Training the Mind: Verses 5 & 6

When others, out of jealousy
Treat me wrongly with abuse, slander, and scorn,
May I take upon myself the defeat
And offer to others the victory.

The point that is made here is that when others provoke you, perhaps for no reason or unjustly, instead of reacting in a negative way, as a true practitioner of altruism you should be able to be tolerant towards them. You should remain unperturbed by such treatment. In the next verse we learn that not only should we be tolerant of such people, but in fact we should view them as our  spiritual teachers.
It reads:

When someone whom I have helped,
Or in whom I have placed great hopes,
Mistreats me in extremely hurtful ways,
May I regard him still as my precious teacher.

In Shantideva’s Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, there is an extensive discussion of how we can develop this kind of attitude, and how we can actually learn to see those who perpetrate harm on us as objects of spiritual learning. And also, in the third chapter of Chandrakirti’s Entry to the Middle Way, there are profoundly inspiring and effective teachings on the cultivation of patience and tolerance.

Bad Bad Thing Award Goes to Charisma Magazine’s Steve Strang & Paul & Jan Crouch

By Kirby Robinson

Steve Strang, Charisma Magazine
&
Paul and Jan Crouch

This is why cultists and cons continue to thrive…

I came across this post on Charisma Magazine’s website by the publisher and founder: Steve Strang. http://www.charismanews.com/opinion/38695-why-paul-and-jan-crouch-cant-escape-accountability

I had a meeting with Paul and Jan Crouch back in the early 1980s. Back then, I was spiritually searching for a place to land. They were visiting with a well-known pastor who has since passed on. The pair happened to walk by a room in which I was sharing stories of the Four Gospels with others. I was soon to learn that they stood in the hallway and listened to my teachings.

Afterwards, they invited me out to dinner at a nice little steakhouse. To make a long story short, they said that if I molded my message and let them run things, they assured me I could become one of the top preachers in the nation and strike it rich.

Being that I am not nor ever will be a preacher, and that fame has never been my goal, I turned them down and thanked them for the meal.

Steve Strang does a very poor job in conveying the account as he fails to bring up the whole story he references in the post.

“I went on record defending Paul Crouch several years ago when he was accused of homosexuality by a former employee who was also an ex-con. I said Paul has been a longtime Christian leader, so how could we believe the word of an ex-con over Paul’s word that the allegation was absolutely a lie?” Steve Strang

If he had bothered to check, a simple look into the Los Angeles Times database would’ve revealed that Paul/TBN [The Trinity Broadcast Network] paid the man for his silence.

That being said, Paul and Jan are now cult leaders and engage in false teachings.

Here are some videos exposing their dirty work:

Here is where your money is going. Not surprisingly, people at TBN love the good life!

As long as the bad reporting continues within the Christian community these fakers will keep on taking the public’s money.

Bad Bad Thing Award Goes to 2 Thankfully Unknown Preachers

By Kirby Robinson

Yes folks the bad bad thing award can go to anyone. That includes fake psychics, fake TV evangelists, cult leaders—and even people you’ve never heard of.

People Who Should Keep Their Mouth Shut…

From Western Michigan University, we learn that: "WMU students listened to the shouts of Bro Dean, 22, of the Christian non-denominational Church, as he told them that they are going to hell for their sins." Those sins include having ADHD! Read more here: http://www.westernherald.com/news/preacher-creates-uproar-at-wmu-flagpoles/

Pastor Shirley Broussard Says God Allowed the Seal Beach Massacre

"Shirley Broussard is quoted as saying the Almighty could have turned a blind eye to the Salon Meritage horrors due to the city's lax attitude toward the homeless." Full story here:

The above two religious kooks need to find out just who the heck they’re serving…

Reaching the Occultist

By Reverend Mark Hunnemann

Broadly defined, an occultist may be anyone from the person who regularly reads their horoscope to a Satanist—and a million gradations and varieties in-between. It is my passion to not just inform, but to reach those who are mired neck deep in occult-laden blindness. I want to share some principles with you.

Who is an occultist? They are a human being made in God’s image, which means they have a hole in their heart that only Jesus can fill. The only thing that can change a heart nearly destroyed by the occult is a relationship with Jesus (and all that entails)Yes, there is often a drive for power that leads them to seek hidden knowledge and they often have exquisite spiritual experiences…and SOME are cruel (but most are not). Our culture is literally filled with occultists.

