Skeptical Saturday

We debated about sharing the following blog by Mark Edward, but we found it interesting and the comments section is quite fascinating.

Ghosts are big business and now Chip Coffey is on the road with his own version of a carny side show called “Coffey Talk.” I mentioned this grief vampire before in a past blog (“Chipping Away at the Other Side”, Sept. 12, 2009) when he first came out with his “Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal“ television program, whereby Chipper traveled around the country extolling his virtues to everyone with:
“PSYCHIC KIDS: CHILDREN OF THE PARANORMAL™, profiles children who live with an incredible secret: they have psychic abilities. Feeling scared and isolated, these kids have nowhere to turn…until now. Help is on the way in the form of psychic medium Chip Coffey.”

The Paranormal Christian – Just a Quick Update

By Pastor Michael Frisbee

Things have been crazy around the office and busy with the ministry so I did not have the time to write a full out article today, but I have had something laying on my heart and spirit that I feel I must address, but it will take some thought and mulling over as to how to approach it, and present it, to you the reader.  I hope to present that article next week.

I do want to say this to those that have been criticizing me around the social sphere in regards to my “narrowness” of faith and belief.  My faith and belief does not come from any denomination, church, or other type of “religion”.  It comes directly from the Word of God, the Bible.

For those who would toss out, “Yeah, but which version/translation?” or “But MEN wrote the Bible”, I have this comment; if you believe in God, and that He is Perfect, and the One and True Heavenly Father, you should know that His Words were authored by the Holy Spirit indwelt in the men that wrote the God-inspired Books of the Bible.  As for all the “missing books” and such, there is a reason, had nothing to do with politics and such.  They were determined to NOT be the God inspired, Holy Spirit authored Word of God.  Books like Enoch and some of these others are forgeries, not written by the people named by the Book, and were written by multiple authors over a period of centuries in some cases like Enoch.  Some the books were written by Gnostics, who were the New Agers during the time of the early church and was seeking to confuse and dilute Christ’s ministry and message.

Back to my alleged narrowness and focus.  My faith and belief again, comes straight from the Bible, that chronicle the teachings and gospels of Jesus Christ.  Plain and simple.  I do not allow for many paths to God, because Jesus Himself said that only through Him can one come to His Father, Our Heavenly Father – God.  The path to the True God, the ONLY God, is a narrow and difficult one – He said that as well, and that those that take the wide and easy path are destined to failure and eternal death.

There is only ONE true Authority as well when it comes to the demonic, and that is Jesus Christ.  God placed in Him the authority over all things in Heaven and Earth, and that includes the demonic.  I’ll be touching more deeply on this next week.

I have a narrow focus of my faith and belief in Christ and on Christ, not of my own volition or by some denomination or church, but because Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father MADE it a narrow focus and path.  There is only one way there folks, like it or not.  Don’t take it up with me – get on your knees, start praying for the Holy Spirit to grant you the wisdom and knowledge to discern these facts for yourself, and take it up with Christ Himself.

Regarding The Paranormal Christian show, we will have Thomas Smith, author of the Christian Horror Fiction novel, "Something Stirs" - Kindle.
  "Something Stirs" Paperback

From his book:

Ben Chalmers is a successful novelist. His wife, Rachel, is a fledgling artist with a promising career, and their daughter Stacy is the joy of their life. His novels have made enough money for him to provide a dream home for his family. But there is a force at work in their lives. A dark, chilling, ruthless force that has become part of the very fabric of their new home.

A malevolent entity becomes trapped in the wood and stone of the house and it will do whatever it takes, to find a way to complete its bloody transference to our world.

Local Sheriff, Elizabeth Cantrell, and former pastor-turned-cabinetmaker, Jim Perry are drawn into the family's life as the entity manipulates the house with devastating results. And it won't stop until it gets what it wants. Even if it costs them their faith, their sanity, and their lives.

This book will have you on the edge of your seats folks. Thomas will also be discussing the Christian fiction market, the need for books of this genre, and what lead him to write such a compelling story.

