a linear fashion as in a fictional film or TV show. This means the shots are done out of order, based on a form of a script, so as to tell a story. This is the exact opposite approach that a documentary utilizes. Documentaries are shot as the events unfold.
~3 We have not seen any convincing proof that PRS has yet to encounter and/or effectively deal with any demonic activity.