Why are we afraid of them? Well, often we are afraid of the unknown. Also, I have found that folks do not want anything to do with occultist for fear of demonic contamination. C’mon…according to the bible, every one of us was once blinded by the demonic, and we bump against them every day. But (and this is crucial) the omnipotent Creator God indwells His children. Often the occultists are afraid of you.

I just finished reading two excellent books: Laura Maxwell’s book “A Spiritual Quest”, and Dancing with the Devil—compiled by Jeff Harshbarger. She was a former Spiritualist and medium, and he a former Satanist…both found redemption in Christ after almost being devoured by powers of darkness—spiritual and psychological.

There are many laws that govern the universe, both physical and spiritual. After dabbling in the occult for years, I found something to be universally true: involvement in witchcraft, Satanism, or any other form of the black arts will put you on a collision course with mental illness…God takes what little a person has, builds on it, and gives hope. Satan, on the other hand, will take what little a person has in life and destroy it. Those of us who have been involved in darkness know this to be very true.( pg 161 DWTD )

A common thread through almost all the nine testimonies in Jeff’s book is the desire to die and commit suicide, and Laura’s mother did commit suicide—though she was a baby Christian, she was thrust back into her demon infested home.  We all have problems, but the occult compounds this by bringing guilt, hopelessness, and despair. This horrible emotional cocktail can cause the visceral fear of dying to be eclipsed by an even deeper pain and fear with living—once that threshold has been crossed, suicide will happen…only a matter of time. I have experienced the agony.

What the occultist practice.   If you are going to minister to people in the occult, it is imperative that you have at least a general understanding of where they’ve been. Never assume that you know what they practice. (DWTD,200) For example, if you encounter someone involved in Wicca, a popular and fast growing form of paganism, and tell them that they worship the devil, then they will likely assume you do not know what you are talking about. Listen, EVER PERSON who is not serving Christ, is serving Satan—but we must meet that person where they are (I Cor. 9)

Many occultists have stopped communicating or dialoguing with well intentioned Christians because these believers said too much too soon. Same principle—people do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care. Learn what they do believe by asking questions—gentle and loving—as well as what distortions of Christianity they have picked up along the way. And you might say, “Well, I do not believe that either..”

How to reach the occultist Suppose you have a work colleague who is a witch and wears a pentagram. Should you first invite them to a bible study, church, confront them about the evil necklace? My suggestion is that you FIRST pray for that person. SECOND..ask God to mirror His love and holiness through you to them. That way they will see the reality in our lives.

It is natural to want to warn them of the darkness, but instead of frightening or offending them with our enthusiasm—model Christ to them and ask the Lord to use you in their lives. Remember, it is primarily the Lord who loves and is pursuing the occultist, and we are a vessel. Come in with your ears and heart open to them…every one needs somebody to listen to them. When they feel they can trust you, then they will open up, and we can share the gospel.

MINISTERING TO THE OCCULTIST  Once we have entered their world, how to minister to them will vary from person to person. But, first and foremost, you need to be there for them. Whatever they are facing, we need to be there and be faithful to support them…all the while reflecting the love and holiness of Jesus (or the Fruit of the Spirit).

Physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are intertwined. Try to enter their world. As much as I attempt to debunk ghosts as demonic deceptions, think of how devastated this knowledge will be to many. As Laura Maxwell poignantly points out, she had an alleged deceased sister stroke her hair night after night for years. They lovingly conversed with what they thought were beloved deceased family. That is the unspeakable cruelty of the demonic—making it psychologically difficult to dis-believe in the notion of ghosts, by intertwining it with experiences of “loved ones’. Initially, this can be traumatizing and confusing. We need to be patient and compassionate with folks who have been burned by horribly real seeming demonic delusions.
They are leaving familiar paths for that which is unfamiliar. Of course they will find release in Jesus alone…but they will need guidance and friendship. Be careful to not overwhelm them with too much information. Get them settled into a daily quiet time. But everything related to the occult (paraphernalia) needs to come out of the house asap—time for new beginning.