Peter Pops-Off At The Mouth

By Reap Paden

So I've been bragging about my newest BFF Peter Popoff right? I know you have all felt at least a small ping of jealousy as you read about what Peter had done, was doing, and would do for me. One of my less loyal friends (Tim) who saved me from a burning building a couple months ago even told me "Dude I wish there was some way I could be as selfless as Peter Popoff. I'm sorry Reap, I just do the best I can." I looked at him and replied "Yea if all my friends were as devoted as Peter it would be like I was in heaven. You are only human man and I accept you as you are"  Then the nurse had to wheel Tim into his therapy session. It'll be a couple more months before he gets out of the hospital. 3rd degree burns can really screw you up I guess. I only got 2nd degree burns from the fire. The EMT said something must have been shielding me...weird huh? I didn't even know Peter then so it couldn't have been him...

Anyways, I know a friend like Peter is hard if not impossible for most people to find, but lately.......well......this best friend stuff is something Peter Popoff seems to take pretty seriously.

I got another letter from him a couple days ago, this was number 4...or maybe number 5. It's getting hard to keep track.

Peter now refers to me as 'brother' and it kinda creeps me out cause I'm pretty sure he is older than dirt, that would make him close to a century older than my mother.Besides I got my ass kicked a lot of times when I was younger and Peter never had my back once! Once I start looking closer at some of the behaviors Peter Popoff has been demonstrating I start seeing the pieces forming a disturbing puzzle.

Take the ring I received  for example. Peter bought it for me. He expects me to wear it around, put it in an envelope with some of my hard earned cash and then send it back to him! I have been in some dysfunctional relationships in my life but this is bad. Peter hasn't even taken me out to dinner yet. In fact, I have paid for everything up til now and I haven't gotten anything to eat yet. Besides I can't wear that thing, gold looks horrible on me.

The next thing I  get from Peter is another of his letters. This letter, just like the rest, is more of Peter crying and yelling about the devil. He also continues to point out my flaws. 'I lost my job' 'I can't pay my bills' 'I'm a nervous wreck'  none of those things are even true! I can picture Peter telling god all these things to make me look bad. Boy am I glad I don't believe in god or I'd REALLY be pissed!!

Included is some cheesy sticker I'm supposed to put on the bottom of my shoe. There is a packet of what looks like tiny pieces of  charcoal you would use to grill tiny little steaks. Peter says its 'magical' but it didn't even cook the steaks.

Then Peter asks me for more money! The nerve of this guy! At this point I'm still waiting for the debt money to cover all my bills so I can pay god back for giving me money that Peter got for me. I briefly consider asking Peter for a loan so I can pay him to pay god so I can ask god for another loan and then give the money to Peter so he can use it to pay ......some angels... I think.... this is really getting confusing. I take some of the money that was to go to Peter and buy some aspirin, I'm getting a headache.

A few days later....I'm just starting to forget my stalker brother. The whole crappy bar-b-que fiasco is a fading memory when my daughter comes in from checking the mail and says "Here dad" I look at her outstretched hand. She is holding several envelopes, one of them is pretty thick. "This one is pretty heavy" she says as I take the stack of off-white envelopes from her. I look down into the handful of mail and I see Peter has sent me another....something. I open the envelope while trying to remember where I had put those aspirins. Inside I find this...

Peter Popoff keeps sending me gifts...I can't help but think he wants something from me in return....like money

I almost expect a marriage proposal to be included in Peter's 5 page rant but there isn't one. There is a request for money, again. The request comes after instructing me to do several moronic tasks which seem to be another attempt at destroying any dignity I may have left.

    Pour salt on the paper
    Hold ring for 60sec
    Blow salt off paper
Tell Peter what color the ring is
Write down problem(s) you want solved
    Wear ring for 177 days
See life change immeasurably in blink of an eye

Now I'm beginning to wonder if maybe Peter Popoff kinda earned that last name...

The letter goes on (where are those damn aspirin?)

Answer 3 questions, find 5 divine personal priorities, 24 hours later receive first of  7 life-changing miracles. Now my head is spinning. How the hell am I supposed too remember all this? I'm gonna have to buy some kind of date-planner to write all this down or I may miss a life-changing miracle and then I'll be totally screwed. You don't see many (if any) miracles these days. If Peter somehow got god to do some miracles for me I gotta make sure I see them or god will probably think I am ignoring him. I really don't want to burn in hell for all eternity, that's not on my 'to-do' list.

