There seems to be a bit of controversy about the Jen Arnold hacking story. We have yet to hear back from her agent concerning details of the case. We were informed that FBI agents are about to make arrests. The only new details we can offer come from Jen Arnold's Facebook page. She states her PC's been hacked "100X" [hundreds of times], and she had to pay Yahoo $140.00. We'll update you with any new details when they come in.

Parents, Keep Your Psychic Kids Close! That Teacher Might Have a Big Secret!

One of our hard-working reporters who monitors the pages of our dear fake para-celebs, and the pack of zombies who follow and worship their every word uncovered quite a big secret. One zombie admitted that they allowed their child to be abused by their husband and did nothing about it. Would you allow your child to receive advice from them to develop their gift? Not only does this person lack an appropriate degree to work with kids, psychic or not, but they have no moral authority to do so. Because if they turn a blind eye on their own child's abuse, what would they do with a stranger's child?

We're attacked all the time. Which means we're doing the right thing in exposing frauds. We're called names, told to eat an item one should never consume, and other antics that are meant to distract people from seeing the truth. Most of those people listed aren't on the radio, blog regularly, or have active websites.

Ron Tebo comes back then goes away.

Ghost Divas are no longer on the radio.

Reap Paden [Reap Sow] posts on my blog.

Ghost Hunters Inc. still have Who Forted? but it's not as biting as it was in the past.

Tony is not as active.

And me--yeah still here and happy to fight the good fight. Call me loser if you want but in God's eyes I'm a winner.

They make a big to-do about my appearance on MTV's Rob and Big.

How many times does every para-celeb mention the show/s they are on? At least my one appearance [and have no shame in saying one appearance] was on a top-rated show, not a low rated show, or one that is on the internet only.

They raise the issue of me being a loser because I'm reading a Bible. If these people spent more time reading the Bible, they'd have less time to sit around and call others losers.

This section reminds me of a recent rant that Chip Coffey went on when he appeared on Michelle "Babs" Griffin's internet show, making fun of me going blind. Babs couldn't tell her client to shut up, so she went along with it. Did Chip ever apologize? Nope. Did she? Nope. she has gone so far as to search the internet and attempt to remove every clip, now claiming that it never took place.

One wonders what dinner is like in BABS home. "What did you kids do today?"

Child 1: "I took a blind woman's cane and left her to stumble down the street."

Child 2: "And I told a blind man it was safe to cross the street when there was a red light."

Kids right off the old block, huh Babs?

I'm not ashamed of being blind but whoever is behind the site sure is blind to the love of GOD.

I'm also attacked because I have a gentleman who writes on my blog and goes by the name of Reap Paden. According to this mockery of a site, he might dabble in Satanism.

NOW LET ME PUT THIS IN BOLD CAPS FOR YOU. "WHAT RIGHT DO I HAVE TO JUDGE HIM THE BIBLE SAYS JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED!" Correct?

They go after two of my friends who help out occasionally. So they go after them because they help me? This gives you a right TO JUDGE THEM?

They go after Ron Tebo, but Mr. Tebo doesn't have that site any longer. So you have nothing better to come up with?

They go after Ghost Hunters Inc., a group which have kinda backed away from the cutting edge journalism they used to do… but again, why are they losers?

Ghost Divas are picked on for being overweight. So if you apply their logic, they're losers due to being overweight. What a real class act.

The most recent attack was directed at me for being on Dial-A-Star. Guess they only want people to think and talk like the cowards who run that page do. And by the way, I'm no longer there as a much beloved fake para-celeb had me removed.

Yes, these are the people you bump into when their favorite para-celeb shows up for a convention. So watch out for your wallets and keep your mouth shut or you too will be a victim.

Dalai Lama Speaks to Chinese Students

Rochester, Minnesota, USA, 22 April, 2012 - His Holiness left the city of Long Beach for Rochester, Minnesota. Gaden Shartse Abbot Jamyang Choeden, Geshe Lobsang Tsultrim, Managing Director, and staff of Gaden Shartse Thubten Dhargye Ling saw him off at the airport.

On his arrival in Rochester, several hundred members of the Tibetan community (Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota) had gathered to welcome him. His Holiness went around greeting them and advised them to remain at ease.  His Holiness was received by officials and doctors of Mayo Clinic and thereafter went to address a gathering of more than a 100 Chinese students and scholars studying in in Minnesota, including from St. Olaf College; University of Minnesota; Macalester College; Carleton College; Normandale College; Mayo High School; Winona State University; and Southwest High School.

