Fifty Shades of Mommy Porn and Demonic Sex

By Reverend Mark Hunnemann

What does it mean that the fastest selling paperback in history is a trilogy of soft-porn novels that wallow in sadomasochism? Erika Leonard--aka E.L. James--is British author of The Fifty Shades of Grey trio of novels. This unholy literary trinity is defiling the consciences and imaginations of millions of women, including many professing Christians. So  many young woman are reading Fifty Shades, these books have been dubbed "mommy porn". Very sad...

As with many cultural phenomenon, the popularity of these novels is both symptom and cause of the status of our culture. It is symptom in that, the author expresses the spiritual/moral collapse of Western Civilization (similar to dynamics of the decline of the Roman Empire--moral rot from within). Moral/ethical relativity is at the core of Ms. Leonard's worldview as expressed in these books. On the other hand, its incredible popularity is effecting many millions of women in a deleterious way. This book is not merely being read, it is  being experienced--in a variety of ways, but the minds/imaginations (which is where the spiritual battle normally begins) of its readers are being defiled. That can be a gateway to the demonic.

My purpose is not to write a book review, nor an in-depth discussion of demonic sex, but to think aloud with you as to what is happening in our country. The explosion of interest in the paranormal is not happening in a cultural vacuum, and I am passionate about understanding the dynamics of what is feeding into this continuing fascination with the paranormal.

Two simultaneous trends, both of which are experiencing explosive growth: fascination with all things paranormal, and popular"art"  expressing graphic sex. The common denominator of these two trends is the primacy of experience over reason and God's revealed truth. Whether it be erotic or the spirit realm (or both), lusting for direct experience is what I see as the link between these two phenomena. The desire behind experience is the idolatrous quest for happiness.

It was Francis Schaeffer who commented that personal peace (happiness) and affluence have become the dominant life values of most people. This is tragic in light of the fact that glorifying and loving God is our purpose, and happiness will often (but not always) follow. Certainly joy will...

Another connection we must note is that this mass defilement of minds and imaginations is a cause for the increase of cases of incubii and succubii....demonic sex.

I have no doubt that demonic sex is increasing in frequency.

However, there are many women (and some men) who are ashamed to admit their diabolical sexual encounters to a pastor or priest. And as horrible as it may sound, some folks do not want the encounters to stop, because of how pleasurable it is.They are addicted... Personally, I have spoken to perhaps 3 dozen women and men who were/are in agony over this horrific reality. Make no mistake--people are really being sexually aroused and assaulted by demonic entities. The folks I talked to were mostly wide awake when the episodes take place...and they ranged from exquisite sexual arousal/orgasm to violent demonic rape....ripping,and tearing of genital flesh. Some are being touched and diabolically pleasured while walking down the sidewalk.

If this blog helps one person to commit to living a disciplined, holy life, or encourages them to overcome their fear and seek help, then it will been a "success."

Please keep this in mind as I discuss the sexual component--I have written of how our country has seemed to have reached a critical mass of interest in the paranormal. I THINK this has simultaneously removed (to some degree) God's restraining common grace protection, and unleashed an unprecedented amount of overt demonic activity in the US. Please don't lose track of that as we discuss this other. It has become more dangerous because fascination with the paranormal has opened the floodgates to spiritual darkness/oppression.

The "Twilight" series (which had a major impact on (E.L. James), "Being Human" and scores of other TV shows and books, have replaced the "old bad boy" with a vampiric bad boy. He's a lot badder...This interest in vampirism and/or the pornographic Fifty Shades are a step towards creating an invitation to the demonic, because the daydreaming/lust may include the desire for an illicit supernatural encounter.Combine that with a super-heated paranormal atmosphere (demonized), then we have a potent brew.

Often moving progressively,  it starts with sexually explicit dreams....moves to sleep paralysis episodes....and finally one night they see the footsteps on their bed. and the touching begins. And a wide-awake nightmare ensues...