I keep reading only to find out Satan has been stealing from me! I wondered where all the forks had gone! My silverware drawer used to have a bunch of forks in it but the other day I went to get one and there were 2-3  to be found. That son of a bitch Satan must have took the rest of them. He is even worse than the bible says. Now my discomfort about Peter's behaviors is gone, I need Peter to help me or pretty soon I won't have and spoons to eat with either.

Ok Peter now tells me he has had a vision. I have to follow his directions to get tangible and irrefutable proof of my bank account being stocked with 'fabulous divine transfers of SUPERABUNDANT BLESSINGS' Who cares if Satan forked himself with my stuff? I'll just buy new forks myself!

After I do all this crazy stuff Peter asks then I will be set-up. I really don't want too wear that stupid, cheap ring for 177 days but what choice do I have? All that is left is to "Release the power of seed faith" in order to do that .....I ......need........to......SEND A CHECK TO GOD FOR $27.00 ?!!

Not only that I'm supposed to hold up the check and say GOD I HONOR YOU AND  YOUR WORK, AND I SOW THIS $27.00 FAITH SEED FOR A GREAT HARVEST I TAKE WHAT I HAVE AND GIVE IT TO YOU, BECAUSE WITHOUT YOU I WOULD HAVE NOTHING....I SOW THIS FAITH SEED OF $27.00 IN JESUS' NAME I ACCEPT YOU NOW AS MY TOTAL SOURCE OF SUPPLY! AMEN"

Screw that. I have no money because I gave it all to Peter already, if he is so wonderful at seeing into the future and having visions all the damn time, and talking to god he damn well should know that. Come to think of it I don't think Peter Popoff is talking to god . If there was a god wouldn't he/she/it/they already know I'm broke?? And if there was a god wouldn't it have better things to do than play circle-jerk with $27.00?

The rest of Peter's letter is just more of his blabbering on about how I must do stupid human tricks in order for him to help me.I've come to the conclusion Peter is after my hard earned cash. It's almost as if I've had a vision. I'll keep you posted, I just got another letter in the mail....

Issue 68 –The Bible & Psychics – Part 1

Issue 68 –The Bible & Psychics – Part 1

By Kirby Robinson

My eyes aren't giving me issues this week, so we'll start taking a look at the Bible and what it says about psychics, and the secrets that psychics and new agers would prefer no one knows.

THE HIVE MAKES AN OFFER THAT PRS/"PARANORMAL STATE" CAST IGNORE

Last week I had the great pleasure of being on THE HIVE on PARA-X RADIO. Neither the supporters of Paranormal State, nor my haters, failed to call in and challenge any of my facts. Erick, the host, has offered his show to be a platform for such an event. If they have nothing to hide they should take him up on his offer. But I'm not holding my breath.

LOOKING FOR NEW BLOGGERS

EYE ON THE PARANORMAL has some spots open for new bloggers to post once a week or twice a month. You can have a viewpoint that differs from everyone [even me] who posts here. You can cover any paranormal/theological topic you'd like and can share links to events, books, seminars, etc.

THE BIBLE & PSYCHICS

We start at the beginning in the time prior to time as GOD begins to unfold creation of this world. In the first Chapter of GENESIS we see that He builds a world that is in balance and harmony, a system that provides for every need of man. There is an abundance of food and water. Every need was taken care of; there was no need to ask for anything. There was nothing to worry about. There was no illness, no old age, and no death. All existed in a state of harmonic peace. Nothing compelled man to seek answers or feel a need to make offerings to get his needs taken care of. But this all changes in chapter 3.

In chapter 3 evil tempts Eve to eat the forbidden fruit telling her that once she does she will be like a god. [One of the primary teachings of the New Age is that you don't need a god because you are already a god!]. Eve eats the forbidden fruit, her eyes open and then she convinces Adam to eat it. Now his eyes are open as well. They realize they are naked and feel ashamed and cover themselves.