His Holiness began by talking about everyone of them being the same human being from the one blue planet.  He said if we have such a mindset then we will not see any need to involve in cheating, etc.  His Holiness said Han and Tibetans have sufficient reason to fight. Historically, he said for the past 1000 years or so Tibetan and Chinese emperors specially have had a close relationship, including marital ties.  He said the ties have sometimes been happy ones and at other times problematic.

He said throughout the world things are changing referring to how the European Union has evolved.  In the Tibetan case, the Tibetans have a distinct identity, in cluding our own language and written script, which is closer to the Indian Devnagri script, he said.  We must, however, think of the reality, he said.

His Holiness said it is in the Tibetan people’s own interest to remain within the People’s Republic of China.  However, there should be meaningful autonomy, he said.

His Holiness said the 17 Point Agreement that Tibet had signed with China was in the spirit of one country, two systems. He talked about his visit to China in 1954-55 and his meetings with Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi (who he called as his immediate boss), Zhou Enlai. Etc. His Holiness said he had much interest in Marxism and had expressed his desired to the Chinese Communist Party, but was asked to wait.  He added that although he considers himself a Marxist, he is not a Leninist. He talked about Mao’s interest in Tibet and how he even asked His Holiness to be in direct touch with him.  Subsequently, in 1956, when His Holiness was in India Zhou Enlai and He Long had come on a visit there to meet with Indian officials and also with him. He said that Zhao had a message from Chairman Mao saying that the controversial reforms campaign in Tibet would be postponed for six years, and if needed would be postponed further.  Zhao also told His Holiness as well as the Indian government officials that the Tibetan case is something unique. Gradually, however, Chairman Mao’s own thinking went extreme leftist and the result was the Cultural Revolution.

In Tibet, His Holiness said that some local officials had made a pledge during the Cultural Revolution period that they would exterminate the Tibetan language within 15 years.  He also talked about Chinese Party Secretary of Tibet Autonomous Region, Chen Kuiyuan, banning the study of classical Tibetan texts in Tibet University in Lhasa.

His Holiness said all these were the cause for the 2008 protests in Tibet.  But the Chinese authorities wanted to find a scapegoat and blamed him. He said after the protests in Tibet wherever he went in Europe, the United States, Australia, including here in Rochester, there were demonstrations by Chinese students.

His Holiness had subsequently said that on account of the way the Chinese leadership has been approaching the Tibetan issue, his faith in the Chinese Government had grown thinner although his faith in the Chinese people remained strong.

He said he had told a Chinese friend from Beijing that he had tried his best to work for a solution for the Tibetan issue for the past 30 years but that the Chinese United Front has destroyed his spirit.  He said that since 2001 he had become semi retired following the direct election of Tibetan leadership. Following the devolution of authority in 2011, His Holiness said the new political leadership had happily and gladly supported the Middle Way Approach.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is welcomed by well-wishers on his arrival in Rochester, Minnesota, on April 22, 2012.

His Holiness said China was aspiring to be a super power and if this was done with joy with liberty and freedom, the Tibetan people will feel proud to join. He said so far China is a close and secret society and unpredictable. Thus, neighbors like India, Japan and even Vietnam a Communist country are suspicious. China needs to open up, he said.  His Holiness said the Chinese students are in the United State a free society and so should be able to see for themselves the reality.

He said in the United States, even President Clinton had to undergo legal process when he was in a problem.  Similarly, in Taiwan former President Chen Shuibian came under judicial investigation.  His Holiness said he had written to President Chen then saying that as a friend, he was sad to learn of his situation but on the other hand the development is a testimony to democracy.

Winning The Invisible War - Ephesians 6:10-24

This article is an adaptation of a sermon I did several months ago, and it was based on a sermon that Pastor Jerry Vines presented some 20 years ago, back when the leaders of our churches were occasionally still preaching about spiritual warfare. We need a restoration of this area of preaching and instruction from the pulpit.

Whether you know it or not, if you are a born again Christian, you are in a spiritual war. More than likely, you have been kept in the dark about this war, since many churches have fallen away from teaching and preaching this gospel truth. However, if you spend any time reading the New Testament, studying Christ’s teachings and ministry, as well as the teachings and ministry of the Apostle Paul, you can’t but help know and understand that the war is real.