As occultists they have been interacting with demonic realm…a former occultist may need deliverance or exorcism. This is where many Christians balk because they fear the power of the demonic. But we are to fear God alone. (Prov. 1:7) 1 John 4:4.. we have no reason to be afraid. And there very well may be the need for the healing of emotional scars. You may need to involve a pastor of good Christian counselor.

The need for harvesters is great…perhaps God is calling you to specifically minster to occultists. In our society, hardly a family is not affected in some fashion—though they might not be aware of it. May God use us to be the answer to the panicked and anguished prayer and cry for help. You see, often the occultist will recognize the emerging face of demonic evil and want out…desperately. Let us daily pray that the Lord will send those people our way, and that we will love them to Christ. Finally, please do not fall for the temptation to water the gospel down. Only the unvarnished truth will set the occultist free!

Issue 107 – Is “Ghost Inside My Child” Filled with Lies? [Part 1]

By Kirby Robinson

I had one of the most unfortunate experiences of my life as I watched the pilot episode of Bio Channel’s Ghost Inside My Child. By the time the final credits rolled, I can admit that I finally found a show worse than Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal.

No, Chip Coffey isn’t affiliated with this show, although he would have enjoyed being a part of this exploitative mess, if only to get a paycheck. As with his former show, on Ghost Inside My Child, the fame hungry parents/grandparents are allowed to hog air time by exploiting kids. The parallels between the two shows include: false claims, deceptive story editing, and the truth of God’s message is left in the ditch.

Also like Psychic Kids, the 1-hour program features three families, each one parading their offspring who have made claims that they’ve been reincarnated and remember details of a past life.

One case featured a boy whose last life took place during WWII where he was a fighter pilot who was shot down over the Pacific. That means the person floated around the spirit realm for over 50 years awaiting a body.

What these types of shows count on is that:

1 People know nothing about these subjects.

2 People are so soggy-brained that what they think is the truth is actually bad new age teachings/false teachings.

3 People don’t even bother to use their intelligence--they buy what they see on a “reality” TV show as being true.

4 Everybody needs to be special and be on TV. They don’t mind seeing a child exploited for fame and profit.

I predicted in an earlier column this is the kind of thing  the show will produce  in the pilot alone  that these so-called reincarnates would have to have some kind of claim to fame. Here, we don’t get tales of a simple farmer in Nebraska who lived from 1908 to 1989.

1 James was fighter pilot who died in battle.

2 Cade was one of the victims in the Twin Towers on 9/11.

3 Carson was a victim in the Oklahoma City bombing.

What’s next? Featured kids will claim:

1 I was Caylee Anthony and yes, Casey did kill me
2 I was James Earl Ray and no, I didn’t shoot Martin Luther King.
3 I was J. Edgar Hoover and no, I didn’t wear a dress.

That is how this show would sell itself. Every week you’ll see stardom-starved families making totally false and outlandish claims. Just like Psychic Kids, this show is filled with fakery. They fail to tell the whole story about the families featured in the show. Either they have an agenda to make money off the claims or there are reasons that are more sinister.

The program is produced by Joke Productions [no this is not a joke]. Here’s a link to their site:

The producers linked to the show are: Suzanne Stratford: http://fox8.com/author/suzannestratford/page/2/

Peter Spoerri:

If you watch the end credits for this piece of exploitive crap, you’ll notice that it was done without any expert input. What they are trying to sell the public isn’t real for the most part. Any aspects that are real aren’t well presented.

Let’s take a look at a few of them:

The show’s title: Ghost Inside My Child. Such a title might be somewhat appropriate for children haunted by evil spirits or demons. But when it comes to a show on the issue of reincarnation, it has no business being used. Ghosts have nothing to do with the process whatsoever.

Those who think that no religion ever existed until the new age came along and distorted the concept are being misled. What many fail to understand is that the Buddhist faith does not teach the standard reincarnation, but what is called rebirth. Here is an article that gives you everything you need to know about the differences: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reincarnation

The false reincarnation that the new age teaches is that you keep coming back as a human being. This is NOT TRUE. The reason why it’s called a precious human rebirth is that one can study the dharma [teachings of Buddha] and attain enlightenment. If they practice another form of Buddhism, they seek enlightenment for themselves as well as for all sentient beings. Buddhists point out you can come back as a hungry ghost, an insect, a cow, or a human being.