The once-balanced world has become unbalanced now that negative emotions begin to flow. Most importantly, Adam and Eve become like gods, not like GOD. Evil plants the idea in the minds of men that other gods exist [note he did not say you will be like GOD]. The New Agers and evil [the unholy trinity] can't wield power as they do if man kept thinking there is the one most supreme GOD.

What follows is man/woman learning they must suffer. They must work for everything, as nothing was promised anymore. They would doubt when they would eat, drink, or be able to find shelter. Now there would be pain, old age and death.

We have the story of Cain and Abel and the first murder in the history of the world as we know it. The blood spilled onto the earth is followed by the first curse. [This curse would follow Cain the rest of his life and his generations to come. It was so strong it followed Cain when dies to the afterlife].

Out of the bloodline of Cain comes Enoch a man so in love with God and God so loved him that they walked together. In the end he did not die but walked with God and was never seen again --the one and only person to never die. [To me this means he has to play some role in the end times].

We come to chapter 6 which I have written about in previous blogs. There is great debate on who the SON OF GOD was. This is a good stopping point so we can reflect on what has taken place so far.

We once had a world perfect in every way one can think possible; a world of balance. But through sin [the unholy trinity], the world went from one that every need would be fulfilled; a world of balance, to imbalance: one of doubt, pain, and separation from God.

Man then had to seek answers to have his doubts wiped away and worries soothed. Who can give that? Those who claim to have a gift that few have. Ones who claim to have secret knowledge that few have. Lesser gods, or demons posing as gods who will give you what you seek … but at a price.

Next week we move forward in the study of GOD'S words and psychics.

New York Times Interview with the Dalai Lama - Part 1

The last place one expects to find His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, the exiled secular and religious leader of the Tibetan people, the winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, the world's leading exponent of nonviolent political change, is at a glitzy Tucson, Ariz., golfing resort called the Sheraton El Conquistador. Yet there he was on a recent autumn morning, dressed in his traditional maroon robes, surrounded by Buddhist monks and non-Buddhist bodyguards, astonishing tourists as he rushed past the snack bar.

The Dalai Lama had come to this unlikely corner of the world to give a series of interpretive readings from "A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life" by Shantideva, an eighth-century Buddhist saint. For five full days, 1,500 attendees risked bad backs and cramped hands to sit for hours taking notes on the nature of patience. For them, participants in the expanding Buddhist movement in the Western world, this was a rare opportunity to study with the head of the faith -- the equivalent of taking Bible classes from the Pope.  Moreover, many of the aspirants were more secular types, veterans of the 1960's who'd come to regard the Dalai Lama as the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Mahatma Gandhi of this political moment. It is a forum the Dalai Lama clearly enjoys, a needed break from routine as head of the Tibetan government-in-exile in India. "I am a simple Buddhist monk -- no more, no less," he often says of himself. At the teachings, he gets to be that.

Yet his life has been anything but simple. Born in 1935 to a peasant family in northeast Tibet, he was, at the age of 2, identified after the death of the 13th Dalai Lama as the 14th reincarnation of the Buddha of Compassion. That recognition brought a new name; Lhamo Thondup now became Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso (Holy Lord, Gentle Glory, Eloquent, Compassionate, Learned Defender of the Faith, Ocean of Wisdom). Taken to Lhasa to be educated, he grew up in a 1,000-room palace, surrounded by doting monks who tutored him in subjects like philosophy, medicine and metaphysics and gave him a childhood of pure magic.

The magic ended in 1950 when the 15-year-old Dalai Lama was called upon to assume full powers as head of state. This, at the very moment the People's Liberation Army of China was invading Tibet. For the next nine years, the young ruler attempted to negotiate with Mao Zedong and Chou En-lai, who were intent on absorbing Tibet into China. Then, in 1959, after China brutally "quelled" a Tibetan civilian uprising against Chinese rule, the Dalai Lama fled to India; some 100,000 Tibetans have since followed him across the Himalayas.