The moment we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, give Him and the Holy Spirit the throne in our spirit and heart, we paint a target on our back that Satan and his demonic minions seek out, with possible fatal results. Such knowledge is scary, even horrifying is it not? Do not fear, do not fret, for there is an awesome Truth that goes with it, and that is when Christ died on that Cross to pay for our sins, He rose again three days later. When He did that, HE HAD THE ULTIMATE VICTORY OVER SATAN AND ALL WHO FOLLOW HIM!

Jesus Christ has the ULTIMATE authority over all things of Heaven and Earth – God, Our Heavenly Father, gave Him that authority. That includes Satan and His minions. He had that Authority before He went to the Cross, and was evident in the multitude of times He cast out the demonic from people. He even passed this authority to His disciples and apostles, and ultimately to us – the people that made that conscious choice to accept Him as the Son of God, believe He died for our sins, and accepted His gift of Salvation.

However, Christians are still struggling, facing demonic oppression, obsession, falling for their lies whispered in their ears, deceiving Christians through New Age and Occult doctrines. The Scriptures teach that the war has already been won. The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ has already won the victory for us. We have to wrap our minds and faith around that and never let it be forgotten. The demonic will try to not take it away, but try to make us forget that fact.

Turn to Romans 8 and I want to read these verses to remind ourselves that the victory has already been won in Jesus Christ. This great concluding passage in Romans 8 and when you look at the 37th verse it says: "Nay in all these things we are more than conquerors, through Him (Jesus) that loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come nor height nor depth nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." We are more than conquerors. We are super conquerors through Him. That means we have the victory in Jesus Christ over the principalities and the powers. In your mind connect that with Ephesians 6 where it tells us very specifically that we are wrestling not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers.

Take a look at Revelation 12 and read another verse about this matter of the victory already being won and how we claim that victory in the Lord Jesus Christ. Verse 10 and 11-"And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, now is come salvation and strength and the kingdom of our God and the power of His Christ. For the accuser of our brethren (Satan) is cast down which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony and they loved not their lives unto the death."

Now look up Matthew 12 - they accuse Jesus of casting out demons by Beelzebub, the prince of the demons. Replying to the accusation that he was a demon possessed individual, Jesus responds in verse 24 and 25 - "every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation." Jesus is saying the accusation is illogical. "If satan casts out satan he is divided against himself. How then shall his kingdom stand?" Verse 29 - look at the little parable Jesus gives. "How can one enter into a strong man's house and spoil his goods except he first bind the strong man and then he will spoil his house." If you will just connect this in your mind. The one entering into the house is Jesus.

The strong man's house is the Satan and his kingdom. So, Jesus is saying, “What I'm going to do is I am going to enter the strong man's house. I'm going to invade the kingdom of Satan. I'll bind the strong man, I'll spoil his house.” When did Jesus invade Satan on his own turf and get the victory? Colossians 2:15 - "And having spoiled principalities and powers he made a show of those principalities and powers openly triumphing over them in it." (referring to the cross). When Jesus died on the cross, Jesus Christ entered the strong man's house. Before Jesus went to the cross, Jesus said this is your hour and the power of darkness. The Satan thought he had Jesus. So, when Jesus died on that cross and shed His precious blood, not only did Jesus pay for our sins, but the Bible also says He won the victory over the powers of evil. The victory has already been won. The invasion has already taken place. We are just involved in a few skirmishes along the way now and it won't be long until we will have V Day and the victory will be totally realized. "They overcame him by the blood of the lamb."

So, when we come to Ephesians 6 -- this passage on spiritual warfare, there are 3 pieces in the puzzle that show us how to win the war. First of all you have to analyze the enemy. We've done that in Ephesians 6:10, 11, and 12. Then you have to utilize the weapon. Vs 13, 14 through 17. Analyze your enemy. Learn everything you can about how Satan operates. Daily utilize that army weaponry.

Every day of our life we ought to by faith put on the whole armor of God. Every day we ought to equip ourselves with everything God has provided for us spiritually to do war with the forces of Satan. We analyze our enemy. We utilize our weaponry, we realize our victory. I think the key is in verse 18 - "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit." You know how we get the victory against the spiritual forces that come up against us day by day. The victory is won in prayer. That's where you get the victory.