Now, here is the problem--reading a book like Fifty Shades of Grey primes the woman for adultery/fornication by proxy ( I am not picking on women, because everyone knows that many men have terrible problems with pornography....and this book is being read primarily by women).Their imaginations are being corrupted by the antics of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

Not long into the book, they are going at it, in graphic detail. The plot is not even worth mentioning because it boils down to this sequence, which repeats itself over and over--two pages of various characters interacting, and then 3 pages of wild, S&M sex. Over, and over, and over....Christian (curious choice of name) is a 27-year-old billionaire who makes Brad Pitt look like an ugly nerd. Her constant, breathless descriptions throughout the book of Mr Grey makes any living man/husband/boyfriend look hopelessly inadequate.

The demon cannot read their mind, but it knows what they are reading has put them in a spiritually compromised position. Some are then tempted to lust for a midnight "visitor" .In other words, reading pornographic trash is a door-opener because it can give them the "legal right" to attach and attack. Some readers or viewers of pornography may even yearn aloud, "If only I had..." Any demon within earshot will be eager to surprise them one night with an experience that is other-worldly pleasurable.

I am having trouble knowing which direction to take this (maybe because I am in the midst of the chaos of moving). Let me say two things.

First, please...I beg of you to get the help that you need. You can always contact me and I will find someone to help if you are too far away. Please do not remain silent out of embarrassment. And if addicted to demonic sex--it happens--you must look beyond the pleasure and see that you are being used and destroyed. Demons are incapable of loving humans...they hate you.

Second, as I pondered this issue, I was reminded of the Song of Solomon in the bible. It contains beautiful and sensuous poetry expressing erotic love between a man and a woman in the covenant commitment of marriage. Eros was created by God, as were all the lawful pleasures. The Word of God is not prudish, and a proper appreciation of the attractiveness of the of the opposite sex, of both form and face, is explicitly celebrated in the The Song of Solomon. It is amazing to me that this part of the inspired bible can be so "earthy", but without a hint of the pornographic.

Here are the key themes in that amazing book.

1. God's covenant, which commands sexual purity, provides just the right framework (marriage) within which His people may properly enjoy the gift of sexual intimacy (Gen. 2:23-24) Thus God's people honor Him and commend Him to the world when they demonstrate with their lives that obedience in such matters brings genuine delight.

2. Marriage is a gift of God, and is to be founded on loyalty and commitment which allows delight to flourish. As such, it is a fitting image for God's relationship with His people, in both the OT and the NT.

The fall of mankind damaged every aspect of human lives, and God's work of redemption aims to restore every aspect  to its proper functioning. God's goal is that romantic love, with all its potential pain and degradation, should be an arena of enjoyment for His redeemed people. (ESV Study Bible, pg 1213)  Amen.

Paranormal TV is NOT Real!

"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” Or in this case, so does the public. When it comes to watching ghostly images and recounts of haunting stories on TV, the public is left with the undeniably and irrevocable thoughts of calling it what it is, “full of sh*t”! After all, is it evil to misrepresent the spirit world? I always felt it was.

It never ceases to amaze me what they put on TV and just how absolutely insane they have gotten in trying to wow the audience and yet, never really quite are able to show a REAL HAUNTING STORY. If you are one of the few that think that what you see on TV for reality TV or especially the documentaries is real, you are truly one of the few. Why is that? Is it really because the public doesn't believe? Well, if they don't, it might have something to do with misrepresenting the spirit world in such a disdain, inaccurate and quite obviously ignorant way, it's not surprising the public doesn't just jump on board with thinking everything they say is truth. After all, as I keep telling people, they underestimate the intelligence of their audiences repeatedly. If they think people want to be entertained more then being told the truth, they have already put themselves in a box of their own making and can't see out of it.

As the old time radio show called “The Shadow” had that air of mystery and that edge of relaying a story to keep you on the edge of your seat, today, they have gotten lost in the great affects and just throwing all the stops out to wow people, they actually miss the mark of retelling a ghost story. Like the radio show that was fictitious and not real, our “reality” TV is no longer real either. But, does it really entertain? Does it really? Or are people left with the feeling that it's just not right or hoped it would be better then it was after watching an episode. We all might as well be watching Harry Potter or Charmed on TV for the lack of reality, at least they do not propose to be reality.