In India, he was permitted to set up a government-in-exile in a small village, Dharamsala, a long day's drive from New Delhi. "His Holiness reconstructed a viable Tibetan community in India, preserving the culture of Tibet," says his close friend Robert Thurman, professor of Indo-Tibetan studies at Columbia University. "He held the Tibetan people together in exile and gave them hope during the very severe, even genocidal oppression in their homeland.  He's also the first leader of Tibet to become a world leader, even without a political base -- just on his moral force."

In Tucson, a day after his teachings were completed, the Dalai Lama met in his suite with the interviewer. As would be expected from someone who has been worshiped as a demigod since age 2, he greets strangers with a mask of pleasant formality, which soon melts as he becomes engaged in ideas and conversation. An hour and a half becomes three; formality turns to laughter. One senses he's a little bored by the adulation that is his daily fare. The most striking thing about the Dalai Lama is his capacity for joy -- how widely he smiles, how amused he is by his own contradictions, his own human foibles. The journalist William Shirer once said of his interviews with Gandhi in the 1930's, "You felt you were the only person in the room, that he had all the time in the world for you." This is true of Tenzin Gyatso also.

Q: Your Holiness, you seem such a happy person. Have there been moments in your life when your faith in human goodness was tested?

   The Dalai Lama: No.

Q:You've never felt in danger of becoming cynical?

A: No. Of course, when I say that human nature is gentleness, it is not 100 percent so. Every human being has that nature, but there are many people acting against their nature, being false. Certainly there have been sad moments for me.  The Chinese suppressions in Lhasa in 1987, 1988, now that was sad. A great many people were killed. I am sometimes sad when I hear the personal stories of Tibetan refugees who have been tortured or beaten. Some irritation, some anger comes. But it never lasts long. I always try to think at a deeper level, to find ways to console.

Q: I understand that you were very angry during the 1990 gulf war, as angry as you've ever been.

A: Angry? No. But one thing, when people started blaming Saddam Hussein, then my heart went out to him.

   Q: To Saddam Hussein?

A: Yes. Because this blaming everything on him -- it's unfair. He may be a bad man, but without his army, he cannot act as aggressively as he does. And his army, without weapons, cannot do anything. And these weapons were not produced in Iraq itself. Who supplied them? Western nations! So one day something happened and they blamed everything on him -- without acknowledging their own contributions. That's wrong. The gulf crisis also clearly demonstrated the serious implications of the arms trade. War -- without an army, killing as few people as possible -- is acceptable. But the suffering of large numbers of people due to a military mission, that is sad.

Q: Did you say that killing sometimes is acceptable?

A: Comparatively. In human society, some people do get killed, for a variety of reasons. However, when you have an established army, and countries with those armies go to war, the casualties are immense. It's not one or two casualties, it's thousands. And with nuclear weapons, it's millions, really millions. For that reason, the arms trade is really irresponsible. Irresponsible! Global demilitarization is essential.

HEADLINE Monday – April 16, 2012

By Kirby Robinson

In case you missed these paranormal headlines we want to give you a chance to catch up on them.

Wonder which para-reality show will get there first?

This is such an old scam run by fake psychics. If you go see one and once you pay them walk right out the door if they ask for more money. And contact the police.

Guess if you milk the public out of 40 million dollars you can afford to hire the best lawyers in town.

It seems odd how everything came together to sink a ship that could not be sunk:

Not only in America, but the rest of the world the whole exorcism thing is getting out of hand.

DON’T LOOK AT ME -- I DIDN’T WRITE IT

By Kirby Robinson

It came to my attention last night that an eBook was published on Amazon and posted [at least parts of it] on a website. This book concerns subjects that in the past I have been very vocal about. But I didn't write the book.

Let me make some points on the matter:

1 I did talk to someone about the subject of the book.

2 I was sent a PDF file, but what I was shown was not the one published.

3 I never gave permission for the extensive excerpts taken from my published work nor for reprinting of blogs from eye on the Paranormal and Shedding Some Light.

4 The person the book is about is a done subject to me--at least when it comes to this blog.

5 I am done with this matter as I'm now focusing on the subjects of cults and lies of the new age and how both are impacting the paranormal field. And I'll focus on cults within the Christian community.

So whoever published that book--you should be willing to take the heat for it.

BLESSINGS,
Kirby