Prayer is communication. You can't win a battle without communication. Communication is vital to victory, to success. Same thing is true in war. If you can cut off an army's communication system you will cripple that army. The same thing is true in the realm of the Spirit. If Satan can keep us from praying he'll always get the victory. If Satan can get us involved in a lot of other things and get us to neglect prayer then Satan is going to win. Rev Mark and I are involved in a ministry called Spiritual Warriors Network. Within it is our team of prayer warriors. Some of you have committed yourself to be a prayer warrior. The selection of that particular name for the ministry was not accidental. Understand that prayer is the weapon of victory that enables us to win over the principalities and the powers. I think this is why, having gone through all of those pieces of armor, Paul now comes to the climax of the whole matter and shows us that we realize victory over Satan by the ministry of prayer.

Satan Is Still Alive

Those who read my articles know I’m an unapologetic believer in the Holy Scriptures as the inspired word of God. I include this sentence first for those who don’t know where I’m coming from, especially since the article today deals with Satan and one of his great deceptions and all religions as a whole.

This week I’ve been busy with final edits on the third book in my Angel series Angel in the Ice, Book 3. As anyone who writes or explores the supernatural from a Biblical point of view has learned, many obstacles pop up when anyone dares to shed light on the truth about Satan, the fallen angels, or demonic influences on the modern world.

As part of my research for my books, I read what other authors write about the paranormal in the Holy Scriptures. This week my reading includes a book written back in in 1972 (but I’m reading the updated 1977 version) of Hal Lindsey’s (with C. C. Carlson) Satan Is Alive And Well On Planet Earth.

What I find so fascinating about this book, is how the author is shocked at the abundance of those practicing witchcraft and/or the religion of Wicca. Of course, the numbers are much larger today than in the seventies, and with the help of the Harry Potter Series and other movies, TV shows, and books the movements are much more mainstream. There are covens that approach the whole thing more as honoring the earth and then there are those who go all out with spells, books of shadows, and witchcraft.

Even witchcraft admits there is “good” and “evil”.

The funny thing is, while the whole witchcraft movement has grown, all religions, (not just Christian denominations), are being taught in the public school systems and modernism movements, as “mythology”. Just stories, myths. This watering down of all religion is fine with Satan and his forces. He loves it when so many people don’t believe he exists.

If God is just a myth, people lose their will to love or please God.

It makes it easier to justify “I’m basically a good person” so out the window goes any notion of needing a Savior. You no longer need forgiveness.

Believing evil doesn’t exist, makes it easier for people to deceive themselves. There is no longer any need to resist temptation. “Just do what you want as long as it doesn’t hurt others.”

Unfortunately, this kind of thinking devolves into “just do what you want, you deserve it”. Evil destroys. Any temptation (these are just examples as there are too many to list: pornography or gluttony) destroys those who indulge and creates victims. This is exactly where Satan wants you, destroying yourself, your relationships, and creating victims.

Satan is ecstatic that so many humans can no longer recognize evil or how it works. How can you resist what you deny exists?

He’s even happier when people experience evil desires and they realize they have no where to turn for help. You can’t rid yourself of demonic influences if you don’t believe they exist.

You may not believe in Satan, but rest assured, he’s still alive and he believes in you.

Issue 69 – Dirty Deeds, Fake Bishops, & More Secrets Exposed

From fake psychics being exposed as they're breaking the law, and not caring who gets hurt, to a man pretending to be a church official to someone trying to get others in trouble. Yes, folks, just another week in paranormal-land…

Dirty Deeds In The Paranormal

Nothing escapes the Eye on the Paranormal, whether it's activity in the shadows or outright bad behavior. Late last week, I was flooded with emails from folks who got a very peculiar email from Jen Arnold, author of On Sacred Ground a Demon Walks. They asked me if it was for real or are we being scammed? Here is the email:

From: "Jennifer Arnold" [personal email address removed] Date: Apr 18, 2012 9:13 AM Subject: My Experience during my Trip To: I'm in some terrible and horrible situation, My family and I came down here to Manila, Philippines for a short vacation and I was robbed at gun point last night, All cash,including credit card and cell phone was stolen away. We've been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all, Our return flight leaves in few hours time from now and am having problems settling my bills. I was wondering if you can loan me $1,800 to pay up the bills and also take a cab to the airport, But any amount you can afford will be appreciated, I'll refund it to you as soon as I arrive home just need to clear my bills. As soon as I get home I'll refund it immediately. Write me so I can let you know how to send it. Thanks, jennifer

Many asked me to really give it to her. To boil her in oil and put her on the rack but something just didn't seem right. I'll expose fakery when it's called for, but this just didn't seem right.