Now, before you think me some great cynic that is merely just putting down all the documentaries out there and reality TV with it, I have had the privilege of knowing personally many of those people who have real haunting stories that have been either approached by filming crews or a good many of them have actually been seen on TV. The one thing that all these people have shockingly in common is that their story is NOT COMPLETELY THEIR STORY it is always changed in some manner to suit a make believe audience for ratings that seems at least in my opinion, non existent. I have a good reason to say this. Do people really want to be told something is real and then what they see is not exactly the truth and sometimes portions completely not true to the story? Do they? I have a hard time believing that. I also have a hard time believing that if they do not embellish or change the story, that it will not be watched. Yet, I am left with the feeling that they leave such a huge part of the story out... it's in the mystery and feelings and what happens in between the haunting phenomena that is left as if unknown and even unimportant.

One thing that always sits with me in viewing any of these shows is how it's not represented to show the reality of experiencing this type of phenomena. They can't show it if they have never experienced it and perhaps from the filming crew experience, it's all bull and it doesn't matter about telling the truth, because either the people whose stories they are filming are full of it, or... they have issues... either way, the feeling of telling a story in the manner of which it happened falls short every time. (At least as far as I have seen.) You wonder why those haunting stories seems so scary and over the top, because they are. It is not uncommon for the film crew to hear of some stories and add some of the ghost story to one they are filming to add interest, as well as shorten time lines or exaggerate greatly. It appears at least in some cases, they read the story online or it was previously submitted to them for a show idea by someone hoping to have their story told. Imagine if you will, seeing YOUR story included in another person's story. Oh yes, this happens. Online is just another place to search for ideas after all. Not that I blame these writers at all for doing this. However, plagiarizing is still plagiarizing and credit should still be given to the correct parties. That's just having values and etiquette. I do not much care about the “dog eat dog” world television production is suppose to be. I'm sure I'm not alone in my thinking here. Reflect being a jerk, that is how people perceive you, company or not.

So, can haunting stories to be told accurately? There is much that can't be shown accurately... right? Well, here's the deal, a lot can be. I notice that often they like to make a action packed show... but, it's the calm and then sudden action that have you in the sensation of feeling like you have truly witnessed something so unearthly and magical and yet, so very terrifying, because it goes so far outside what you thought was possible. You don't know what it is, why it's happening or what to expect. THAT is never even attempted in a telling of a story. It's the calm before the storm that is needed. It's the wonder and gaps in between where you do not know if something evil or angelical. It's the mere mystery and yet... the almost sudden and unexpected phenomena that happens in hauntings that truly make the stories different. They miss the magical, mysterious and unknown world that is so very different then the world we are conditioned to believe is.

Stories do not need more happening... they need the stories told in a manner that makes sense and is more true to what it is really like to live through a haunting. One thing about haunting is, the why's are not always answered, nor are the who or what it is. It's common for people to think a haunting is friendly when it may not be or to think it evil when it's not. People make assumptions on dark mist being evil for instance, but, is it? No matter what intention a ghost entity has, not knowing makes it threatening, mysterious and that feeling lingers. Now, they say that they can not show feelings. I beg to differ on that. Not only can they show feelings, they can show a story that will have the audience react. We are conditioned to react to our fellow man and their plights after all. It is much of the reason Ghost Investigators get involved with helping people. It is always a large part of the motivation behind people in this field.

I would like to challenge the TV networks and film crews that make these shows to bring about a truth to those stories and honor not only the people who are telling the stories, but, the spirit world. For how often does the story telling of lies oversee the reality of truth and make myth into reality in the beliefs and hearts of society? It's a dangerous proposition to play at such spiritual truths.

One thing people should be aware of is the “mockumentaries” that are documentaries gone wrong in my opinion. One such show is called “Mermaids” that is suppose to be for entertainment, but, is completely made up. I have heard some people think parts are true. Well, no, it's all completely made up as much as “War of the Worlds” was. The scientist and experts are all actors, the proof fabricated and the filming all done by a professional film crew. It's as fake as “The Blair Witch Project”. It has come to a point in time where telling the truth on supernatural or paranormal events is not needed and lying is acceptable. Or is it?