I can’t wait for the scene when a child says “Mom, I remember being Lassie and licking my ass and having fun with the French poodle next door.”

If you are a Christian, you don’t believe in either reincarnation or rebirth. Christ never taught on the subject nor can you find it in the Bible. What is frequently misquoted is the Book of John, chapter 3, verse 3: “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

Chip Coffey and his fellow new agers paraphrase that line with something about no one can access the father unless they are born again. Nope, it doesn’t work.

Here is a great post on the entire subject from a Christian perspective:

Next week we really expose some sick lies and deceptions on the show.

Bad Bad Thing Award Goes to Sexually Abusive Reiki Master & Thieving Psychics

By Kirby Robinson

Reiki “Master” sexually abusing several girls and women. Psychics caught stealing thousands of dollars from their clients, all this make you say YOU DID A BAD BAD THING at the top of your voice!

We have to ask--if you’re a psychic, then why didn’t you see this coming?

Ladies, don’t be blinded by a Reiki “Master” he is NOT a master of any kind. He certainly doesn’t  have any spiritual gifts, especially if he says “let’s have sex to clear your chakras.” If you encounter anyone like that, your response should be: “HELL NO!”

The only thing this psychic wanted to clean was $10,000 from a victim’s bank account. Meet Fortuneteller April Stevens of Kenner, Louisiana.

In Orlando, Florida, we have relatives Sharon and Peaches Stevens bilking a 67-year-old woman of “$50,702.94 in cash, gift cards and unspecified merchandise paid to have evil spirits vanquished,” according to the State Attorney's Office.

"Both of my clients are excellent people who offer excellent services," their attorney Helene Raisman said.

BREAKING NEWS!

Starting tomorrow, I’m launching the first in a series of reports on what might be the worst and most exploitative paranormal reality TV program ever! So watch for it and be ready to be shocked.

Training the Mind: Verse 4

When I see beings of unpleasant character
Oppressed by strong negativity and suffering,
May I hold them dear-for they are rare to find-
As if I have discovered a jewel treasure!

Training the Mind: Verse 1
Training the Mind: Verse 2
Training the Mind: Verse 3

This verse refers to the special case of relating to people who are socially marginalized, perhaps because of their behavior, their appearance, their destitution, or on account of some illness. Whoever practices bodhichitta must take special care of these people, as if on meeting them, you have found a real treasure. Instead of feeling repulsed, a true practitioner of these altruistic principles should engage and take on the challenge of relating. In fact, the way we interact with people of this kind could give a great impetus to our spiritual practice.

In this context, I would like to point out the great example set by many Christian brothers and sisters who engage in the humanitarian and caring professions especially directed to marginalized members of society. One such example in our times was the late Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life to caring for the destitute. She exemplified the ideal that is described in this verse.

It is on account of this important point that when I meet members of Buddhist centers in various parts of the world, I often point out to them that it is not sufficient for a Buddhist center simply to have programs of teaching or meditation. There are, of course, very impressive Buddhist centers, and some retreat centers, where the Western monks have been trained so well that they are capable pf playing the clarinet in the traditional Tibetan way! But I also emphasize to them the need to bring the social and caring dimension into their program of activities, so that the principles presented in the Buddhist teachings can make a contribution to society.

I am glad to say that I’ve heard that some Buddhist centers are beginning to apply Buddhist principles socially. For example, I believe that in Australia there are Buddhist centers which are establishing hospices and helping dying people, and caring for patients with Aids. I have also heard of Buddhist centers involved in some form of spiritual education in prisons, where they give talks and offer counselling. I think these are great examples. It is of course deeply unfortunate when such people, particularly prisoners, feel rejected by society. Not only is it deeply painful for them, but also from a broader point of view, it is a loss for society. We are not providing the opportunity for these people to make a constructive social contribution when they actually have the potential to do so. I therefore think it is important for society as a whole not to reject such individuals, but to embrace them and acknowledge the potential contribution they can make. In this way they will feel they have a place in society, and will begin to think that they might perhaps have something to offer.

Next week: Training the Mind: Verses 5 and 6