1. The email it says they went down to Manila for a short vacation. Jen lives in Florida. This would be a long flight. It reads "went down" which means they must have came from up north.

2. She is in such bad shape she had time to send out dozens of emails asking people for a certain amount of money? Unless it just seemed as it was a scam. After firing off a few emails her agent at Irish Eyes Promotions, her agent got back to me and informed me she got one as well. The agent called Jen, who informed her that she was not stranded anyplace. Someone had to have hacked into her email. The FBI was notified, and they have traced it back to an IP address and visited the person. The matter is under investigation, and charges are possible.

When a person has done wrong, I go after them full tilt. But not when the person is being set up. [One of the Eye on the Paranormal's beat reporters responded to the email, offering to help with sending cash, and got no response]. This tells me the person was more interested in stirring up trouble for someone than in collecting money. Once there are more details, they'll be shared.

Fake Bishop On The Loose

Jerry Williams is a paranormal investigator who lives in Ohio. He has an internet radio show, and that's fine. He also claims to be a demonologist… and, well, who isn't one these days? But now, he's decided to call himself Bishop Jerry Williams, and that's not cool at all. Such a title is never given; it's earned by years of study and dedication to a calling from GOD. Bishop isn't a title that is used because one thinks one is entitled to call themselves a bishop. Mr. Williams has even been hounding some major ghost hunting groups to be part of their team.

If Mr. Williams wants to be a real Bishop then he might think of becoming a member of the cloth and earning the right to that title.

Sandra Lynn Sparks Is On The Loose

Sandra Lynn Sparks works for Chip Coffey as a moderator for his website. In the past, she presented herself as a fake moderator for the official Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal Facebook page. In that capacity she used her fake status to direct kids [without permission from their parents] to Chip's website, and ones that she owns and makes money from. The woman has NO degree working with kids and giving advice that might be harmful to the child. The Facebook page was a haven for anyone, as no control was ever put into place to check who was offering to help the kids. There was even a convicted felon who posted requests to "help" kids. Many predators on the page [predators come in many shapes and sizes: money predators, spiritual predators, etc.] offered to work with children, but they have to be younger than 15.

Eventually common sense prevailed and the site once again was taken over by A&E. Sadly, a new page was created, called PSYCHIC KIDS: AFTERWORD.  Sandra Lynn Sparks is back offering advice and services that might be unsound and potentially harmful for emotionally disturbed kids.

The New York Times Interview with the Dalai Lama - Part 2

Continued from Part 1

Q: In Tibet, from the late 1950's until the early 1970's, one of your brothers was involved in leading a guerrilla movement against the Chinese. In fact, the guerrillas were supported by the C.I.A. How did you feel about that?

A: I'm always against violence. But the Tibetan guerrillas were very dedicated people. They were willing to sacrifice their own lives for the Tibetan nation. And they found a way to receive help from the C.I.A. Now, the C.I.A.'s motivation for helping was entirely political. They did not help out of genuine sympathy, not out of support for a just cause. That was not very healthy. Today, the help and support we receive from the United States is truly out of sympathy and human compassion. In spite of their desire for good relations with China, the Congress of the United States at least supports Tibetan human rights. So this is something really precious, genuine.

Q: To change the subject, you have spoken, as few religious leaders have, of the dangers of global overpopulation.

A: Well, the population problem is a serious reality. In India, some people were reluctant to accept birth control because of religious traditions. So I thought, from the Buddhist viewpoint, there is a possibility of flexibility on this problem. I thought it might be good to speak out and eventually create more open space for leaders in other religious traditions to discuss the issue.

Q: How do you feel, then, about Pope John Paul II's continued opposition to birth control?

 A: That's his religious principle. He is acting from a certain principle-- especially when he speaks about the need to respect the rights of fetuses.  Actually, I feel very touched that the Pope has taken a stand on that.

Q: Can you also understand the needs of a woman who might not be able to raise a child?

A: When I was in Lithuania a few years ago, I visited a nursery and I was told, "All these children are unwanted." So I think it is better that that situation be stopped right from the beginning -- birth control. Of course, abortion, from a Buddhist viewpoint, is an act of killing and is negative, generally speaking. But it depends on the circumstances. If the unborn child will be retarded or if the birth will create serious problems for the parent, these are cases where there can be an exception. I think abortion should be approved or disapproved according to each circumstance.