I have this one last fleeting message... how great would it be to have a film crew brave enough and yet creative enough to try to tell a REAL ghost story and get it right? It might be the best story ever seen. I always think that there is a reason to object to spiritual messages that appear to have gone wrong. It's one of the reasons I do what I do. I do not think I am alone. I am only almost alone in having the guts to just go out in public and blurt out what I think. Nobody ever likes to be lied to or accepts it as OK, even when proposed as truth by a mere television show.

The truth is out there... believe it.

(Note: I did not leave names or examples of whom I am speaking of about what isn't true in TV to protect those people who are under contract, as well as their reputation. However, if you know someone that has been on TV, feel free to ask them for the whole story and what has changed. One part is that often, the haunting continues and is not resolved.)

Tibet's Spiritual Leader Commences Teachings for Taiwanese Devotees

Dharamsala, HP, India, 6 October 2014 (www.thetibetpost.com) - At the request of a group of Taiwanese Buddhist devotees, His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet Monday commenced the first of four days of teachings on 'Nagarjuna's Fundamental Wisdom Treatise of the Middle Way' to an audience from 62 counties at the main temple in Dharamshala, India.

Amid a buoyant atmosphere on the morning of October 6th, the spiritual leader of Tibet" and the Nobel Peace Laureate led the teachings with a brief, yet insightful introduction into Buddhism itself. The main Tibetan temple, which numbered crowds surpassing 5000, was packed with a colourful array of Tibetans wearing traditional attire with all age groups, as well as foreign visitors, Indians and a group devotees of 800 Taiwanese Buddhists.

Welcoming the guests eagerly, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama drew smiles and adoration from the spiritual gathering. Drawing upon His profound knowledge of Buddhist teachings, specially the great Nalanda tradition of India which spread to China in the 7th Century.

"Tibetan Buddhism is the pure Nalanda tradition, generally sub-divided into four principal sects or schools: Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu, and Gelug. There may be minor differences in rituals and the transmission of teachings. However, the root essence of all these sects are one and the same," said His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

"Due to over indulgence in one's own sect and rituals, we tend to forget the common essence of our practice sometimes. As a result, we see huge differences in our practice. Therefore, if we all focus on the Nalanda tradition, which is the root of Tibetan Buddhism, our common goals would be more unified," His Holiness said.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama urged Taiwanese devotees to deepen their understanding of the roots of Buddhism rather than cling on to the branches of Buddhist practices.

"We all are followers of Nagarjuna. We are all one in that sense. Even in the various sects of Tibetan Buddhism, though there may be several minor differences in the branches, the foundation is the same. So, we should emphasise more on the principals to attain a deeper and purer level of understanding."

"We are going to start teaching on the Middle Way treatises. The Middle Way treatises was available in Chinese language even before Buddhism flourished in Tibet. It is a scripture that has been passed on from generations in China. The Chinese are actually senior students and Tibetans are junior students of Nagarjuna. But due to circumstances, today, the junior students are more reliable and better equipped," His Holiness said.

Speaking on the common essence of all the major religions of the world, His Holiness said that consequently, all major religions talk about compassion, tolerance, contentment, and self-discipline.. "However, most of these religions command a strict adherence to their beliefs. In the case of Buddha's teaching, it allow us to form our own opinions based on reason and logic."

The second in the series of four day teachings will continue on October 7th 2014 in the Main Temple; Dharamshala. A live webcast, followed by translations into English, Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian languages available on: http://www.dalailama.com/liveweb

Familiar Spirits and Evil Spirits

Hello my para beauties. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I chose this topic because most people don't know much on it or knew nothing at all. The bible does warn us to beware of the familiar spirit. Many people are dealing with familiar spirits and they have no clue how to properly deal with them. It's very upsetting to all involved. There are simply not many legit demonologists anymore. Meanwhile the poor clients are convinced that it's a passed loved one due to the familiar spirit posing as that person and saying things no one would know.

The Bible is full of information about these medium spirits. This allows us to study their wiles in the Bible and find out how they work. They may appear under different names; but their works, manifestations, and their deceptive ways are found both in the Old and New Testaments. We must, therefore, be alert and be prepared because Scripture warns us that these deceiving spirits and false manifestations will be found among God’s people in the last days. Familiar spirits operate under their master, Satan. They influence people to create hate and hurt. Basically raise hell and torment us relentlessly. They spew lies and make a person believe such horrible things of others and ourselves. To knowingly open oneself to the work of demons is an evil act: "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery." To knowingly open yourself up to these demons and their tasks is considered a sin.

To knowingly open oneself to the work of demons is an evil act: "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in a fire, who practices divination or sorcery." To knowingly open yourself up to these demons and their tasks is considered a sin. They are very evil spirits. They are very convincing to make you believe it's a passed loved one making contact. Test the spirit each time. Ask if he/it believes Jesus Christ is the son of man and does it worship Christ. You'll know real quick then if it's real and not eyes playing tricks on you or a person seeking attention.

The many accounts of evil spirits in Scripture affirm the reality of powerful spiritual forces of wickedness. Evil spirits(also known as demons or devils) are depraved spirits which are familiar with human weaknesses and desires. Some are more vile than others. Spirits speak to all of us to inject ungodly beliefs into us. These are thoughts that steer us away from our identity in Jesus Christ. For some people these supernatural voices are far more destructive and can cause harm to the individual hearing them. For some individuals, hearing these thoughts can be just utter tor,ent trying to convince them to commit suicide or harm others.

Long before the ancient Dead Sea Scrolls people were aware that spirits existed.  They knew spirits could affect people, their health, their success or failure, their family and friends and how they perceived the world around them. Long before the ancient Dead Sea Scrolls people were aware that spirits existed.  They knew spirits could affect people, their health, their success or failure, their family and friends and how they perceived the world around them.

Evil spirits are normally viewed as "influences," and their effectiveness in the lives of people is undetected because they are not seen as real personalities that are totally and unreservedly evil. People discuss the issue of whether or not a Christian can be "possessed" by an evil or unclean spirit; all the while, these ambassadors of Satan are busy doing the thing they do best - deceiving men and women, both unsaved and believer alike.

These vile things are always waiting for a door to open so they may enter your life. Always keep Jesus Christ close to your heart. He loves you so very much and will protect you. Just keep that faith no matter what. Satans time is growing near I feel.

A Fatal Presuppositional Flaw at the Rhine Institute Re Psi

By Reverend Mark Hunnemann

Psychic Phenomena, or Psi, are events that cannot be explained by conventional scientific observation. These are the phenomena that parapsychologists study. Extrasensory perception (ESP) and Psychokinesis (PK) are primary, but there are others. My goal is not to give an exhaustive analysis of the Rhine Institute or of Psi. I simply want to accent that Dr Rhine and his followers failed to distinguish between normal Psi and demonic Psi, a fatal presuppositional flaw.

Everyone reading this has had some occasions when they intuited their loved one was in need. Some of this can be dismissed in that we tend to be always focusing on our loved ones, and often nothing happens...but jump when it does happen. Nevertheless, there is too much anecdotal evidence to dismiss--we have some inexplicable connection to our loved ones when there is a problem, I have experienced this. It is mysterious, but not necessarily demonic. It may be the Holy Spirit prompting us.

The problem arises when we intentionally seek to to contact the dead.

"Unfortunately, Dr. Rhine  dismissed biblical data  in his classification of ESP  and thus missed a vital area of information  and a fundamental fact : psychic phenomenon  and the occult have always been intertwined." Dr.  Walter Martin.

Whenever we intentionally attempt to seek knowledge beyond us, or try to move an object, we have moved into the occult. Martin acknowledged that there was normal ESP but hastened to add that most ESP and all PK was demonic.

If one attempts to seek information re the future or tries  to move an object, it is done in disobedience to God's law...and is occultic in nature. And any observable results are demonic..