Q: I understand you've experienced a major change in thinking about the role of women in the world.

A: It's not so much a change. I've gained an awareness of the sensitivity of women's issues; even in the 1960's and 1970's, I didn't have much knowledge of this problem. The basic Buddhist stand on the question of equality between the genders is age-old. At the highest tantric levels, at the highest esoteric level, you must respect women: every woman. In Tibetan society, there has been some careless discrimination. Yet there have been exceptional women, high lamas, who are respected throughout Tibet. 

Q: In a recent issue of the Buddhist magazine Tricycle, the actor Spalding Gray asked you about your dreams, and you said you sometimes dreamt of women fighting.

A: Women fighting? No, no. . . .  What I meant was that, in my dreams, sometimes women approach me and I immediately realize, "I'm bhikshu, I'm monk."  So you see, this is sort of sexual. . . .

Q: In your dreams, you realize this and you "fight" the feeling?

A: Yes. Similarly, I have dreams where someone is beating me and I want to respond. Then, immediately I remember, "I am monk and I should not kill."

Q: Do you ever experience rages? Even Jesus had rages.

A: Don't compare me with Jesus. He is a great master, a great master. . ..  But as to your question, when I was younger, I did get angry. In the past 30 years, no. One thing, the hatred, the ill-feeling, that's almost gone.

Q: So what are your weaknesses and faults?

A: Laziness.

Q: It is said that you get up at 4 in the morning. How can you be lazy?

A: It's not that kind of laziness. For instance, sometimes, when I visit some Western countries, I develop an enthusiasm to improve my English. But when I actually make the effort to study, after a few days, my enthusiasm is finished.  [Laughs.] That is laziness. Other weaknesses are, I think, anger and attachments. I'm attached to my watch and my prayer beads. Then, of course, sometimes beautiful women. . . . But then, many monks have the same experience.  Some of it is curiosity: If you use this, what is the feeling? [Points to his groin.] Then, of course, there is the feeling that something sexual must be something very happy, a marvelous experience. When this develops, I always see the negative side. There's an expression from Nagurajuna, one of the Indian masters: "If you itch, it's nice to scratch it. But it's better to have no itch at all."  Similarly with the sexual desire. If it is possible to be without that feeling, there is much peace. [Smiles.] And without sex, there's no worry about abortion, condoms, things like that.

Q: Sir, your laugh is world famous -- what makes you laugh?

A: There is something in my family . . . a tendency to laugh a lot. One brother, Gyalo Thondup, doesn't laugh too much. Another, Lobsang Samten, was very fond of cracking dirty jokes. A third, Taktser Rinpoche, he also laughed a lot. And Tibetans generally are very good-natured. In my childhood, I had a religious assistant who always told me, "If you can really laugh with full abandonment, it's very good for your health."

Q: What do you do for leisure, to relax?

A: I like to let my thoughts come to me each morning before I get up. I meditate for a few hours and that is like recharging. After that, my daily conduct is usually driven by the motivation to help, to create a positive atmosphere for others. I garden . . . gardening is one of my hobbies. Also, reading encyclopedias with pictures. [Laughs.] I am a man of peace, but I am fond of looking at picture books of the Second World War. I own some, which I believe are produced by Time-Life. I've just ordered a new set. Thirty books.

Q: Really? Why does the Reincarnation of Compassion have such a fascination with one of the most terrible events in human history?

A: Perhaps because the stories are so negative and gruesome, they strengthen my belief in nonviolence. [Smiles.] However, I find many of the machines of violence very attractive. Tanks, airplanes, warships, especially aircraft carriers. And the German U-boats, submarines. . . .

Q: I once read that as a little boy in Lhasa, you liked war toys.

A: Yes, very much. I also had an air rifle in Lhasa. And I have one in India.  I often feed small birds, but when they come together, hawks spot them and catch them -- a very bad thing. So in order to protect these small birds, I keep the air rifle.

Q: So it is a Buddhist rifle?

A: [Laughs] A compassionate rifle!

Q: Let me ask you a difficult question in that regard. You are indispensable to your movement. Are you ever afraid you might suffer the same fate as Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr.?

A: The thought sometimes crosses my mind. As far as being "indispensable," people can carry on without me.