Since Rhine and his successors did not make a distinction between normal Psi and demonic Psi, and since many of them do intentionally study ESP and PK, many (if not most) of their findings are fatally flawed. Our presuppositions do matter!

Scammer's Network of Deception 2: Titles are Cloaks of Deception

OK, that's it... I'm finished... I'm done.... I have had it... enough is enough.... and then I see this guy, and you know what? I just can not let it go, I HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING and I have to do something to let folks know!! I have to take a stand when I know few will, because when one person stands against these people, others will feel comfortable to publicly stand against them too, until there is a crowd and a roar in opposition to these scammers, thieves and abusers. I'm speaking of Dr. Reverend Bishop Jerry Williams Demonologist or what ever title he is calling himself in the moment he decides to use his many fantastical and fictitious titles he lavishly bestows upon himself without any credentials to back it up.

First of all, I did a bit of digging and have found that Dr. Jerry Williams is NOT even his name. His name is Gerald Blanchard II, married to the CEO and what ever other title SHE uses Virginia Blanchard. So how well can you trust someone calling themselves Bishop or Dr. using a fake name? How much can you trust those credentials? YOU CAN'T!

You'll notice below that Jerry or Gerald, signed the different documents for Brett Watson, from Australia the self proclaimed demonologist and exorcist. Now, if he did not use legal names in the signing of the documents, how realistic can they possibly be? Because in my world and just about everyone out there, if a legal document or some sort of credential is signed by a fake name, IT'S FAKE. Plain and simple there.

You'll notice that there is a CEO Virginia Blanchard signing these documents. It's easy to have family sign documents that are fake after all. On another paper, it's signed Deacon. Why the inconsistent titles on her and her husband Jerry Williams (aka Gerald Blanchard)?

You'll notice that at one point Jerry signs Reverend and then Bishop. Or how about how the right to do exorcisms is before getting ordained? Now, everyone can do prayers and exorcise demons in certain circumstances because prayer in itself can do a lot. But, that is not always the case and even clergy will have to do more then one ritual to rid demons, whether through oppression or possessed (which is very rare.) However, does the public want people who have fake credentials at a time when they are likely to be fearful in a situation they believe there is more going on? Why fake anything? WHY? It leads me and I am sure a great many people to think that there is a not so good reason to not be honest. Being a liar certainly is not conducive to dealing with spiritual warfare and dealing with demons and really puts those who are dealing with them who trust those professing to know what they are doing and have real credentials at risk. It also makes me feel that these people are the ones that are not likely to believe and in reality are taking advantage of those needing help.

As for the others signing the certification for Brett Watson, well, we found one such person who appears to be a DJ for the Bar that Virginia (Jerry's wife) works at. How convenient that is, and suspicious. It's easy to take a title and just use it... with no right or training or work to have earned it. I call these people “pretenders”. They just assume anything that is convenient for them to do that works into what it is they are trying to get, like your money.

Jerry Williams has a online school teaching demonology and exorcism and sells the certification and ordainment to this. But, should he be? If you have to lie about your own name, how well is that looked upon by society, never mind God and let's face it, it is fraud and may even be criminal with the way he is selling ordinations. The documents are not worth the paper they are printed on.

With the exorbitant price for classes on top of that, well, I am not the only one thinking people are being ripped off here and taken advantage of by a guy pretending to be clergy and a doctor or PHD that just isn't. But, don't take my word for it, ask him yourself for his pictured ID or drivers license and his paper work proving he is who he is. If you are taking classes from this guy or paying for certification or ordinations, you should be sure that what you are paying for is indeed worth your money and means something and you should have every right to ask the teacher for his/her credentials. I'm pretty sure they have no valid ones.

It's a real shame when people take the trust of people looking for help or those wanting to do something meaningful to help others and use it for their own gain with a school like this. Now, the plot thickens, as Brett Watson is now the owner to this online school called crisedu.com. So these two are in it together as partners it appears.

Now, when people trying to be something bigger then life and have a bunch of titles or expertise that seems in consistent to what is possible, you have to question them and ask why they are truly doing what they are. I have no problem with people trying to earn a living, if done so honestly, but, if you have to lie to do it, especially when it comes to pretending to be clergy or dealing with demons, it's plain wrong and just about everyone would see that. It's just not rocket science here.