Q: Asian scholars say that the Tibetan nation wouldn't have survived after 1959 if you had not been such a skilled political leader. That being the case, aren't you concerned that the Chinese might try to finish off the Tibetan independence movement by killing you?

A: Some Chinese have frankly said to Tibetans: "You only have one person. If we take care of that, the problem is solved."

Q: Have you prepared yourself for the possibility?

A: Not really, although in general, as a Buddhist, my daily meditation involves preparation for death. Death by natural causes, I'm fully prepared for.  If sudden death comes, that is tragic -- from the viewpoint of practitioners.

Q: In September, the Palestinians accepted a compromise for regional autonomy. If the Chinese offered such a deal, would you accept?

A: Actually, for the past 14 years, my basic position has been very similar.  There is one difference: in the Palestinian case, virtually every government viewed the Territories as occupied and showed concern. In the Tibetan case only the U.S. Congress and some legal experts consider Tibet an occupied land with the right of self-determination.

Q: What was your feeling when you watched the recent signing of the Middle East peace agreement?

A: It's a great achievement. This issue is just one year older than the Tibetan issue. Our problem started in 1949, theirs in 1948. In those years, a lot of hatred developed. Imagine: Palestinians were taught to hate from childhood. That was seen as good for the national interest. In fact, it was rather negative; a lot of violence took place. Now, both sides came to an agreement in the spirit of reconciliation, in the spirit of nonviolence. This is wonderful.

Q: Are there any signs that the Chinese might accept a compromise?

A: [Quickly] No.

   Q: You once wrote that the Chinese want to rule the world. Do you still think so?

A: I didn't mean it that way. The remark was related more to the Marxist world intention, rather than Chinese national historical expansionism.

Q: Do you think that still is the case?

A: It's changed, I think. That kind of spirit . . . perhaps in the 1960's, with the Cultural Revolution, it was there. On the Soviet side, Khrushchev realized around 1956 that that kind of goal was not realistic. By the end of the Cultural Revolution, in the 1970's, the Chinese realized that it was out of the question. Now I think the issue is Chinese nationalist historic chauvinism. To them, all other people are barbarians.

Q: Including you?

A: Oh, certainly! Of course! They are a proud nation. With Marxism gone, the strategy is to reach the economic levels of Western countries. They consider themselves a champion of the third world, particularly after the Soviet Union collapsed. They see Russia as having become a part of the West. So what you have is the most populous nation, the worst kind of totalitarian system, the rule of terror -- with nuclear weapons and with an ideology that force is the ultimate source of power. Their economy was poor, but now it is improving -- without changing those other things. Time magazine has called them "the super-power of the next century."

Q: Does that scare you?

A: We already lost our country. But I'm concerned about the world! The world community has the moral responsibility to see democracy in China. Now, how to bring it about? The Chinese intellectuals and the students, they are already a strong political force, and very essential. The world community must give every encouragement to that force. We should not indulge any act which discourages them.

Q: Did you think at the time of the Tiananmen Square uprising that the democracy movement would succeed?

A: Yes. Actually, the events of the 4th of June shocked me. I did not expect them to fire on their own people.

Q: But if the Chinese Communists have been as ruthless against Tibetans as you charge, why not against pro-democracy demonstrators?

A: Because it was their own people! How could they shoot them? During the Cultural Revolution, this was understandable. Tiananmen Square proved that a regime that would have no hesitation to shoot their own people, such a regime. .  . . There should be no doubt about their attitude towards other nationalities.

Q: Given that not-so-optimistic assessment, what possible scenarios for China and Tibet do you see?

A: Basically, the Chinese Communist regime, it's only a matter of time: it will change. Worldwide today, there is a growth of freedom and democracy. And the democratic movement, inside and outside China, is still very active. Once the Chinese are willing to listen to others' problems, the Tibetans will not be against the Chinese nation. My approach is in the spirit of reconciliation. Certainly we can have an agreement.

In the meantime, the international community must support Tibet and put pressure on China. Without that, our own approach, according to the last 14 years of experience, has no hope of response.

Q: In closing, I read somewhere that you are predicting that the 21st century, unlike the 20th, is to be a century of peace and justice. Why?

A: Because I believe that in the 20th century, humanity has learned from many, many experiences. Some positive, and many negative. What misery, what destruction! The greatest number of human beings were killed in the two world wars of this century. But human nature is such that when we face a tremendous critical situation, the human mind can wake up and find some other alternative. That is a human capacity.