You want to be a minister, be that, but, don't lie about it. You want to be a doctor, go out and take courses and earn a real PhD that means something, don't just assume a title and think the public will be ok with the lack of education, because, they will not.

It always amazes me... just what brings me back again and again... to have to say something and expose yet another con... another person who reflects badly on the people who are real clergy that deal with the public truly trying to help them in times they are frightened who are afflicted with the demonic. These people need to be sensitive, caring and know what they are doing. I personally would never want one person in my home that was not at the very least, true to themselves and true to who they are to be dealing with anything so evil and would undoubtedly think they would be a weak point in any spiritual warfare issue, even with something of less power. That, is just my own opinion. I have dealt with enough to feel very strongly on this end.

Let's hope at some point... I can truly retire from the fraud exposing one day....

Until then.... see you all next week.

One World, One Vision, One People

New Delhi, India, 22 September 2014 - This morning, His Holiness the Dalai Lama was invited to speak at the Indian Habitat Centre by Rajeev Chandrasekhar MP and the Ashoka University. Mr Chandrasekhar is an independent member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, representing Karnataka and Bangalore. The Ashoka University is a fully residential university whose founders believe that education should be holistic and liberal. In his introduction Mr Chandrasekhar praised His Holiness as someone who espouses peace and co-existence.

“Dear brothers and sisters,” His Holiness began, “that is what we all are, 7 billion human beings, brothers and sisters, each born from a mother and surviving in dependence on each other. In the past people were self-sufficient and able to live in isolated communities, but today we are much more interdependent. Climate change and the functioning of the global economy present challenges that affect us all, which we have to face together.

“Thinking in terms of ‘us’ and ‘them’ is therefore very unhelpful. I consider myself to be just one human being among 7 billion others. If I think of myself as different from others or as something special it creates a barrier between us. We all want to lead happy lives, to gather friends around us and friendship is based on trust, honesty and openness. This is another aspect of the oneness of human beings. If we defeat others, we too are harmed; if others are successful, we too benefit.”

He spoke of how religious traditions outline different approaches to the same goal. Theistic traditions believe in god the creator, while non-theistic traditions, like some of the Samkhyas, Jains and Buddhists believe in self-creation. Although Samkhyas and Jains believe in a self independent of the body and mind, Buddhists say there is no such self. He clarified that this is not to say that self does not exist at all, but that it exists in dependence on other factors.

His Holiness mentioned that while some say the best way to serve god is to serve others, it is also evident that to help others rather than harming them, treating them with love and compassion leads to lasting trust and friendship. Friends attracted to the rich and powerful, however, tend to be only short term friends of wealth and power.

In answering questions from the audience, His Holiness explained that Tibetan Buddhism preserves the traditions of Nalanda University, that the Tibetan language is the most accurate means of expressing that profound knowledge. He mentioned that in terms of the past, the writings of Nalanda masters such as Nagarjuna are what have impressed him most. Closer to the present he takes great inspiration from the example of Mahatma Gandhi, who, despite his sophisticated education, chose to live as simply as he could. Noting that something is lacking in a modern education system oriented towards materialism, His Holiness expressed the belief that this can be countered by introducing a greater sense of inner values, human values that he refers to as secular ethics.

Confirming that warm-heartedness is good for our mental and physical health, His Holiness cited an experiment in which people were physically assessed before undergoing meditation and compassion training. After meditating on compassion for 30 minutes a day over three weeks they were found to have less stress, lower blood pressure and improved interpersonal relations.

Finally, asked about the role of desire, he said:

“Desire is a part of life, for example, right now we all have a desire for lunch. Without natural desire we would die. The problem is when we have too much desire, that’s when we need contentment. But while satisfaction and contentment are appropriate on an individual level, they are not on a national level because nations need to develop. What we also need is self-confidence, because defeatism and low morale are a sure source of failure.”

From the Indian Habitat Centre, His Holiness drove directly to the airport to board a flight that took him home to Dharamsala.
